China slashed export quotas for rare earths by 72 percent in the second half of this year, sparking a surge in prices and highlighting global dependence on Chinese shipments. Government agencies are still working on next year’s export quota, commerce ministry spokesman Yao Jian said yesterday.
In a study of 14 rare-earth elements, the U.S. Energy Department found that supplies of dysprosium, which is used to make wind turbines and electric cars, may fall short of demand, David Sandalow, assistant secretary for policy and international affairs said on Dec. 15 in Washington.
China’s export tax for dysprosium will be kept at 25 percent next year, and the same with terbium, according to the statement of China’s finance ministry.
It takes seven to 10 years to obtain permission to open a new mine in the U.S., the longest among the top-25 mining countries, the Energy Department said in a report on Dec. 15. The department plans to begin research into critical materials and to work with Japan and nations in Europe to lower the risk of supply disruptions.

DINNER parties, corridors or in the lift - these are all places where Wesfarmers' personnel, or any other company employee for that matter, could pick up inside information.
Wesfarmers told its folk this week that if they had inside information that was not publicly known it was a criminal offence to trade in the company's shares, advise anyone else to trade in them, or pass on insider information to anyone else, including colleagues, family or friends.
''It does not matter how you come to know the inside information, including whether you learn it in the course of carrying out your responsibilities or in passing in the corridor or in a lift or at a dinner party,'' the policy advised.

Wesfarmers and a host of other listed companies have been working overtime lately writing and filing their share trading policies with the stock exchange.
Wesfarmers noted that trading by directors and executives was not allowed during certain blackout periods. One period is between July 1 and one trading day after the announcement of the full-year results, and between January 1 and one trading day after the interim results.
Telstra's policy, released yesterday, allows its people to deal in its shares in the period between 24 hours and one month after the release of the full-year results, the interim results, and the close of the annual meeting.
Meanwhile, directors who bought shares in the past week or so spent $6.4 million, while those selling collected nearly $19 million.
Helping things along on the selling side was Nicholas Curtis, executive chairman of Lynas Corporation, which says it owns the richest known deposit of rare earths in the world, in Western Australia.
In 2009, the scrip was as low as 10¢, this year its low was around 38¢ and yesterday the stock sold at $1.50.
Mr Curtis sold 5 million shares at about current levels. He also has an interest in 5 million shares issued this week following the exercise of options at 11¢ apiece.
On the buying side, a clutch of GWA directors bought shares. Earlier this month, GWA bought garage door maker Gliderol. Over the past week or so three directors - William Bartlett, John Mulcahy and Darryl McDonough - bought parcels of scrip ranging in value from $45,162 to $120,000.
Former auditor Brian Long, recently appointed non-executive chairman of Ten Network, opened his account when he bought 70,000 shares at $1.485 a share. The scrip closed the week at $1.43.

Bisher läuft und lief alles Bestens. Eigentlich sogar immer besser als erwartet!
Seien es die Basketetnwicklungen oder die bisher ausgehandelten Verträge. Das läfut alles außerordentlich gut.
Natürlich gibt es auch ein paar Risiken - aber hier handelt es sich ja schließlich um Aktien und nicht um Staatsanleihen. M. E. sind die Risiken derzeit aber überschaubar.
AUch wenn Juppes recht haben sollte - der Grund warum ich nicht aussteige und auf niedrigere Kurse warte, ist ganz einfach der, dass diese Aktie, wenn sie zum nächsten Höhenflug ansetzt, unglaublich schnelle hohe Sprünge macht. Die wird man als unerfahrener Trader nicht erwischen. Und so kommt es shcnell, dass man dem abfahrenden Zug hinterher schaut und sich ärgert nicht aufgesprungen zu sein.
Aus diesem Grund bleibe ich (wie so viele) long investiert und mache eben alle Höhen und Tiefen mit, kann mir aber sicher sein, dabei zu sein, wenn sie peu a peu steigt.
Sollten die von Juppes progonostizierten 20-30% Rückgang kommen, kommen sie eben. Ich bin aber andererseits dabei, wenn die Aktien 2011 Stück für Stück steigt.

die von dir geführte Diskussion hält mich zunächst von einem Einstieg ab.
Ob´s richtig war, wird sich zeigen.
Anderes macht mir jedoch Kopfzerbrechen: Wenn ich über TA´s, Auskurvungsmuster, Swing-Mustern, Nachkaufkurse, Korrekturen etc lese, wird mir ganz schwindelig.
Ich dachte, ich könne einfach in eine interessante Branche investieren und damit etwas Geld verdienen.
Wenn aber an den aufgezählten Dingen (und das scheint ja nur ein kleiner Teil zu sein) etwas dran ist,
muss ich doch einsehen, dass ich als Anfänger gar keine Chance habe, hier Geld zu machen.
Soviel Glück kann man doch gar nicht haben.
Oder muss ich hier "mitspielen", damit ihr die Kohle macht (Kanonenfutter oder wie nennt man das) ?
Was rätst du mir? Alles auf "rot" oder "27", oder ... ?
