Deal Represents Goldwind's Largest U.S. Project

CHICAGO, May 17, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Goldwind Americas, a subsidiary of Xinjiang Goldwind Science & Technology Co., Ltd. (Shenzhen Stock Exchange: 002202, the Stock Exchange of Hong Kong Limited: 2208), announced today that it has signed an agreement with Renewable Energy Systems Americas Inc. (RES) to acquire the 160 MW Rattlesnake Wind Project located in McCulloch County, Texas. Once operational, the project will become Goldwind's largest U.S. wind project to date.
"This investment in the Rattlesnake Wind Project highlights our long-term commitment to the U.S. wind market and represents our first step of a five-year growth strategy to capitalize on the extension of the production tax credit," said David Halligan, Chief Executive Officer of Goldwind Americas.
The Rattlesnake Wind Project, located approximately 125 miles northwest of Austin, will utilize 64 Goldwind 2.5 MW Permanent Magnet Direct-Drive (PMDD) wind turbines. The 160 MW Rattlesnake Wind Project represents the first phase of an expected 300 MW wind project, which was developed and will be constructed under a Balance of Plant agreement by RES.
"We are proud to partner with RES, a leading renewable energy developer and constructor, on our first project together," said Mr. Halligan.
"The Rattlesnake Wind Project will be a valuable asset benefitting Texas' electricity consumers, further evidence that the state's encouragement of diverse generation resources is succeeding," stated Glen Davis, RES' President and CEO, Americas. Goldwind Capital, a subsidiary of Xinjiang Goldwind Science & Technology Co., Ltd., provided bridge financing to acquire the project and is in the process of arranging a financing package in partnership with top-tier financial institutions that will include construction and tax equity financing and a long-term ERCOT fixed price hedge for power production.

April 28 (SeeNews) - Chinese wind turbine maker Xinjiang Goldwind Science & Technology (HKG:2208) expects its net profit for the first half of 2016 to increase due to higher sales.
The company reported today a net profit attributable to shareholders of CNY 370.5 million (USD 57m/EUR 50m) for the first quarter of 2016, a rise of 48.94%
year-on-year. Diluted earnings per share stood at CNY 0.1354.Goldwind guided for an increase in first-half net profit of up to 50%
, or to as much as CNY 1.868 million.Revenues in January-March grew by 56.12% to CNY 3.98 billion thanks to higher sales volume of wind turbine generators. At the end of the quarter the company had 7.74 GW of outstanding orders and 4.35 GW of projects for which it is yet to sign firm contracts.
:According to Bloomberg New Energy Finance (BNEF), Goldwind was the number-one onshore wind turbine supplier globally with 7.8 GW of capacity commissioned in 2015.

The company is still testing the operation of the larger turbine in Dafeng in China's eastern province of Jiangsu and is expected to roll out a second generation model at the end of the year, Wu Kai, general manager of Goldwind's research and development center, said in an interview in Beijing.
Goldwind's push in offshore wind underscores the ambitions of a company that emerged last year as a world leader in turbine technology and one of China's few companies with a global footprint. The focus on large turbines places Goldwind firmly at the most challenging end of the market.
Urumqi, Xinjiang-based Goldwind has adopted an attitude of "active preparation but cautious implementation" for offshore wind, said Mr Wu, pointing to the risks and technical difficulties associated with the market.
At the end of 2015, China had about 900 megawatts of offshore wind capacity, far less than the 5,000 megawatts previously targeted, according to data compiled by Bloomberg.
Offshore turbines represented a fraction of China's 129 gigawatts of land-based wind turbines last year, according to data from the National Energy Administration.
Most of China's coastal wind projects are currently near the shore, said Zhou Yiyi, a Shanghai-based analyst at Bloomberg New Energy Finance.
Development of the domestic offshore wind market is set to advance this year as some projects are completed, said Goldwind's Mr Wu.
Indeed, total offshore wind capacity in China may more than double this year from 2015, BNEF forecasts.
Goldwind is also upgrading its onshore products, said Mr Wu. The growth of the company's 2-megawatt land-based turbines is currently advancing as developers seek to build more new projects in the south to avoid grid congestion, he said.
