      Abschreibungen

Shell, Mitsubishi wind power consortium to produce 'green hydrogen' -Yomiuri
TOKYO, April 7 (Reuters) - Japan's Mitsubishi Corp (8058.T) and Shell Plc (SHEL.L) aim to produce 400,000 tonnes of "green hydrogen" in 2030 through the companies' European offshore wind power project, the Yomiuri newspaper reported on Thursday.

Dutch renewable energy firm Eneco, owned by Mitsubishi and Japan's Chubu Electric Power Co (9502.T), has decided to invest 10% in a joint venture that includes Shell, Norway's Equinor (EQNR.OL) and others, for the project, the paper said.

The hydrogen would be produced through wind power instead of natural gas in a bid to reduce the fuel's carbon footprint, the Yomiuri said.

Shell raises Russia writedown to as much as $5 billion
LONDON (Reuters) - Shell will write down up to $5 billion following its decision to exit Russia, more than previously disclosed, while soaring oil and gas prices boosted trading activities in the first quarter, the company said on Thursday.

The post-tax impairments of between $4 billion and $5 billion in the first quarter will not impact the company's earnings, Shell said in an update ahead of its earnings announcement on May 5.

Shell, whose market capitalisation is around $210 billion, had previously said the Russia writedowns would reach around $3.4 billion. The increase was due to additional potential impacts around contracts, writedowns of receivables, and credit losses in Russia, a Shell spokesperson said.

Greenpeace wants TotalEnergies dropped from Rugby World Cup sponsors
PARIS, April 6 (Reuters) - Environmental organisation Greenpeace on Wednesday urged organisers of the 2023 Rugby World Cup to exclude oil and gas group TotalEnergies (TTEF.PA) from its list of official sponsors, notably because it did not exit Russia following Moscow's invasion of Ukraine.

In an open letter to Claude Atcher, general manager of the 2023 Rugby World Cup in France, Greenpeace wrote: "The sponsoring of the 2023 Rugby World Cup was already a real aberration in view of the climate emergency, it is all the more aberrant as the oil an gas major maintains its activities in Russia, taking the risk to participate in the financing of Vladimir Putin's war."

TotalEnergies, which has stakes in several Russian projects, has come under criticism after it stopped short of joining rivals Shell (SHEL.L) and BP (BP.L) in planning to divest oil and gas assets in Russia.

German residential battery unit sales may surge 67% in 2022 - study
FRANKFURT, April 6 (Reuters) - Sales of household power batteries in Germany may jump 67% in 2022 as residents employ energy-storage technology for a cheaper, renewable and more reliable supply of energy, industry association BVES said.

"High energy prices and the quest for security of supply will give home storage batteries a further push in 2022," BVES said on Wednesday, presenting an industry-commissioned study undertaken by 3Energie Consulting.

Household power battery unit sales could rise by 67% this year from 430,000 at the end of 2021, the report said.

As of April, that number has already grown to 500,000, representing 2.5 gigawatts (GW) of capacity, equivalent to one or two big nuclear power stations.

The number of units for the end of 2021, mostly installed in houses with rooftop solar power generation, was up by 145,000, or 50%, from 2020, and is 14 times the number in 2015.

Germany counts 2.2 million solar photovoltaic systems which produce power at home. Before residential batteries were available, the electricity produced went exclusively to the grid.

Now, more and more people are buying batteries as they become cheaper and bigger, spurred further by a quest for self-reliance amid spiralling energy bills.

Householders, typically families with detached houses, have been upgrading their homes to store surplus power for general use and, increasingly, to fuel electric cars and heat pumps.

Leading home-battery vendors in Germany include domestic players Senec (EBKG.DE), sonnen, owned by Shell (SHEL.L), and E3/DC, and foreign players such as LG Chem (051910.KS) and Tesla (TSLA.O). read more

Overall sales by the storage industry represented by BVES rose 29% last year to 8.9 billion euros ($9.7 billion), and may rise again by that percentage in 2022, 3Energie said, adding that the potential was uncertain.

Still, there were some hindrances to sales in the shape of logistics and supply-chain bottlenecks, which had led to shortages of raw materials and components, and the availability of qualified labour was tight.

Home-storage batteries for power and heat accounted for 4.4 billion euros of total turnover, which included pumped storage plants and grid size batteries to help power stations and industrial energy consumers regulate power supply flows.

Big Oil to tell Congress markets, not companies, set fuel prices-testimony
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - U.S. oil executives will tell Congress on Wednesday they are boosting energy output and no one company sets the price of gasoline, according to pre-released written testimony, as they defend charges by lawmakers of gouging with high fuel prices.

Lawmakers in the U.S. House Energy and Commerce Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations are holding the hearing, slated for 10:30 ET (14:30 GMT), to grill companies on why gasoline prices remain elevated even though prices for crude oil, the feedstock for fuels, have dropped.

Nigeria urges partners to relax rules for gas suppliers to boost LNG exports
ABUJA, April 5 (Reuters) - Nigeria is urging its multinational oil partners to allow third-party suppliers to sell gas to produce liquefied natural gas (LNG) at market rates to boost exports in a bid to tap demand in Europe, a junior oil minister said on Tuesday.

Timipre Sylva, minister of state for petroleum, said Nigeria LNG (NLNG) joint partners - state-oil firm NNPC, Shell, TotalEnergies and Eni - supply gas at subsidized rates to produce LNG for export.

This has left NLNG with insufficient gas supply and producing LNG at around 70% of its capacity, meaning it is unable to meet its local and foreign gas obligations, Sylva said.

"The partners are insisting that they can only allow third-party supply gas to the plant only if they agree to supply at subsidized rates," he said during a meeting with Sefano De Leo, Italy's new ambassador to Nigeria.

NLNG is the country's only LNG company and has a total production capacity of 22 million tonnes per annum (mtpa) of LNG and 5 mtpa of Natural Gas Liquids (NGLs) from its six-train plant complex.

The European Union is seeking to diversify its energy sources, De Leo said, especially after sanction were imposed on Russia, its biggest gas supplier, following its invasion of Ukraine in February.

Nigeria, which has the world's ninth largest proven gas reserves, has been facing severe power shortages since February due to gas shortages which have stymied generation leaving many people dependent on private generators. (Writing by Chijioke Ohuocha Editing by Marguerita Choy)
