Sunesis Presents Positive Phase 2 Clinical Data of Voreloxin in Acute Myeloid Leukemia at the American Society of Hematology 2009 Annual Meeting

Conference Call Scheduled for December 8 at 2:00 PM EST to Discuss ASH Data Presentations

SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, CA -- (MARKET WIRE) -- 12/07/09 -- Sunesis Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (NASDAQ: SNSS) today announced positive data from two Phase 2 clinical trials of the Company's lead drug candidate, voreloxin. The results highlight voreloxin's strong efficacy and safety profile when used as a single agent or in combination with chemotherapy in patients with difficult to treat acute myeloid leukemia (AML). The trial results were presented at the 51st American Society Hematology (ASH) Annual Meeting in New Orleans, LA. The presentations are available on the Sunesis website at www.sunesis.com.

"These results provide us with the efficacy and safety data to move voreloxin forward into pivotal testing," said Steven Ketchum, Ph.D., Senior Vice President of Research and Development at Sunesis. "Trial results show that the high rates of remission observed in both trials have translated into durable effects with meaningful preliminary overall survival results. With an anticipated median survival of three and a half to six months on currently available therapies, primary refractory and first relapse AML patients are particularly in desperate need of more effective treatment options. We look forward to discussing these data with the FDA in our End-of-Phase 2 meeting scheduled for the first quarter of 2010."

Phase 1b/2 Clinical Trial of Voreloxin in Combination with Cytarabine in Relapsed/Refractory (Abstract No. 645)

In an oral presentation, Jeffrey Lancet, M.D., Associate Member, Section Chief - Leukemia, Department of Hematologic Malignancies, at the H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center & Research Institute and a clinical trial investigator, presented data from a Phase 1b/2 clinical trial testing voreloxin in combination with cytarabine, a widely used chemotherapy, in patients with relapsed or refractory AML. The trial is designed to evaluate the safety, pharmacokinetics and anti-leukemic activity of escalating doses of voreloxin when administered in combination with cytarabine given either as continuous infusion or as a two hour IV infusion. To date, 66 patients have been treated in the expansion Phase 2 populations of the trial, which includes primary refractory and first relapse AML patients. Of these, 64 patients were evaluable for efficacy outcomes.

Among evaluable first relapse (n=36) and primary refractory patients (n=28), preliminary median overall survival is 7.8 months and the remission rate is 31% (complete remission [CR] 27%, complete remission without full platelet recovery [CRp] 2% and complete remission with incomplete recovery [CRi] 2%). Historical median overall survival data in primary refractory and first relapse patients on currently available chemotherapies range from 3.4 to 5.9 months(1) (2).
Voreloxin in combination with either bolus or continuous infusion cytarabine was generally well-tolerated. Infection-related toxicities were the most common Grade 3 or higher non-hematologic adverse events. In addition, Grade 3 or higher oral mucositis was observed.
All-cause mortality among these patients was 1% at 30 days and 8% at 60 days.
A recommended pivotal dose-regimen of voreloxin used in combination with cytarabine has been identified.
"Voreloxin has induced remissions in difficult to treat relapsed, primary refractory and relapsed/refractory AML patients," said Dr. Lancet. "Voreloxin used in combination with cytarabine has demonstrated meaningful anti-leukemic activity with an acceptable tolerability profile in these difficult-to-treat patients."

Phase 2 Clinical Trial of Single Agent Voreloxin in Newly Diagnosed Elderly AML (REVEAL-1 Trial) (Abstract No. 1037)

In a poster presentation, investigators presented data from the fully enrolled REVEAL-1 (Response Evaluation of VorEloxin in AmL) trial, a Phase 2 dose optimization trial of single agent voreloxin in previously untreated, elderly AML patients who are unlikely to benefit from standard induction chemotherapy. 113 AML patients have been treated in the trial, all of whom had at least one additional adverse risk factor at enrollment, including intermediate or unfavorable cytogenetics in the majority of patients. Median age for patients in the trial was 74 years. The trial includes three dosing schedules: Schedule A, once weekly for three weeks (n=29); Schedule B, once weekly for two weeks (n=35); and Schedule C, on days one and four at either 72 mg/m2 (n=29) or 90 mg/m2 (n=20).

Median survival was 8.7 months in Schedule A; 5.8 months in Schedule B; and 7.3 months (preliminary) in Schedule C (72 mg/m2 on days one and four).
Median duration of remission was 10.7 months and one year survival was 38% for Schedule A. For the other schedules, median duration of remission has not been reached and one year survival is too early to evaluate.
Patients age 75 or older (N=49) with at least 1 additional risk factor at diagnosis, a population identified by the National Comprehensive Cancer Network (2010) AML Guidelines as having poor outcome to standard treatment, experienced a CR rate of 30% and a 30-day all-cause mortality of 5%. Survival in these patients was too early to evaluate.
Based on trial results, Schedule C has been determined to be the recommended pivotal dose regimen. For Schedule C, response rates (CR and CRp) are 38%; 30- and 60-day all-cause mortality are 7% and 17% with improved tolerability over Schedule A.
"Voreloxin has demonstrated a unique combination of anti-leukemic activity and tolerability, important for patients who are unlikely to benefit from standard induction therapy," said Robert K. Stuart, M.D., Professor of Medicine, Division of Hematology/Oncology, Department of Medicine, Medical University of South Carolina, and an investigator in the Phase 2 clinical trial. "Particularly encouraging are the durable response, tolerability and promising survival results in the Schedule C group. I look forward to seeing further data from this trial as it matures, particularly voreloxin's durability and overall survival in Schedule C."

      About Voreloxin

Voreloxin is a first-in-class anticancer quinolone derivative, or AQD, a class of compounds that has not been used previously for the treatment of cancer. Voreloxin both intercalates DNA and inhibits topoisomerase II, resulting in replication-dependent, site-selective DNA damage, G2 arrest and apoptosis. Voreloxin is currently being evaluated in a Phase 2 clinical trial (known as the REVEAL-1 trial) in previously untreated elderly AML patients and in a Phase 1b/2 clinical trial combining voreloxin with cytarabine for the treatment of patients with relapsed/refractory AML, as well as in an ongoing Phase 2 single-agent trial in platinum-resistant ovarian cancer.

      About Acute Myeloid Leukemia

AML is a rapidly progressing cancer of the blood characterized by the uncontrolled proliferation of immature blast cells in the bone marrow. The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society estimates that nearly 13,000 new cases of AML will be diagnosed and approximately 9,000 deaths from AML will occur in the U.S. in 2009. AML is generally a disease of older adults, and the median age of a patient diagnosed with AML is about 67 years. AML patients with relapsed or refractory disease and newly diagnosed AML patients over 60 years of age with poor prognostic risk factors typically die within one year, resulting in an acute need for new treatment options for these patients.

Sunesis Announces Data From Phase 2 Clinical Program of Voreloxin in Acute Myeloid Leukemia Support Phase 3 Trial in Relapsed or Refractory Patients / Updated, Positive Phase 2 Data in AML and Ovarian Cancer Presented at the ASCO 2010 Annual Meeting; Sun

SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, CA -- (Marketwire) -- 06/07/10 -- Sunesis Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (NASDAQ: SNSS) today announced updated clinical data from Phase 2 clinical studies of the Company's lead drug candidate, voreloxin, in acute myeloid leukemia (AML) and platinum-resistant ovarian cancer. The results were presented today at the 2010 American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) Annual Meeting in Chicago, Illinois. The presentations are available on the Sunesis website at www.sunesis.com.

Clinical data from the Sunesis' Phase 2 clinical trial of voreloxin in combination with cytarabine in first relapsed or primary refractory AML exhibit a meaningful improvement in overall survival relative to literature-based values reported for current treatment standards of care, including cytarabine-based regimens. These positive clinical findings, along with formal feedback from both U.S. and EU regulatory agencies, support Sunesis' plan to initiate a multinational, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled, pivotal Phase 3 clinical trial of voreloxin in combination with cytarabine in a relapsed/refractory AML patient population in the second half of this year.

"Across both AML studies, either as a single agent in frontline elderly AML or in combination with cytarabine in relapsed/refractory AML, voreloxin has consistently achieved clinically meaningful remission rates balanced with impressively low all-cause early mortality," said Robert K. Stuart, M.D., Professor of Medicine, Division of Hematology/Oncology, Department of Medicine, Medical University of South Carolina and a clinical study investigator for both Phase 2 AML clinical trials. "There remains a significant and enduring unmet need for new therapies among patients with this disease. These results merit investigation in a larger outcome study in AML and I look forward to actively participating in Sunesis' planned Phase 3 clinical trial in relapsed/refractory AML."

"Data from these Phase 2 trials underscore voreloxin's potential as a treatment for both hematologic cancers and solid tumors," said Steven Ketchum, Ph.D., Senior Vice President of Research and Development at Sunesis. "In particular, in our Phase 2 trial of relapsed/refractory AML, voreloxin in combination with cytarabine has demonstrated impressive survival outcomes, leading us to focus our initial development and registration efforts on this patient population. Based on our substantial Phase 2 dataset, combined with our careful review of literature and input from clinical advisors and regulatory agencies, we are confident that our planned Phase 3 trial is rigorously designed to detect a significant difference in overall survival."

With 450 evaluable patients, the Phase 3 clinical trial will have 90% power to detect a 40% difference in overall survival. In this trial, there will be a single prespecified interim analysis by an independent Data Safety Monitoring Board (DSMB) which will enable the DSMB to implement a one-time sample size adjustment of 225 additional evaluable patients to maintain adequate power across a broader range of potential survival outcomes. Sunesis' ongoing focus is directed toward the initiation of this multinational pivotal Phase 3 trial later this year.

Phase 2 Clinical Trial of Voreloxin in Combination with Cytarabine in Relapsed/Refractory AML - Abstract #6526

In a poster presentation and poster discussion session, investigators presented data from a Phase 2 clinical trial testing voreloxin in combination with cytarabine, a widely used chemotherapy, in patients with relapsed or refractory AML. In this trial, a total of 69 patients with first relapse or primary refractory AML have been treated at doses of 80 to 90 mg/m2 of voreloxin, in addition to either bolus or continuous infusion cytarabine.

      * Among evaluable first relapse (n=36) and primary refractory patients (n=33), median overall survival is 7.1 months. Of these patients, over 80% were either primary refractory or had an initial first remission (CR1) of less than 12 months. 20 patients are still in survival follow-up and are beyond the current median; 12 of these patients have survived out to one year or more as of the most recent evaluation.
      * Preliminary median leukemia-free survival (LFS) is 10.8 months.
      * The overall remission rate was 29% with the vast majority being complete remissions (17 of 20).
      * Infection-related toxicities were the most common Grade 3 or higher non-hematologic adverse events, all of which were expected. In addition, Grade 3 or higher oral mucositis was observed. The combination of voreloxin and cytarabine, regardless of cytarabine schedule, did not appear to exacerbate mucositis.
      * All-cause mortality among these patients was 3% at 30 days and 9% at 60 days.
      * The dose regimen to be used in the pivotal Phase 3 trial is 90 mg/m2 of voreloxin given as a 10 minute infusion on days one and four and 1 g/m2 of bolus cytarabine given as a two hour infusion on days one through five.

Phase 2 Clinical Trial of Single Agent Voreloxin in Newly Diagnosed Elderly AML (REVEAL-1 Trial) - Abstract #6525

In a poster presentation and poster discussion session, investigators presented data from the REVEAL-1 (Response Evaluation of VorEloxin in AmL) trial, a Phase 2 dose optimization trial of single agent voreloxin in previously untreated, elderly AML patients who are unlikely to benefit from standard induction chemotherapy. 113 AML patients have been treated in the trial, 82 percent of whom had two or more adverse risk factors, including age greater than 70 and intermediate or unfavorable cytogenetics. Median age for patients in the trial was 74 years. The REVEAL-1 trial includes three dosing schedules. As previously reported, Schedule C (72 mg/m2 of voreloxin on days one and four) is the recommended dose regimen for further study.

      * For Schedule C (72 mg/m2, n=30), median overall survival was 7.7 months and one year survival is approximately 38%, with 33% of patients remaining in follow-up. Response rate (CR and CRp) was 38%; 30- and 60-day all-cause mortality were 7% and 17%, respectively.
      * The most common grade 3 or higher non-hematologic adverse events included upper GI mucosal inflammation and infection.

"For elderly AML patients that present with additional risk factors, options are often limited due to the patients' intolerance to standard treatment," said Farhad Ravandi, M.D., Associate Professor, Department of Leukemia, Division of Cancer Medicine, The University of Texas M. D. Anderson Cancer Center, and an investigator in the Phase 2 clinical trial. "Voreloxin has demonstrated both strong anti-leukemic activity and adequate tolerability in this population, a balance which has yielded encouraging survival outcomes. I look forward to seeing voreloxin developed further in this and other AML settings."

Phase 2 Clinical Trial of Single Agent Voreloxin in Women with Platinum-Resistant Ovarian Cancer - Abstract #5002

Final clinical data from the Phase 2 trial of single agent voreloxin in women with platinum-resistant ovarian cancer were also presented during an oral presentation at the ASCO 2010 Annual Meeting. Platinum resistance is defined as progression within six months of completing platinum-based chemotherapy or progression while on platinum-based chemotherapy. Patients may have received up to three prior platinum regimens plus one additional non-platinum cytotoxic regimen. For approximately one third of the patients studied, prior treatment with Doxil® had failed. A total of 143 patients were enrolled in the trial, and enrollment was completed in December of 2008. Three dose cohorts of voreloxin were studied, and the 60 mg/m2 of voreloxin given every four weeks used in Cohort B is the recommended dose regimen for further study.

      * Data from this Phase 2 trial demonstrated encouraging, durable anti-tumor activity across all three dose cohorts, with the majority of patients achieving stable disease or an objective response.
      * For Cohort B (n=37), 54% of patients achieved disease control including 11% objective response rate (ORR, 2 CRs and 2 PRs), low incidence of grade 3 or higher febrile neutropenia (16%) and a long progression-free survival, with one patient remaining on study after 26 cycles of voreloxin. Median progression-free survival (PFS) was 85 days.
      * Four PRs were achieved in the 44 women who were Doxil® failures for an ORR of 9%. 66% of these patients achieved disease control, and median PFS in Doxil® failure patients was 91 days.
      * Overall, the adverse event profile was similar across cohorts and voreloxin was generally well-tolerated. Grade 3 or higher adverse events occurring in more than 10% of patients included neutropenia, febrile neutropenia, and anemia, all of which were expected and reversible with standard care.

"Responses to single agent voreloxin observed in women with ovarian cancer for whom multiple prior therapies have failed, including some for whom both platinum-based chemotherapy and Doxil® had failed, are promising," said Hal Hirte, M.D., Associate Professor, McMaster University, Department of Oncology and Chief of Oncology, Juravinski Cancer Centre at Hamilton Health Sciences and an investigator for the Phase 2 clinical trial. "These data warrant further investigation of voreloxin in this vastly underserved patient population, both in this later stage, salvage setting and in earlier lines of therapy."

SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, CA, Sep 29, 2010 (MARKETWIRE via COMTEX News Network) -- Sunesis Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (NASDAQ: SNSS) announced today that it received a letter, dated September 28, 2010, from The NASDAQ Stock Market notifying Sunesis that it has been granted an additional 180-day compliance period, or until March 28, 2011, to regain compliance with the $1.00 per share minimum bid price rule for continued listing on The NASDAQ Capital Market, as set forth in NASDAQ Listing Rule 5550(a)(2). The letter states that, pursuant to Listing Rule 5810(c)(3)(A), Sunesis is eligible for an additional compliance period because it meets all other NASDAQ Capital Market initial listing criteria set forth in Listing Rule 5505. The new compliance period is an extension of the initial 180-day period provided for in NASDAQ's deficiency notice to Sunesis, dated March 31, 2010.

The NASDAQ letter does not impact Sunesis' listing on The NASDAQ Capital Market at this time and Sunesis' common stock will continue to trade under its current symbol "SNSS" during the additional 180-day compliance period.

Sunesis may regain listing compliance by maintaining a closing bid price of its common stock of at least $1.00 per share for a minimum of 10 consecutive business days at any time before March 28, 2011. If, pursuant to Listing Rule 5810(c)(3)(A), Sunesis meets the outlined requirements, NASDAQ will provide written confirmation to Sunesis that it complies with Listing Rule 5550(a)(2), unless NASDAQ exercises its discretion to extend this 10-day period pursuant to Listing Rule 5810(c)(3)(F). If Sunesis is not in compliance following the additional 180-day period, NASDAQ will notify Sunesis that its common stock is subject to delisting. At that time, Sunesis may appeal to a NASDAQ Hearings Panel ("NASDAQ Panel"), and Sunesis would remain listed pending such NASDAQ Panel's decision following a hearing. Sunesis cannot provide any assurances that a NASDAQ Panel will allow Sunesis to remain listed in the event of any appeal.

Der Kurs lag bei 0,53 USD als in #1 zitiert die Meldung "Sunesis Presents Positive Phase 2 Clinical Data of Voreloxin in Acute Myeloid Leukemia at the American Society of Hematology 2009 Annual Meeting (Dec/07/09)" herauskam.

      01.12.09: 0,32 USD
      02.12.09: 0,36 USD
      03.12.09: 0,44 USD
      04.12.09: 0,42 USD
      07.12.09: 0,44 USD
      08.12.09: 0,53 USD Conference Call
      09.12.09: 0,60 USD
      10.12.09: 1,39 USD !
      11.12.09: 1,72 USD !
      14.12.09: 2,09 USD !
      15.12.09: 1,75 USD
      16.12.09: 1,40 USD
      17.12.09: 1,60 USD
      18.12.09: 1,50 USD

      Der Kurs kam leider zurück:
      Jahreswechsel
      31.12.09: 1,09 USD

In #94 "Sunesis Announces Data From Phase 2 Clinical Program of Voreloxin in Acute Myeloid Leukemia Support Phase 3 Trial in Relapsed or Refractory Patients / Updated, Positive Phase 2 Data in AML and Ovarian Cancer Presented at the ASCO 2010 Annual Meeting" wurde der Conference Call für den 08.06. ausgerufen.
      04.06.10: 0,78 USD
      07.06.10: 0,68 USD
      08.06.10: 0,61 USD Conference call
      09.06.10: 0,54 USD
      10.06.10: 0,54 USD
      11.06.10: 0,52 USD

Im Thread fehlte der Vollzug einer 2009 plazierten Kapitalerhöhung "Sunesis Closes $28.5 Million Final Tranche of 2009 Private Placement"
"(06/30/10) - Sunesis Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (...) today announced that, in a final closing under a securities purchase agreement entered into on March 31, 2009 with a group of accredited investors, Sunesis has sold $28.5 million of common stock at a price of $0.275 per share. "
      30.06.10: 0,47 USD
      01.07.10: 0,45 USD

Anders bei der in #107 beschriebenen jüngsten Kapitalerhöhung "Sunesis Prices $15.5 Million Offering (Oct 01, 2010)".
"approximately 44.1 million units, each consisting of one share of its common stock and a warrant to purchase 0.5 of a share of its common stock, at a public offering price of $0.35 per unit"

"The NASDAQ Stock Market notifying Sunesis that it has been granted (...) until March 28, 2011, to regain compliance with the $1.00 per share minimum bid price rule for continued listing on The NASDAQ Capital Market".

SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, CA--(Marketwire - 12/21/10) - Sunesis Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (NASDAQ:SNSS - News) today announced that the first patient has been randomized and dosed with blinded study treatment in its pivotal Phase 3 VALOR trial of vosaroxin, the company's lead drug candidate, in combination with cytarabine in patients with first relapsed or refractory acute myeloid leukemia (AML). The VALOR trial is a multinational, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled, pivotal trial which is expected to enroll 450 evaluable patients at leading sites in the U.S., Canada, Europe, Australia and New Zealand.

"The initiation of VALOR marks the culmination of many years of work and is a gratifying moment for Sunesis in its ongoing efforts to develop a new therapeutic option for AML patients," stated Daniel Swisher, Chief Executive Officer of Sunesis. "AML is a challenging disease, especially for relapsed and refractory patients, yet in our robust Phase 2 program we have shown in this AML setting that vosaroxin plus a leading standard of care, cytarabine, exhibit a combination of efficacy and tolerability that has led to promising results. The support of key opinion leaders, top international trial sites, specialized service providers and a rigorously designed Phase 3 protocol should provide the VALOR trial with a strong foundation for operational success."

"Patients with relapsed or refractory AML have a poor prognosis and are often intolerant of or do not respond to currently available treatment options," said Farhad Ravandi, M.D., Associate Professor, Department of Leukemia, Division of Cancer Medicine, The University of Texas M. D. Anderson Cancer Center, and a principal investigator of VALOR. "Despite the unmet medical need, treatment standards have not appreciably changed in more than 30 years. Vosaroxin's differentiated treatment profile from the Phase 2 program is characterized by strong remission rates, low all-cause early mortality and long leukemia free survival, which have led to survival outcomes that compare favorably with published results for current treatment standards. The VALOR trial is a well designed, highly anticipated trial which should provide a clear understanding of vosaroxin's efficacy and safety profile when added to cytarabine in this disease setting."

Patients in the VALOR trial will be randomized one-to-one to receive in a blinded manner either vosaroxin or placebo on days one and four of each treatment cycle in combination with cytarabine daily for five days of each treatment cycle. The trial's primary endpoint is overall survival. The VALOR trial employs an adaptive design that provides for a single interim analysis by an independent Data and Safety Monitoring Board (DSMB) which will meet to examine pre-specified efficacy and safety data sets and decide whether to implement a one-time sample size adjustment of 225 additional evaluable patients to maintain adequate power across a broad range of clinically meaningful and statistically significant survival outcomes. The interim analysis by the DSMB is expected to take place in mid-2012. For more information on VALOR please visit www.valortrial.com.

      About VALOR

VALOR is a Phase 3, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled, pivotal trial in patients with first relapsed or refractory AML. The trial is expected to enroll 450 evaluable patients at leading sites in the U.S., Canada, Europe, Australia and New Zealand. VALOR is currently open for enrollment and patients will be randomized one-to-one to receive either vosaroxin on days one and four in combination with cytarabine daily for five days, or placebo in combination with cytarabine. Additionally, the VALOR trial employs an innovative, adaptive trial design that allows for a one-time sample size adjustment by the DSMB at the interim analysis to maintain adequate power across a broad range of clinically meaningful and statistically significant survival outcomes. The trial's primary endpoint is overall survival. For more information on VALOR please visit www.valortrial.com.

      About Vosaroxin

Vosaroxin, formerly known as voreloxin, is a first-in-class anticancer quinolone derivative, or AQD, a class of compounds that has not been used previously for the treatment of cancer. Vosaroxin both intercalates DNA and inhibits topoisomerase II, resulting in replication-dependent, site-selective DNA damage, G2 arrest and apoptosis. Sunesis is currently enrolling patients in the VALOR trial, a multinational, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled, pivotal Phase 3 clinical trial of vosaroxin in combination with cytarabine in a relapsed/refractory AML patient population.

      About Acute Myeloid Leukemia

AML is a rapidly progressing cancer of the blood characterized by the uncontrolled proliferation of immature blast cells in the bone marrow. The American Cancer Society estimates that 12,330 new cases of AML will be diagnosed and approximately 9,000 deaths from AML will occur in the U.S. in 2010. Additionally, it is estimated that prevalence of AML is approximately 25,000 in the U.S.

Antwort auf Beitrag Nr.: 43.136.327 von BELGIEN am 08.05.12 16:28:22Das ist ja so nicht ganz richtig.... :look:

Sunesis Pharma (SNSS) 5/7/12 pps: $2.58, Market cap: $120.80M

Sunesis is expected to present Phase 3 data on Vosaroxin at ASCO on June 4th, 2012.

Vosaroxin is designed for the treatment of Acute myeloid leukemia AML. To combine with presenting at ASCO, Sunesis just announced on May 3rd that the European Commission has granted orphan drug designation to Vosaroxin. According to the CEO Daniel Swisher, there have been no new drugs to treat this disease in 30 years. If data for Vosaroxin holds up going through Phase III trials, the standard of care for patients who relapse from this form of Leukemia will change drastically.

With no competing drugs, the company estimates potential Vosaroxin sales, if approved, could range from $400-$600 million annually. I see Sunesis making a move to near $3 a share soon. Look for my feature article on Sunesis to be released today or tomorrow on SA and other sites. The revelation of phase 3 data points tend to move small cap bio pharma stocks higher than let's say, the revelation of phase 2 data points. This is why I am playing this one; notwithstanding, I think this stock has a great shot at being a multi bagger in the next 1 to 3 years, and Sunesis reminds me of Ariad a bit when Ariad was trading near the current Sunesis stock.

Sunesis Pharmaceuticals to Implement One-Time Sample Size Increase to Phase 3 VALOR Trial in AML

      Sep 11, 2012 (GlobeNewswire via COMTEX) --

DSMB Recommends Increase Following Single, Pre-Planned Interim Efficacy
and Safety Analysis of VALOR; Enrollment Completion Expected in 2013

DSMB Recommendation Triggers $25.0 Million Investment in Sunesis from
      Royalty Pharma

Sunesis to Host Conference Call Today at 9:00 AM Eastern Time

SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, Calif., Sept. 11, 2012 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Sunesis Pharmaceuticals, Inc. SNSS-22.35% today announced that it will implement a one-time, 225-patient sample size increase to its Phase 3 VALOR trial of vosaroxin in acute myeloid leukemia (AML), bringing target enrollment to 675 patients. This is in response to the recommendation of the trial's independent Data and Safety Monitoring Board (DSMB) following their completion yesterday of a single, pre-planned interim analysis of unblinded efficacy and safety data sets from VALOR.

VALOR is a Phase 3, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled, pivotal trial of vosaroxin in patients with first relapsed or refractory AML. The pre-planned sample size increase of 225 additional patients is designed to maintain adequate statistical power over a broader range of survival outcomes. With the revised target sample size of 675 patients, Sunesis anticipates full enrollment of VALOR in 2013, with unblinding of the trial expected in the first half of 2014 upon reaching 562 events and final database lock. The DSMB recommendation also triggers Royalty Pharma's obligation to invest $25.0 million in Sunesis.

"The completion of VALOR's interim analysis is an important milestone for Sunesis," said Daniel Swisher, Chief Executive Officer of Sunesis. "In light of the design of VALOR, the DSMB's recommendation that we implement a one-time, 225-patient sample size increase is a promising development. We thank the DSMB for their comprehensive analysis, and trial investigators for their continued support of VALOR, which has now enrolled 412 patients. Importantly, we are pleased that we have committed funding that will allow us to implement this enrollment expansion and complete the pivotal trial in AML."

Sunesis' management and staff, VALOR clinical investigators, including members of the Study Steering Committee, and Royalty Pharma remain blinded to the interim trial data and analysis.

Royalty Pharma's $25.0 million investment is made pursuant to the terms of an agreement with Sunesis announced March 29, 2012. In exchange for their investment, Royalty Pharma will receive a 6.75% royalty on future net sales of vosaroxin and warrants to purchase Sunesis common stock.
