      Bauen u.a. offshore-Rigs und melden derzeit ienen Auftrag nach dem anderen;

      Written by Bloomberg
      Tuesday, 03 August 2010 18:03

Sembcorp Marine, the world’s second-biggest oil-rig maker, said profit in the second quarter climbed 28%, helped by increased production of more offshore drilling structures.

Net income rose to $176.1 million, or 8.48 cents a share, compared with $138.1 million, or 6.7 cents, a year earlier, the Singapore-based company said today in a statement. Sales were $1.1 billion.

The rig-maker plans to build new yards in Singapore and Brazil in anticipation of a revival in demand after its orderbook dropped in 2009 for the first time in at least six years. Economic growth and depleting oil reserves at existing fields are encouraging companies, including Royal Dutch Shell Plc and Total SA, to explore new fields in deeper waters.

Operating profit, or sales minus the cost of goods sold and administrative expenses, increased 21% to $202.3 million.

Sembcorp Marine dropped 1% to close at $4.04 in Singapore trading before the earnings announcement.

Sembcorp Marine runs shipyards in Singapore, China, Brazil and Indonesia. The company plans to build new yards as Petroleo Brasileiro SA, Brazil’s state-controlled oil company, plans to invest US$224 billion ($303 billion) through 2014 to develop offshore fields to increase production.

Sembcorp Marine’s orderbook stood at $4.3 billion. The company said it has bid for seven drill ships and two semi- submersible rigs in Brazil, it said.

Singapore, October 5, 2010: Sembcorp Marine's subsidiary PPL Shipyard
has secured two turnkey contracts with a combined value up to US$364
million to build two jack-up rigs with options for another three jack-up rigs from
Atwood Oceanics Pacific Limited ("AOPL"), a wholly-owned subsidiary of
      Atwood Oceanics Inc.
Scheduled for delivery in September 30 and December 31 of 2012, the jackup
rigs will be built based on PPL Shipyard's latest proprietary design, the
Pacific Class 400. These new rigs will be capable of operating in deeper
waters of 400 feet and equipped with offline handling features. They will have
accommodation for 150 men as compared with 120 men in the Pacific Class
      375 jack-up rigs.
With the contract value of each of the first two jack-up rigs ranging up to
US$182 million and up to approximately US$200 million for each of the three
options, the total estimated value of the five jack-up rigs, including options for
three units, will be slightly below US$1 billion.
Dr Benety Chang, Deputy Chairman of PPL Shipyard said "We are pleased
that Atwood Oceanics has chosen PPL's Pacific Class 400 design to be part
of their fleet expansion programme. The confidence in this rig design and its
capabilities could lead to more of such orders for our proprietary design.”
Rob Saltiel, President and CEO of Atwood Oceanics, Inc., commented “We
look forward to expanding our high-specification jack-up fleet with these
Pacific Class 400 drilling rigs. This jack-up design combines excellent
capability, efficiency and flexibility that will allow Atwood to better serve our
clients. PPL Shipyard has an excellent reputation for quality and
responsiveness, and we expect they will be a great partner for Atwood in this
      strategic endeavor."

SembCorp Marine (S51.SG) likely to rise in afternoon vs +0.9% at $4.49 at lunch break, on news Jurong Shipyard unit secures US$384 million ($501 million) contract to build two jack-up rigs with options for another four jack-ups from Seadrill (SDRL.OS); if options exercised, contract could be worth over US$1 billion in total, says Dow Jones.

SembMarine says contract its largest rig order to-date. UBS, which has Buy rating, $5.00 target, says “the stars are aligned for a near-term share price rally. Liquidity is abundant and we anticipate positive order momentum in the very near term.”

Adds, pace of new orders announced in last 30 days (last week both Jurong, Sembawang yards reported contract wins) has surprised market significantly; within very short span of time, estimated 2011E earnings backed by order book rose from 80% to 92%. “

If SMM is able to confirm new orders in early 2011, these jobs could commence profit recognition within the year, providing further avenues for consensus earnings upgrades.” Raises 2011 net profit estimates by 10%, about 7% ahead of consensus. Stock may test February 2008 peak of $4.73.

Sembcorp Marine, Engie in LNG-to-power MOU

Singapore-based Sembcorp Marine and Engie of France signed a memorandum of understanding to cooperate in the development and deployment of the Gravifloat technology for LNG-to-Power near-shore terminals.

The partnership would focus on small LNG power businesses with 10 MW to 300 MW capacities, Sembcorp Marine said in its statement on Monday.

Gravifloat solutions are steel-based modularised and floatable structures fixed to the seabed at site. As alternatives to existing onshore and floating LNG facilities, these structures are re-floatable and can be redeployed to another location.

The modules are constructed and tested at Sembcorp Marine’s shipyards.

Since 2015, Sembcorp Marine and Engie have been discussing a Gravifloat 3-in-1 integrated solution for near-shore receiving, storage and regasification of LNG as well as power generation.

The parties intend to develop and promote this 3-in-1 solution to meet the needs of emerging markets, as well as cooperating on targeted projects.

Sembcorp Marine boast strong LNG repair activity in 2017

Singapore-based Sembcorp Marine said its liquefied natural gas (LNG) carrier repair business remained ‘top of the global list’.

The company’s president and CEO Wong Weng Sun, during the full year results briefing, said the yard repaired and upgraded a total of 34 LNG ships during 2017, more than any other yard in the world.

According to the CEO, this is also the fifth time the company had been at the top of the global list for the amount of repaired LNG carriers during a year.

“We have continuously enhanced and broadened our LNG engineering solutions, repair and upgrade capabilities and facilities,” he said.

He added that the demand for repairs and upgrades, especially for LNG carriers and cruise ships remains strong.

Regulations on ballast water treatment requirements coming into force in the foreseeable future will further underpin the potential of this segment.

However, due to new orders flow remaining weak during the year, net profit plunged from $79 million in the financial year 2016 to $14 million in FY 2017.

Group revenue was $2.39 billion, compared with $3.54 billion in FY 2016, the report shows.
