MILAN, July 28 (Reuters) - Italian power grid operator Terna intends to spend 250-350 million euros by 2010 on developing solar power plants on land it owns, the company said on Tuesday.
Terna will set up a company called Sungrid that will develop 70-100 megawatts of installed photovoltaic capacity, it said in slides accompanying its first-half results.
The EBITDA margin on sales of the operation will be around 85 percent, it said.
'We are aiming for a double-digit return on the investment with an IRR (internal rate of return) of 11-12 percent,' the company's chief executive, Flavio Cattaneo, said in a conference call with analysts.
Cattaneo said the idea was to develop the solar power plants and then sell them on.
The capital gains from the sale would then be reinvested in the domestic power grid and in dispatching services, he said.
Sungrid will generate revenues of about 45-55 million euros per year, he said.
Terna, Europe's biggest independent grid operator in terms of assets, has already discussed the project with Italy's energy regulator and with the Industry ministry, Cattaneo said.

Italy power consumption down 7.3 pct in May-Terna
MILAN, June 8 (Reuters) - Electricity consumption in Italy fell 7.3 percent year on year to 25.4 billion kilowatt hours (KW.h) in May, a consequence of the economic downturn, the country's power grid operator Terna said on Monday.
Although the month had one less working day than the same period last year, the effect it might have had on total consumption was partly offset by greater use of air conditioning and other cooling devices with the warmer weather, it said in a statement.
Consumption in the first five months of the year was down 8.6 percent compared with the same period a year ago. Adjusted for working days, it was down 7.8 percent.
In May, consumption dropped 9.2 percent in Italy's industrialised north, which accounted for 44.1 percent of the total electricity consumed in the country.
In the country's less developed south, demand fell 3.8 percent.
Domestic power production, which in May met 85.2 percent of demand, was down 8.3 percent on the year at 22.2 billion KW/h.
Cheap hydroelectric production rose 31.6 percent, while wind-generated power was up 12.3 percent, Terna said.
Fossil fuel power output fell 18.6 percent.

In July, a note from Terna informed, the quantity of electric energy requested in Italy was 30.4 billion kilowatts, a drop of 4.3% compared to the volume requested for the same period of 2008. Regarding the results for 2009, aligned to the number of 23 working days, the average temperature of about a half degree for the month compared to 2008 influenced usage (with more usage of energy for refrigeration equipment). Adjusted for this to this effect, the variation in demand for electricity for July 2009 results equal to -4.9% (adjusted data). In terms of the trend, the seasonally adjusted data for electricity demand for July 2009 resulted up 3.4% compared to the previous month.
In total the needs for the first seven months of 2009 registered a drop of 8.2% compared to the same period of 2008; considering the number of working days, the decrease is equal to -7.7%. The negative trend for the use of electric energy will not affect the development activities for the grid planned by Terna. The authority for electricity and gas, recognising the nature of the infrastructure, introduced a mechanism that makes the decrease in electricity volumes weigh less on the tariffs applied for consumption, through an exemption of +/-0.5%. For the month of July 2009 demand for electric energy was 86.1% satisfied by national production with the remaining share of 13.9% through energy exchanges abroad. In detail, net national production (26.6 billion kw) was down 7.4% compared to July 2008; up for wind generated energy (+34.4%) and hydro-electric (+0.9%), down on the other hand thermo-electric production (-10.3%) and geothermal-electric (-4.3%). On the territorial level the variation in demand is differentiated: -7.2% in the north, -3.5% in the centre, and +0.7% for the south. The 30.4 billion kilowatts per hour required for the month were distributed 43.5% in the north, 30.1% in the centre and 26.4% in the south.

Terna approved its results as of June 30: double-digit growth, investments rising. “2010 better than expectations” remarked CEO Flavio Cattaneo.
Double-digit growth of economic indicators with revenues standing at 761 million euros, rising by nearly 14% compared to the first six months of 2009, Gross Operating Margin at 569 million euros with a 12% increase and the Net Income at 234 million euros, rising by 27%.
These are significant figures that were approved by Terna’s Board of Directors in its half year report, that Flavio Cattaneo commented as follows “The results of the first half of the year are very positive. We estimate that 2010 will exceed expectations.”
Terna also announced that, thanks to greater efficiency in supplying resources for dispatching services, with a 50% reduction, it will receive a 38.5 million euro incentive thus generating savings for the electricity systems that are 15 times higher. “Good regulations have a positive impact on the electricity bills of Italian consumers – remarked the CEO – thanks to greater efficiency in dispatching services, during the first half of the year, the electricity system registered a saving which was 15 times higher than the incentive of 38.5 million euros assigned to Terna”.
The acceleration of investments for the grid’s development continued. Investments reached 486 million euros with an increase of nearly 30%. Works for the Casellina-Tavernuzze-Santa Barbara power line in Tuscany are in progress as well as for upgrading the grid in Val d’Ossola; building yards have been opened for the Sorgente-Rizziconi connection between Sicily and Calabria. The acceleration of investments for the grid’s development continued. However, efforts are needed on the part of both central and local authorities, to further expedite authorization procedures.”
The target of the “Suntergrid” project for the enhancement of land adjacent to electricity sub-stations has doubled to 150 MWp with respect to the initial target of the project. The planned investment increased from 300 million to 450 million euros. According to Terna’s CEO, the target increase “can be achieved between 2010 and early 2011”.

Der italienische Stromnetzbetreiber Terna investiert 85 Mio. Euro in eine neue Strom-Hochspannungsleitung zwischen Italien und Österreich. Terna wird die neue, zur Gänze unterirdisch verlaufende Stromverbindung über den Reschenpass mit einer Spannung von 220 Kilovolt (kV) bauen. Diese wird über eine Strecke von 24 Kilometern Nauders in Tirol mit dem Netzknoten der Südtiroler Gemeinde Glurns verbinden, der für diesen Zweck ausgebaut wird, so Terna in einer Presseaussendung.
Die Hochspannungsleitung baut Terna mit dem österreichischen Übertragungsnetzbetreiber Austrian Power Grid (APG). Die Bauarbeiten werden zwei Jahre lang dauern. Nach APG-Angaben von vor einem Jahr soll die Inbetriebnahme 2023 erfolgen, die Investitionen wurden mit rund 70 Mio. Euro beziffert. Die neue Verbindung werde es ermöglichen, die Stromnetze von Nachbarländern besser zu integrieren und den verfügbaren Strom im Austausch effizienter zu nutzen, erklärte Terna nun. Damit sei es auch möglich, günstigeren Strom aus dem Ausland ins Land zu bringen.
"Dieses Projekt ist für uns ein Meilenstein. Dank unserem Entwicklungsplan ist Italien einerseits immer enger an die Länder des Mittelmeerraums und auf der anderen Seite mit Österreich, der Schweiz und Frankreich verbunden, so Terna-CEO Stefano Donnarumma.

Terna vollzieht seit vielen jahren eine stetige aufwärtsbewegung. Sieht man sich den aktuellen newsflow an, dürfte es auch die nächsten jahre aufwärts gehen.
Ich denke eine krisensichere aktie.
Die kursbewegung finde ich wieder mal typisch. So wie bei vielen anderen aktien auch. Da kommen positive news und der kurs fällt.
Für mich ein klares zeichen von insiderhandel. Wissende decken sich vorher ein, und wenn die positiven news rauskommen, verkaufen sie.
Ist mir aber egal, das ist halt so. Damit muss man sich abfinden an der börse. Sollte es weiter runtergehen werde ich gerne nochmal nachlegen.

Der rückgang könnte ungefähr mit dem verminderten verbrauch durch die coronakrise korrelieren.
Der kurs tümpelt so dahin. Aber immerhin sind wir auf ca. vorkrisenniveau.
