:: Zukunftsmarkt Meerwasserentsalzung
+ 28.09.2007 + Die Wasserversorgung ist eines der Kernthemen des 21. Jahrhunderts. :look:

Befesa and Qualitas integrate their aluminum waste recycling businesses :look:

Madrid, October 31, 2007. - Befesa and funds managed by Qualitas Equity Partners (“Qualitas”) have today signed an agreement to integrate their aluminum waste recycling activities into a single joint company.

The shareholding of this new company will be sixty percent Befesa, who will provide its aluminum waste recycling business companies, and thirty-seven percent of funds managed by Qualitas, who will provide the recently acquired company Aluminio Catalán (Alcasa). The remaining three percent will be held by senior management. The transaction is subject to granting of the corresponding authorization by the Competition Authorities.

Befesa's aluminum business unit billed 228.4 million euro in 2006. It has a 95,000 ton aluminum alloy production capacity and production facilities in Valladolid and Biscay, plus two salt slag recycling facilities in Spain and the United Kingdom with overall treatment capacity of 200,000 tons.

On the other hand, Qualitas will contribute Alcasa, a company that billed 117 million euro in 2006 and which has a 55,000 ton capacity aluminum alloy treatment plant in Barcelona. Moreover, Alcasa owns the company Trinacria, with a plant in Krakow (Poland) that is expected to attain 20,000 ton treatment capacity by 2008.

The resulting company, whose billing will be around the 350 million euro mark, will rank third in the European aluminum waste recycling market and will attain the critical mass required to provide an integral service for its customers throughout Europe and to continue to develop its sustained growth plan.

According to the chairman of Befesa, Javier Molina, "this integration will allow Befesa to consolidate its position as leader in Europe in industrial waste recycling and, at the same time, allows us to get a foot in the door to the promising waste treatment market of Eastern Europe."

According to Eric Halverson, a Partner of Qualitas, "the integration will provide us with the opportunity of participating in a larger-size driving company and, therefore, with greater capacity to grow and serve our customers at Pan-European scale."

Befesa, Abengoa’s environmental services subsidiary, focuses on providing environmental services for the industrial sector and on constructing environmental infrastructures. It is a listed company that closed the 2006 financial year with treasury stock of more than 813 million euro (www.befesa.es).

Qualitas Equity Partners is a venture capital management company whose investment activity focuses on transactions to buy-out companies with sales ranging between 20 and 200 million euro. In the past year, Qualitas has completed several other investments in sustainable sectors: the acquisition of Garnica Plywood Group and several companies in the solar energy sector. Furthermore, its investment portfolio includes companies such as Azuvi, leader in the ceramics sector, Bellsollá, one of the main companies in the frozen bread dough sector, and Forte, a "build up" operation in the prefabricated concrete sector.

Befesa’s earnings after tax increase 114.5 percent in the first nine months of the year

Barakaldo, November 14, 2007. – Befesa’s results at the close of the third quarter have experienced notable growth compared to the same period last year. Sales have increased 49.3 percent and earnings after tax by 114.5 percent. During this period, has been achieved the change of name of the f the companies from the BUS AB Group adopting the Befesa name, fact that ends the integration process of this group acquired at the end of 2006. Furthermore, Befesa has signed an agreement with Qualitas Equity Partners to integrate its aluminum waste recycling activities into a joint company. The transaction is subject to the corresponding authorization from the Competition authorities.

Befesa’s consolidated sales at close of the third quarter of 2007 have reached 543.9 million euro, a 49.3 percent increase on the previous year’s figure.

The operating result (EBITDA) reached 76.4 million euro, a 135.8 percent increase on the 32.4 million euro the previous year.

The result after tax attributable to the dominant company has been 25.1 million euro, a 114.5 percent increase on the 11.7 million euro the previous year.

The evolution by Business Unit at the close of the third quarter is as follows:

• Aluminum Waste Recycling. Accumulated sales during the year were 167.7 million euro as against 170.3 million euro the previous year. This variation is due, mainly, to the reduction in price of aluminum. To date, 213,000 tons of aluminum wastes have been treated, a 1.4 percent increase.
• Steel and Galvanization Waste Recycling. Sales to the end of the third quarter were 191.4 million euro, as against 37.8 million euro for the same period last year. If the 131.7 million euro contribution to sales by BUS is not taken into account the increase is 58 percent, which is mainly fruit of the increase in production capacity as a result of the construction and installation of a new furnace at the Asua-Erandio plant (Biscay), which came into operation in September 2006.
• Industrial Waste Management. This Business Unit has achieved 93.1 million euro sales as against 82.2 million euro the previous year, which represents a 13.2 percent increase.
• Water. The accumulated sales figure of this Business Unit to close of the third quarter is 91.7 million euro, a 23.8 percent increase on the 74.1 million euro the previous year. This is a consequence of the execution of desalination contracts abroad.

The start up of the new furnace at Befesa Valera’s plant, located in Gravelines (northern France), was a significant event in this quarter. The investment in this project has been 18 million euro and it has allowed exploitation of synergies with another furnace that already existed at the plant. The two furnaces, together with another similar furnace Befesa has at its plant in Sweden, are capable of treating 185,000 tons of stainless steel powder per year.

In addition, Befesa has signed an agreement to integrate its aluminum business with Qualitas who will contribute the recently acquired company Aluminio Catalan (Alcasa), which will result in a company with annual billing around the 350 million euro mark, allowing it to rank third in the European aluminum waste recycling market.

According to Befesa’s chairman, Javier Molina, "The evolution of Befesa’s results has been excellent, fruit of the steel and galvanization waste recycling business and the worthy performance of all our other activities. The integration with Qualitas (Alcasa), once authorized by the competition authorities, will allow us to consolidate our position as a leading industrial waste recycling company in Europe."

The activity of Befesa, Abengoa’s environmental services subsidiary, focuses on providing environmental services to industry and the construction of environmental infrastructures. It is a listed company and closed the 2006 financial year with treasury stock of more than 813 million euro. (www.befesa.es).

Zeroemissions gets contract for a CDM project in India

Seville, December 17, 2007.- Zeroemissions, the Abengoa’s company which provides global solutions for Climate Change, has announced today the signing of a contract with Chennai Water Desalination Limited to conduct a CDM project in a Desalination Plant in the Indian city of Chennai (formerly Madras).

A CDM project or Clean development Mechanism has as result a reduction in the green house gases and it is consider as a mechanism to be used for the accomplishment of the Kyoto Protocol and the Climate Change.

According to this contract, Zeroemissions will go through the whole process of registration as a CDM project at United Nations and the subsequent marketing of emission reductions generated by a project that will improve energy efficiency at the desalination plant in Chennai, by introducing frequency converters that regulates the functioning of water pumps, adjusting to the needs of each moment and therefore consuming less energy. This will mean a further reduction in CO2 emissions to the atmosphere of 130,000 tons in 10 years.

This reduction in emissions will be certified by United Nations and may be used by countries committed to reduce greenhouse gases emissions set in the Kyoto Protocol. Income derived from the marketing implies further optimization in the financing of this project.

The desalination plant in Chennai, currently under construction, was awarded in 2005 to Chennai Water Desalination Limited, a consortium formed by Befesa and a local construction company, IVRCL infrastructures and Projects.

This will ensure the supply of water to the whole town, which until now it depended on weather conditions and now as well, it contributes to the reduction of greenhouse gases with the introduction of this energy recovery technology, in which Befesa is a world leader.

According to Alfonso Gonzalez, Zeroemissions president and president of Abeinsa, Abengoa's engineering and construction industry business group- "This contract is of great strategic importance to us because it implies that Zeroemissions will be introduced in the Indian market, which along with the Chinese market, it represents areas with the greatest potential in CDM projects consulting."

Zeroemissions is Abengoa’s company which provides global solutions for Climate Change through the promotion, development, and trade of carbon credits (CDM/JI), carbon offset services and innovation in technologies for greenhouse gas reduction.
