Newmont Cuts Guidance on Boddington Mine -- Commodity Comment

Newmont Corp. cut its production guidance by almost 17% for the Boddington gold mine in Western Australia after commissioning what it said was the industry's first autonomous haulage system fleet.
On Boddington:
"Newmont has invested $150 million in Boddington's [autonomous haulage system] project which will create a safer, more efficient mine," the Denver-based miner said.
"Following completion of the industry's fastest AHS commissioning program, Boddington continues to ramp up the truck fleet to full productivity as the site fine tunes the technology for operation in a deep open pit mine."
"During commissioning the project faced several challenges, including unusually severe weather and heavy rainfall, shovel reliability and operational delays associated with managing bench hygiene as mining moves into deeper sections of the pit."
As a result of the challenges, Boddington delivered lower ex-pit tons than expected, the company said, with full-year 2021 gold production likely to be 140,000 ounces below original guidance estimates of 830,000 ounces.
Boddington is Western Australia's largest gold producer, delivering 670,000 ounces of the precious metal and 56 million pounds of copper in 2020, Newmont said.

Habe jetzt mal die relativ günstigen Kurse zum Einstieg genutzt. Langfristig erwarte ich bei den oft erwähnten Inflationserwartungen steigende Kurse (da macht es auch nichts, dass da weniger gefördert wird). Als kleines Zubrot gibt es dann Ende Sept 21 eine Quartalsdividende in Höhe von 0,55$. 🤠

•Both Newmont? and Barrick missed consensus revenue estimates (due to lower than expected production) but exceeded EPS estimates by approximately ??% (due to higher than expected margins from stronger gold prices).
•Both companies have maintained their 2021 production and cost guidance. However, we are lowering our 2021 production estimates, as Q2 production was lower than expected. As a result, we believe both companies will fall short of their production guidance this year.
•We believe the recent drop in gold prices offers attractive entry levels. We expect prices to strengthen in H2-2021 as inflation kicks in from a global economic recovery. The U.S. Fed has shown no intent to raise rates this year to curb inflation.
