The largest pegmatite deposits are in the vicinity of Bancroft, Canada. A significant thorium-bearing rare-earth carbonatite deposit is located in Mountain Pass, Calif. The maximum content of thorium (3–6 percent) is found in the rare-earth hydrothermal deposits at Steenkampskraal, in the Republic of South Africa. Eigentlich unglaublich, da sind allerdings IMHO die 134 Kommentare sehr interessant wie u.a.

Demnach müßte ja IMHO das Mitsubishi-Werk in Perak vor ca. 20 Jahren mit ihrem 50-fach hoheren Thoriumanteil im Deposit beriets halb Südostasien verseucht und ausgelöscht haben - oder?
Der Grund für die Schließung vom das Mitsubishi-Werk in Perak waren damals die REO-Dampingpreise aus China die u.a. auch MCP in den USA zum aufgeben gezwungen haben.
Beide Werke hatten allerdings auch Thoriunfälle zu verbuchen die aber nicht die Hauptgründe waren.
Was meist du welche Auswirkungen eine Nichtgenehmigung der Betriebserlaubnis für die LAMP bezogen auf die anderen REE-Explorer/Firmen in den USA, Kanada, Australien bedeuten würde, die nicht nur größere, aktive Umweltverbände in ihren Ländern haben und die zusätzlich noch wesentlich höhere Thoriumanteile in ihren Deposit haben im Vergleich zu Lynas?
u.a. werden in den von dir aufgeführten Artikel aufgeführt die IMHO wissentlich falsch dargestellt werden wie folgender Auszug:
The Gebeng plant is estimated to generate net exports worth 1% of our GDP. It is a lot of money. If we build 5 -6 of these within a year, our GDP growth target for one year will be met. But, who enjoys this GDP growth? It is Malaysians? No. Most of the money will go to Lynas. Due to the radioactive nature of the plant, Lynas is going to reduce radioactive exposure and employ very few people, roughly 450 workers. How many of them will be locals? Probably even lower. The plant may need transportation for the import of raw material and the export of processed rare earth. Perhaps, a little bit more business for Kuantan port too. That’s all that we get out of this RM700mil FDI.
Most of the profits will stay in Lynas, our government do not take a cut from that profit too. We give up our rights to tax them for 12 years or even longer. I am not sure how our tax code works, but, if we allow unused capital allowance to be carried forward, after the 12 years, Lynas may not pay tax either by utilizing all these unused capital allowance. After 12 years, new capital expenditure may be needed, making the amount of unused capital allowance even larger. By the time we tax manage to tax this plant, Lynas may already be planning to close down the plant. We basically invited a potential environmental disaster without receiving much in return.
Yes, Lynas said the plant will be safer than the Mitsubishi plant in Perak, but, why take the risk when we do not get anything in return. The cost of cleaning up the potential disaster and any health care related cost will be borne by the government. I hope the government will force Lynas to set aside a huge sum, like RM100mil into an emergency fund, to meet any environmental and healthcare obligations that arises from the plant.
Most Malaysians have developed the “tak apa” attitude. Most of us thinks that it is a problem that only concern the people in Kuantan. Let’s the Kuantan kids become retarded, as long as my kids can develop normally, then it is none of my business. But, what if the radioactive contaminate our local water source? People may still think that only people in Kuantan will be affected. Yes, it is true that unless water magically develop the ability to travel upstream, the water source for two million people in Klang Valley will not be affected via the Pahang-Selangor water diversion. But, what if, the water in Kuantan is being used for plantation? What if you eat the vegetables grown from this contaminated water source? What if the water flow to the sea and we eat the fish that is contains radioactive material? Given the lack of funding in our NGOs (hence less testing) and the propensity of our government to cover up any screw ups, the contamination may last a long time before it is being discovered. You may be eating vegetables and fishes contaminated by low level radiation for a long time before you suspect anything wrong. The rare earth plant may affect you in different ways that you do not think of.

Its sheer dominance of these precious commodities, which many countries rely on for their business and national security needs, has been a rattling point for major consumers such as the United States, the European Union and Japan. (Rare earths are found in cell phones, radar and high-end applications, including compact fluorescent light bulbs, flat-panel displays, iPads, automotive catalytic converters and rechargeable batteries for electric and hybrid vehicles, among many other things).
Warum - China fordert auf Grund der 35% REE-Ressourcen schon seit Jahren von westlichen Industrieländer ihre Rserven/Ressourcen zu erschließen und neue und bereits vorhande REE-Minen wieder zu erschließen und Produktionsanlagen zu bauen denn sie sind nicht mehr bereit mit 97% den REO-Bedarf zu decken bzw. zu expotieren.
Aus diem Grund werden/wird in den USA, Kanada, Australien usw. erschlossen und geplant, allerdings werden sie noch 2 und mehr jahre brauchen bis einmal eine nenneswerte Produktion in diesen Ländern aufgenommen werden kann mit Ausnahme von Lynas und vielleicht noch von MCP.
Warum meinst du das ausgerechnet, wie aufgeführt die New-York-Time, IMHO wieder besseren Wissens, die Gefährlichkeit der Lamp so in ihren Artikel angeprangert und somit den angeblichen Stein des Anstoßes so ins rollen gebracht hat?
Könnte es sein, das Interessen dasind zu Verhindern das allein Lynas von den extrem hohen REO-Preisen überdürschnitlich partizipieren würde und ihre nationalen Firmen ein wenig hinterherschauen müssen obwohl ich pers. davon überzeugt bin, auf Grund des weiter stark ansteigenden Bedarfs für mehre REO-Produzenten außerhalb Chinas Platz wäre?

Its sheer dominance of these precious commodities, which many countries rely on for their business and national security needs, has been a rattling point for major consumers such as the United States, the European Union and Japan. (Rare earths are found in cell phones, radar and high-end applications, including compact fluorescent light bulbs, flat-panel displays, iPads, automotive catalytic converters and rechargeable batteries for electric and hybrid vehicles, among many other things).
Warum - China fordert auf Grund der 35% REE-Ressourcen schon seit Jahren von westlichen Industrieländer ihre Rserven/Ressourcen zu erschließen und neue und bereits vorhande REE-Minen wieder zu erschließen und Produktionsanlagen zu bauen denn sie sind nicht mehr bereit mit 97% den REO-Bedarf zu decken bzw. zu expotieren.
Aus diem Grund werden/wird in den USA, Kanada, Australien usw. erschlossen und geplant, allerdings werden sie noch 2 und mehr jahre brauchen bis einmal eine nenneswerte Produktion in diesen Ländern aufgenommen werden kann mit Ausnahme von Lynas und vielleicht noch von MCP.
Warum meinst du das ausgerechnet, wie aufgeführt die New-York-Time, IMHO wieder besseren Wissens, die Gefährlichkeit der Lamp so in ihren Artikel angeprangert und somit den angeblichen Stein des Anstoßes so ins rollen gebracht hat?
Könnte es sein, das Interessen dasind zu Verhindern das allein Lynas von den extrem hohen REO-Preisen überdürschnitlich partizipieren würde und ihre nationalen Firmen ein wenig hinterherschauen müssen obwohl ich pers. davon überzeugt bin, auf Grund des weiter stark ansteigenden Bedarfs für mehre REO-Produzenten außerhalb Chinas Platz wäre?

Dort wird täglich eine neue sau drchs Dort gelassen mit zum Teil hahnebüchenen Behauptungen und trotzdem hat die Anti-LAMP-Gemeinde bisher wenige moblisiren können warscheinlich und das ist IMHO, zu durchsichtig und durch keine Fakten belegbar.

Wenn du dich wirklich ausführlich mit Lynas auseinander setzen willst kann ich dir diesen nur empfehlen, denn dann hättest du dir dein Posting mit den im Vergleich untereinander wiedersprüchlichen Berichten und Artikel sowie deiner Aussage und Schlussfolgerungen in diesr Form IMHO ersparen können.

PPS: Da bei den Angaben "20.000t Lynas" und "2000t Bukit Merah" keinerlei Gehaltsangaben zu Thorium und/oder Uran existieren, ist die Pauschalaussage "10x mehr" völliger bullshit! Auch der Vergleich BuMe-Abfall und LYC-Erz (oder Konzentrat?) ist völlig absurd. Wenn dann Abfall mit Abfall vergleichen ... dazu fehlen - wie bereits erwähnt - die Th-Gehalte!
