Grange Resources scraps pallet plant plan at Port Latta

It is reported that the owner of Savage River's iron ore mine has shelved plans to build a AUD 900 million pellet plant at Port Latta.
As per report, Mr Wayne Bould COO of Grange Resources confirmed that the North-West proposal had been culled. He told “As much as we wanted to, we could not make the numbers stack up.”
Mr Bould said he was disappointed that Grange Resources, the North-West's biggest employer with more than 600 employees, had not been contacted by any candidates or political party during the state election to discuss its business plans or strategies for the future.
Mr Bould said the short-term outlook for Grange Resources and its Tasmanian mine and processing facilities was very good. He said “We are seeing much better prices and the market for Savage River's iron ore pellets is now bigger and better and we're getting calls every day looking for product.”
A feasibility study done after Grange Resources merged with Australian Bulk Minerals last year showed it would be cheaper to build a new mill on a Greenfield site offshore than rebuild at Port Latta.
Savage River produces 2.6 million tonnes of blast furnace pellets and concentrate each year with a potential to expand to 2.9 million tonnes.
