Opec to cut supply if oil stays below $90
      8th Oct 2008 - By Upstream staff

Opec may need to consider cutting oil output if the price of crude remains below $90, Iraqi Oil Minister Hussain al-Shahristani said today.

"It has been a source of concern since the price has fallen since June and July," he said on the sidelines of an energy conference in the Turkish coastal city Antalya to Reuters.

"We are now looking at the market and if there are any future declines below $90 we will need to consider taking action," the minister said.

Oil fell by more than $4 to a 10-month low today as expectations mounted the international financial crisis would have a major impact on demand for fuel, but later pared some of its losses.

Fellow Opec members Libya and Iran have also expressed concerns this week about the impact of the worsening global crisis on the oil market.

Opec decided at a meeting in Vienna in September to comply strictly with its formal output target, a move officials said would result in the group trimming supply by about 500,000 barrels per day.

Opec’s next scheduled conference is on 17 December in Algeria.

Oil production from Galoc expected in 2 days
By Alena Mae S. Flores - Oct 8

The Energy Department expects the release of first oil from the Galoc field in offshore northwest Palawan in the next two days, a ranking government official said yesterday.

Energy Undersecretary Ramon Oca said first oil from Galoc was a milestone in the country’s drive toward energy independence.

“If current activities are completed without any delay, then first oil might be today or Thursday,” Oca told reporters.

Oca said the government was awaiting the final report of Galoc Production Co., operator of the Galoc field, which is estimated to contain 10 million to 20 millions of oil.

Galoc production was delayed for several months after typhoon Frank damaged the mooring and riser system in June. Galoc Production did repair works until September despite weather constraints.

First oil from Galoc expected today

THE OPERATORS of the Galoc oil field off Palawan province expect first oil to come out today or tomorrow, an Energy official said yesterday.

The official, who did not wish to be identified, said operational disruptions have been ruled out. "If current activities are completed without any delay, then first oil might be tomorrow or Thursday," the official said. He declined to give further details.

Early this month, bad weather once again affected the operations at the Galoc oilfield, leading the operators to send a new support vessel that is said to be capable of operating in rough seas.

First oil stream from the oilfield had been expected as early as the first quarter.

Australian oil exploration companies Otto Energy holds an 18.3% indirect interest in the Galoc field, while Nido Petroleum Ltd. owns 22.28%. Galoc Production Co. holds a 58.29% interest and is the main operator of the project.

Oriental Petroleum & Minerals Corp./Linapacan Oil Gas & Power Corp., Philodrill Corp., Forum Energy Philippines Corp., Alcorn Gold Resources Corp. and Petroenergy Resources Corp. own the remaining stake in the field.

The Galoc reservoir is some 2,200 meters below the sea floor and lies some 60 kilometers off the island of Palawan.

The area is estimated to have reserves of about 23.5 million barrels of oil, which is expected to hike oil supply in the country by 70% to slightly more than 40,000 barrels per day.

Galoc comes as a relief for the Philippines, which is trying to cut its annual import bill of $6 billion and is reeling from soaring fuel and food costs that have pushed inflation to record levels.

Galoc oil is said to be high-quality, light, nonwaxy and has a medium sulphur content. It will become the first major crude oil addition to the Asia-Pacific region. — Ava Kashima K. Austria

      Global Petroleum

      Hi stupidgame,

      Tommy :)
