Siehe:
Apache, the second-largest U.S. independent oil and natural-gas producer by market value, will operate the Mbawa well in the L8 Block. The Deepsea Metro 1 rig will take about two months to drill to the 3,250-meter (10,663-foot) target depth at a cost of more than $60 million. The partners may follow up with the Tai well, which could hold 500 million barrels of oil resources, according to Apache.

und:
Apache has identified the Tai prospect as an exploration follow-up if the Mbawa 1 well proves successful.

In addition to psi81's comments about oil. Geologists believed that only Jurrasic intervals were viable oil source rocks off East Africa. It was not until the Cretaceous oil shows in Maridadi-1B that geologists began to think differently. If they do get to the Jurrasic carbonates it could get very interesting...
Could be a classic case of old school vs new school!
..............
Alles IMHO. Berichtigung erbeten!

Buckle up! Pancontinental has hit gas
Pancontinental (PCL) has probably caused a lot of spinning heads in the last week.
What looked to me to be a fairly neutral announcement last Monday saw the price fall from 16.5 to 11.5c.
Then this morning it announced that the drilling had intersected 52 net metres of gas play. This sent the price soaring 91% today, on record volume, to 22 cents!
I did warn this was a risky stock and that the price could rise or fall rapidly. I just didn't expect it to do both in the space of a week!
Apache, who is operating the well, may have been targeting oil, but the important point here is that they have found hydrocarbons.
Apache are not short of a few bucks, and are highly committed to this project. It is their exposure to the East African gas rush. And even a sniff of hydrocarbons, and I'd expect them to go to town, sticking enough holes into Mbawa to make it resemble a pincushion. So for them to have 52 metres of gas play is very, very exciting and explains why the stock has had such a good day.
There's been a lot of attention coming from the UK markets, where some investors have made over 1000% from similar East African story, Cove Energy (LON:COV). So I'd expect more buying in the coming days once the European markets catch onto the story.
It has been an 'eventful' week for Pancontinental! And as the icing on the cake, it has also been admitted to the ASX300. Furthermore, the well is not complete yet, and we should have some news on a deeper target in the next week or so.

This is an important finding as some geologists thought that only Jurassic or older rocks were viable oil source rocks.

- Possible Mid Jurassic carbonate buildup on 3D data
