PUNTERS' interest in the gold juniors has naturally enough picked up in recent days in response to gold's flirtation with $US1000 an ounce.
Assuming the Aussie dollar does not take off and erode the benefits of gold's recent advances, local producers of the yellow stuff will have nothing to complain about.
Still, if the temptation is there to park some funds in the junior stocks, it is best to try to match it with some locked-in growth.
The Coolgardie gold producer, Focus Minerals (ASX:FML), is one of that hardy breed in Western Australia's eastern goldfields that can lay claim to some solid growth ahead of it, whether gold breaks through $US1000 an ounce or not.
According to Garimpeiro's calendar, Focus must be about due to get the approvals it needs to start a decline to access a relatively high-grade 350,000-ounce gold resource at the previously worked mining operation quaintly known as The Mount, about 80 kilometres south-east of Coolgardie.
The Mount and a host of other deposits owned in the region are being banked on to underpin an increase in the group's gold production from 41,000 ounces last financial year to 100,000 from 2011. That is from a resource base in the Coolgardie region of 1.8 million ounces from multiple deposits, with expectations of more to come.
Underpinning the charge to the 100,000 ounce-a-year rate is the group's Three Mile Hill processing plant. The plant is being refurbished and is due back on line in November/December, lowering costs of production for Focus which has been relying on toll treatment of its ore at Barminco's Greenfields plant.
Shortly after Three Mile Hill makes its comeback, Focus will also have burned off the remainder of its hedge book and paid off all debt. The timing of it all could not be better, assuming gold's recent advances hold.
Focus shares closed on Friday at all of 2.7c a share. While that gives the impression of a penny dreadful, it needs to be pointed out that Focus has got no less than 2.6 billion bits of paper on issue, giving it a market capitalisation more in keeping with its production profile of $72 million.

Australische Goldproduktion fängt an zurückzugewinnen und sollte weiter in den kommenden Monaten steigen passend zu neuem, oder verbesserte Betriebe, ein Report sagt.
Produktion stieg auf 57 Tonnen im Juni-Viertel, herauf zwei Prozent auf dem März-Viertel und up vier Prozent auf dem vorhergehenden Juni-Viertel, die gesagten Industrieberater Surbiton Teilnehmer.
Australiens Goldproduktion für das 2008/09 Geschäftsjahr fiel durch vier Prozent auf dem Jahr zuvor, auf 223 Tonnen.
Surbiton sagte, dass die jährliche Produktion über $8 Milliarde wert war.
„Wir scheinen, den Anfang einer Wiederaufnahme in der australischen Goldproduktion zu sehen,“ Surbiton Direktor Sandra nahes gesagt.
„Die Rampe oben einiger neuer Betriebe trug zu einer Zunahme der Menge des Erzes behandelt im Juni-Viertel.“ bei
Weitere Expansion im gegenwärtigen Viertel sollte das Wachstum in der Goldproduktion aufladen, sagte Surbiton.
Newmont Ltd. empfing neu entwickelte Boddington Grube in Westaustralien sein erstes Erz im August und könnte 31 Tonnen Australiens zur Produktion beitragen, wenn sie vollen Ausgang in mid-2010 erreicht.
Andere Goldbetriebe erwarteten, Produktion anzufangen, bevor das Ende von Kalender 2009 A1 Mineralien Ltd. Brightstar Projekt und Strecken-Projekt Fluss-Goldltd. Mt-Morgans, während drei Meilen-Hügelbehandlunganlage Fokus-Mineral-Ltd. nach Wiederentwicklung wieder gebeauftragt werden sollte, Surbiton sagte sind.
Das Hinzufügen der hellen Aussicht auf Produktion ist der neue Aufstieg in den Goldstandarden, die Analytiker konnten $US1,000 ($A1,191) eine Unze bald schlagen sagen.

Was mir auffällt, dass die Umsätze immer recht hoch sind in AUS - aber ein Geduldsspiel ist es doch mit der Aktie...
Irgendwie wirkt Focus festgefahren...es kommen keine großen Investoren.
Die selbigen kaufen aber auch nicht an der Börse.
Es ist nicht schön, daß in dieser Hausse die Blockade nicht aufgelöst wurde.
