WOONSOCKET, R.I., April 26 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- MultiCell Technologies, Inc. (OTC Bulletin Board: MCET) announced today that it has been granted a European patent (EP 1539819B1) covering certain of its therapeutic candidates for the treatment of cancer.

Increasing evidence suggests that the immune system regulates the development of cancer by several mechanisms. This regulation can be either beneficial through immunosurveillance and the destruction of cancer cells, or detrimental by facilitating tumor growth by shaping the immunophenotype of tumors, creating an immunosuppressive environment, or inducing regulatory T-cells.

MultiCell has created a new class of recombinant antibody therapeutics which redirect the immune response to specific cancer targets corresponding to the peptides engrafted onto the recombinant antibody. Such compositions are able to transform seemingly ineffective peptides into potent antibody therapeutics with a different mechanism of action compared to that of conventional antibody therapeutics currently in clinical use. These recombinant antibody therapeutics not only produce a potent immune response, but also stimulate the generation of cytolytic cells, and Interferon-gamma and Interleukin-2 producing T-cells. When coupled with MultiCell's dsRNA therapeutics, this new class of recombinant antibody therapeutics has been shown in animal models to eradicate cancer and generate immune protection against the reoccurrence of malignant tumors.

"We are very pleased that the European Patent Office has decided to grant us a patent covering our novel compositions and method for the treatment of cancer as well as for the treatment of infectious disease," stated Jerry Newmin, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of MultiCell Technologies. "Our technology uses the antibody molecule as a platform to better present a peptide to immune cells thereby increasing the overall immune response to the peptide," Mr. Newmin added.

MultiCell also owns exclusive rights to two issued U.S. patents (6,872,389 and 6,129,911), one U.S. patent application (U.S. 2006/0019387A1), and several corresponding issued and pending foreign patents and patent applications related to the isolation and differentiation of liver stem cells. The role of liver stem cells in the carcinogenic process has recently led to a new hypothesis that hepatocellular carcinoma arises by maturation arrest of liver stem cells. In addition, liver cancer and cancerous stem cells specifically, are amenable to targeted therapeutic approaches including peptide-directed immunotherapy.

Primary liver cancer begins in the cells of the liver itself. According to the National Cancer Institute (NCI), in 2008 there were approximately 21,400 new cases of primary liver cancer and intrahepatic bile duct cancer in the United States, and approximately 18,400 of those cases resulted in death. Hepatocellular carcinoma, resulting from Hepatitis B and Hepatitis C infection, is the most common cancer in some parts of the world, with more than 1 million new cases diagnosed each year. The NCI also reports that hepatocellular carcinoma is associated with cirrhosis of the liver in 50% to 80% of patients.

The past few days brought joy and optimism among Multicell Technologies, Inc.(OTC:MCET, MCET message board) investors. Since the beginning of the year, the price has almost tripled. Yesterday`s session is of particular interest, given the 40% increase and the immense trading activity - the session closed at $0.0115 and more than 66 million shares were traded during the day. Sharp increases and declines in the stock price are common for MultiCell Technologies, yet, more often than not there was a specific reason for the sparkling investment activity. Not this time, or at least no official reason like a company announcement, stock promotion or industry news can be pointed out. This time, the Internet forums did the job of the stock promoters and they obviously did it right, since such trading activity has not been seen since last April.


A main reason why people rushed to buy MultiCell shares was the vivid discussion in the forums about an upcoming PR from the company related to its current development. Opinions even set the date for it to be Jan. 25th. Of course, if it happens the stock price would increase in an even more rapid manner, leaving traders from yesterday with a more than 100% profit in 24 hours. If it does not, all the buzz would have just been another pump and dump.

zur Verstärkung in den Board of Directors aufgenommen.
Die Internetauftritt ist aktuell und ansehnlich.
Die Informationpolitik gegenueber den Aktionären ist gut.
Auch wird immer fristgerecht der SEC berichtet.
Die Firma entwickelt Therapien zur Behandlung von Ermuedungserscheinungen bei MS Patienten und diverse Krebstherapien.
Sollte die Kapitalbeschaffung gelingen, hat die Gesellschaft eine Zukunft. Dann werden wir wesentlich bessere Kurse an der Börse sehen.

Der letzte Run ist schon 1,5 Jahre her, da wo sie Patente bekommen haben.
Seitdem ging nix mehr, nur steil nach unten uns seit längerem kaum Handel um die 0,0015 USD.

WOONSOCKET, R.I., May 16, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- MultiCell Technologies, Inc. (OTC Bulletin Board: MCET.OB) is pleased to announce the filing of a U.S. patent application concerning methods and formulations to achieve targeted tumor cell death. MCT-485 is a noncoding double stranded micro RNA (miRNA) which has demonstrated oncolytic and immune stimulating activity in in vitro models of hepatocellular carcinoma.

Hepatocellular carcinoma is the most common form of primary liver cancer, and is a leading cause of cancer death. Hepatocellular carcinoma remains an unmet medical need, and today's approaches for treatment are of limited efficacy. A potential role for noncoding double stranded miRNAs such as MCT-485 in the control of tumors has recently emerged in a variety of models with recognition of their ability to stimulate an immune response or directly affect cell death.

Current standard-of-care in certain clinical stages of hepatocellular carcinoma is based on trans catheter arterial chemoembolization (TACE) utilizing suspension of doxorubicin in lipiodol or drug eluting beads, with or without other approaches. While such approaches have shown an improvement of the clinical outlook over symptomatic treatment, novel compounds and treatments are needed to ensure a more durable management of tumor and delay or prevention of tumor relapse. Compounds such as MCT-485 possessing both oncolytic and immune activating properties could be superior to doxorubicin, cisplatin and other chemotherapies employed in TACE, as robust activation of immunity in the context of antigen release associated with cell death could have a more global and longer lasting anti-tumor effect.

The key need addressed by this invention is directing the powerful biological effect of miRNAs such as MCT-485 towards the tumor and away from normal tissues. Formulations that meet several criteria: (1) are safe enough to allow parenteral administration by infusion (venous, arterial) or topical administration (intra-tumoral); (2) achieve an increased bioavailability within tumor and tumor cells respectively, by virtue of having a ligand for a tumor associated receptor; and, (3) contain a synthetic miRNAs with one or more of immune modulating and cytotoxic modes of action when delivered via this formulation.

Immer nur ein kurzer Ansatz nach oben - dann gehts gleich wieder zum Ausgangsppunkt zurück...

Die Nachricht von gestern war doch positiv, es soll ein Patent angemeldet werden.
Als 2010 ein Patent angemeldet wurde, da ist die Aktie schnell auf 0,024 hochgerannt!

Hat jemand eine Meinung dazu?

Die 0,001 USD Marke ist wieder überschritten.

Die Aktie wurde als einer der Favoriten im Bio-Bereich für 2014 empfohlen (siehe www.ihub.com/Multicell-Board).

Hoffe mal, dass dieses Jahr hier dicke was geht!
Habe schon einige Aktien dieser Gesellschaft.

Vielleicht kommen bald Testergebnisse der Phase 2 oder weitere Patente?

Nun, die Firma selbst hat schon lange nichts mehr veröffentlicht.
Eine gute PR jetzt die Tage...würde sicherlich einen schönen Hpye auslösen!

unsere Multicell scheint gerade wieder nach oben auszubrechen !

Im ihub erwartet man News.

Es wäre bei Multicell auch wirklich an der Zeit, dass die mal wieder eine positive PR rausbringen!

Hoffentlich keine Eintagsfliege!
Ein paar schöne weisse Kerzen und höhere Kurse wären mir nach wieder relativ langer Wartezeit schon sehr angenehm!

Vor ich glaube 3 Jahren ist die Aktie auf über 20 Cents gestiegen aufgrund der Bewilligung eines neuen Patentes. Jedenfalls so was habe ich noch in Erinnerung.

naja... solange keine brauchbare PR kommt, wird es wohl nix werden mit einer Kurssteigerung. Aber nachdem der Umsatz so hoch war die letzten zwei Tage, sollte man die Aktie nächste Woche gut beobachten.

(OTC Bulletin Board: MCET) has filed additional U.S. and international patent applications covering MCT-485 and its composition of matter, biological targets, mechanism of action, and methods and formulations for therapeutic use.

MCT-485 is a very small noncoding double stranded RNA (dsRNA) molecule which has demonstrated a unique cytotoxic, oncolytic, and immune stimulating activity in in vitro models of hepatocellular carcinoma. MCT-485 is thought to target cancer by delivering a cytotoxic and oncolytic effect to only those cells having the highest tumor initiating capability that are part of the cancerous process such as cancer stem cells and tumor initiating cells. MCT-485 appears to have no effect on cells not directly involved in the process of relapse, progression and metastasis of cancer.

MCT-485 has demonstrated in in vitro models the ability to kill transformed liver cancer cells while not harming normal, non-transformed liver cells. "MCT-485 addresses the need to directly target liver cancer cells and not normal liver cells", said W. Gerald Newmin, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer. MCT-485 is currently being evaluated in animal models of hepatocellular carcinoma. MultiCell also plans to study MCT-485 in relevant in vitro and animal models for other major cancers.

In contrast to other species of RNAs including siRNAs, MCT-485 appears to induce cancer cell death through a biological process called pyroptosis; a caspase 1-dependent self-destruction cell death that involves pro-inflammatory cytokine production. Typically, pyroptosis is triggered by various pathological stimuli. MCT-485 is thought to suppress or modify the amount of mRNA being expressed by various genes linked to the metabolism, proliferation and viability of cancer cells thereby inducing a state of cellular stress within the cancer cell. MCT-485 appears to exert a preferential biological activity on transformed liver cancer cells while showing no effect on normal, non-transformed liver cells.

Treatment of hepatocellular carcinoma, the most common form of primary liver cancer, represents a major unmet medical need. Hepatocellular carcinoma is a leading cause of cancer death worldwide, and is the fourth most common cancer in the world. Over 1 million cases of hepatocellular carcinoma are reported annually worldwide. Current approaches for treatment of hepatocellular carcinoma are of limited efficacy. According to the U.S. National Cancer Institute (NCI), only 16% of patients diagnosed with primary liver cancer survive longer than 5 years. MCT-485, possessing oncolytic and immune activating properties, could be superior to currently marketed therapies by providing highly targeted killing of liver cancer cells coupled with a more robust activation of immunity and a global and longer lasting anti-tumor effect. Additionally, due to its unique mechanism of action, MCT-485 could also prove effective in killing other types of cancers.
