Alcoa 2Q Net Falls 3.9%; Co Extends Time For Alcan Offer

Alcoa Inc. (AA) said late Monday that second-quarter earnings fell
3.9% to $ 715 million, or 81 cents a share, from $744 million, or
85 cents a share, a year earlier.
For the quarter ended June 30, revenue rose 3.4% to $8.07 billion
from $7.8 billion in the prior-year period.
The Pittsburgh aluminum company said earnings from continuing
operations totaled $749 million, or 81 cents a share.
Analysts polled by Thomson Financial on average expected earnings
of 81 cents a share on revenue of $8.34 billion.
Alcoa also extended the expiration time for its offer to acquire
Alcan Inc. ( AL) to 5 p.m.Aug. 10, subject to further
extension.
All other terms and conditions of Alcoa\'s offer remain the
same.
