(AMEX:MSN - News) announced today a new North American licensing partnership with Fun Electronics, Inc., a worldwide manufacturer and distributer of affordable consumer electronics. In furtherance of Emerson's strategy to leverage its portfolio of well known consumer brands to generate additional revenue streams through strategic licensing agreements, Emerson has entered into an exclusive licensing agreement with Fun Electronics for certain consumer product categories in the United States and Canada. The licensing agreement with Fun Electronics has an initial three year term and may be renewed for successive three year periods. Akai Liquidator to Receive Payment in Settlement With Grande

Oct. 5 ([urlBloomberg]http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=20601080&sid=aWP18uiUC6dQ[/url]) -- Akai Holdings Ltd.’s liquidator reached a settlement with Grande Holdings Ltd. in the effort to recover creditors’ money lost in Hong Kong’s biggest corporate collapse.

Grande and Chairman Cristopher Ho will make a “substantial payment” to Akai creditors, according to a statement released today by liquidator Borrelli Walsh Ltd. in Hong Kong.

Grande was accused of siphoning off assets from Akai before the consumer electronics and investment company went bankrupt in 2000, owing creditors about $1.1 billion. Grande admits no liability or wrongdoing under the agreement, the liquidator’s statement said. Ho couldn’t be reached for comment.

“This settlement involves a substantial payment to Akai and is another significant milestone in Akai’s winding-up,” said Cosimo Borrelli, managing director at Borrelli Walsh. “The terms of the settlement are confidential.”

Trading in electronic goods company Grande Holding’s shares was suspended in Hong Kong today pending the release of the statement on the agreement. The stock has dropped 40 percent this year, compared with a 42 percent gain for the benchmark Hang Seng Index.

Ernst & Young Hong Kong, sued for negligence for its audits of Akai between 1997 and 1999, last month settled a negligence lawsuit and agreed to pay a “substantial” amount to the liquidators.

Police Raid

Ernst & Young’s offices in Hong Kong were raided by police last month and a 41-year-old man was put on police bail as part of an investigation into alleged forgery.

The Hong Kong affiliate of Ernst & Young LLP on Sept. 23 suspended one of its partners, Edmund Dang, after an internal investigation into its role at Akai. The company has been accused of failing to spot fraud at Akai.

The settlement involving Grande was announced at a brief High Court Hearing in Hong Kong today. “I think the resolution of this unfortunate disagreement is entirely admirable,” Judge William Stone said.

Akai at its peak employed 100,000 workers and had annual sales of HK$40 billion ($5.2 billion) with brands including Singer Sewing Machine Co. of the U.S. Its Shanghai-born, Canadian-educated owner James Ting was jailed for six years for false accounting in 2005 and freed the following year because of errors in the prosecution’s case.

Ting was accused by Borrelli Walsh’s lawyer Leslie Kosmin of being a “fraudster within Akai who brought down the company and whose clear and obvious fraud” Ernst & Young failed to detect, according to court documents.

Borrelli Walsh also accused Grande Holdings Ltd. Chairman Ho, a former Ernst & Young partner, of stripping Akai’s assets and falsifying certain documents.

Other new executives include Lane's son Jonathan Lane, the chairman of Emerson and CEO of sister company Electrosound, and Rich Rahmlow, the executive vice president. Jeff Colasante is the company's vice president of sales, while Jim ha is the director of overseas operations.

The company is known for producing "fun and functional" gadgets, such as a recently announced line of accessories based on the M&Ms candy characters.

Taipei Neihu MRT line to open on June 27 or 28

TAIPEI, Taiwan -- The Neihu line of the Taipei mass rapid transit system (MRT) is slated to run on either June 27 or June 28, local media reported.

The Taipei city government plans to announce the official opening date of the Neihu line after a council meeting hosted by Mayor Hau Lung-bin, according to reports.

The potential opening dates fall on a weekend, which was done for the purpose of reducing the MRT traffic during work and rush hours.

After its inauguration, the Taipei MRT system would provide a more convenient and efficient transport network in the greater Taipei area, connecting the twelve administrative districts in the city.

It will take only 16 minutes from Miramar Entertainment Park, a major stop on Neihu line, to Zhongxiao Fuxing station, one of the biggest transfer stations in the system. It will only take 21 minutes to travel from the Miramar stop to Taipei Main station.

The Neihu line, an extension of the Muzha line, is a medium capacity system and the total service run is 14.8 kilometers. It has a total of 13 stops, which include the two underground stations of Sungshan Airport and Dazhi respectfully, as well as eleven elevated stations.

Sonshan Airport station will also be the first in the Taipei MRT system that connects to an airport. Going from Sonshan Airport station to the Taipei Nangang Exhibition Center requires only 27 minutes, which greatly slashes the transportation time from Neihu to the downtown areas.
