Antwort auf Beitrag Nr.: 74.399.144 von Miraflor am 29.08.23 17:57:59In Bezug auf Kupferproduktion in Peru:
Peru copper production rises 17.7% y/y in July
Copper production in Peru rose 17.7% year-over-year in July, the Andean country’s ministry of energy and mines said on Thursday, climbing to an output of 229,728 metric tons of the red metal in the month.
The rise is thanks to the “optimal performance” of miner Marcobre, controlled by Peru’s Minsur and Chile’s Copec; as well as the Cerro Verde mine, which is operated by Freeport-McMoRan, the ministry said in a statement.
From January to July, copper production rose 19.8% compared to the year-earlier period, the ministry added.
Peru is the world’s second-largest copper producer, though output saw a hit at the beginning of the year as anti-government protests roiled the nation.
The Peruvian government, which expects copper production this year to reach 2.8 million metric tons, has redoubled efforts to boost mining after a May report found the Democratic Republic of Congo could overtake Peru in the next few years.

Decarbonisation in mining still a long way off
LONDON (Reuters) - A lack of consistent data to measure emissions down the supply chain of mining companies and through to customers makes it difficult to monitor and meet targets for decarbonising the sector, industry executives and investors said on Thursday. The mining industry is a key focus for policymakers and investors because it provides the critical raw materials needed for electric vehicles and renewable energy infrastructure, but is also responsible for 4% to 7% of greenhouse-gas (GHG) global emissions.
Virginia Dundas, acting chief sustainability officer at Orsted (CSE:ORSTED), the world's largest offshore wind farm developer, said she sees different levels of transparency from suppliers of the metals her company needs to build things like turbines.
....
The International Council on Mining and Metals , whose members include around 25 mining companies, on Thursday published guidance for all mining companies on how to account and report their Scope 3 - or indirect - emissions "to try and answer the problem of patchy data to make companies report consistently," its CEO Rohitesh Dhawan said at the conference.
Scope 1 refers to a company's direct emissions, Scope 2 to indirect emissions from purchased energy while Scope 3 refers to all other indirect emissions, for example from a company's third-party suppliers.
Mining companies have set targets to decarbonise and mostly aim to reach net zero by 2040 and 2050, but some are struggling to keep up. The world's second largest miner Rio Tinto (NYSE:RIO) said in July that it would miss its 2025 target unless it resorted to buying carbon offsets - credits to reduce emissions through projects such as tree planting.
"You can publish your data on Scope 3, but where investors have clear expectations is to see the companies' targets aligned to net zero across Scope 1, 2 and 3...setting the targets short, medium and long term is absolutely critical to know that the company is walking down that path," said Adam Matthews, chief responsible investment officer for the Church of England Pensions Board, which invests in mining companies.

Sweden's H2 Green Steel raises $1.6 bln for Boden plant
OSLO, Sept 7 (Reuters) - H2 Green Steel has raised equity funding of about 1.5 billion euros ($1.6 billion) to build the world's first large-scale green steel plant, the Swedish steel company said on Thursday, in line with plans presented in April. The plant in the northern town of Boden will use hydrogen produced from renewable electricity - rather than coal - to deliver steel in a process emitting as much as 95% less CO2 than steel produced with traditional blast furnace technology, the company says.
...
Henriksson said that traditional steel production emits about 2 tonnes of CO2 per ton of steel compared with H2 Green Steel's predicted 200 kilograms of CO2 per ton.
Last month H2 Green Steel announced that it had signed multi-year deals with miners Rio Tinto (RIO.AX) and Vale (VALE3.SA) for the supply of iron ore pellets from Canada and Brazil.
