Puntland to Export Oil by December 2012
During an open meeting with members of the Puntland Diaspora Forum in Perth, Australia, Range Resources Managing Director Peter Landau stated to the audience of several dozen that Puntland would be exporting oil by December 2012 upon completion of testing in August.
Landau and a Somali support staff highlighted the activities of Range Resources to date. Among the discussed issues was the upcoming flow testing on the Dharoor wells and the spudding of the first well in Nugaal this September.
Range Resources reiterated its support for the Puntland community at home, citing its $250,000 contribution to an air strip in Garowe and $5 Million pledge to the repair and upgrade of another airport in the region.

Puntland
MM: Could you please remind us of the significance of the location of the drill sites at Shabeel-1 and Shabeel North in relation to the drill site at Darin-1, drilled in 1958? Specifically what might the position of these sites tell us about a potential oil basin in Dharoor?
GB: The Darin well was located on the rift shoulder, outside the main area of the basin but did have oil shows indicating a valid source "kitchen". The Shabeel wells are the first wells drilled in the basin proper.
MM: There has been much discussion about the news ‘flowing’ from Shabeel-1 drilling. Can you outline, in your own terms, how you feel about the results from Shabeel-1 that have been announced to date?
GB: We are very pleased with the results of Shabeel-1. Shabeel North looks like an excellent prospect now given what we know from Shabeel-1. It contained a series of small, complicated faults and still found reservoir rock and hydrocarbons (a working petroleum system). The operator is confident that they can flow oil from the 12 – 20m pay zone and as a result we hope to be able to announce to the market that we have a commercial discovery at Shabeel-1.
Comparatively, Shabeel North is unbroken and cleaner and to a large extent, de-risked. It looks like a better seal (broader & less faulted), which means it has the ability to trap a much larger reservoir. Shabeel North is down dip (up thrown) and closer to the center of the basin (the “boil” or the “kitchen” if you will) compared to Shabeel-1. Between Darin-1 (thin rocks, just out of the basin but oil bearing) and Shabeel-1, we’ve bracketed both margins and are now simply moving closer to the axis of the basin. We have got clastics, we’ve got sandstones, we’ve got trap...we really are quite hopeful about this well.
MM: The big question on everyone’s mind at the moment is whether or not the discovery at Shabeel-1 will be commercial? Obviously testing still needs to be conducted but can you please shed further light on the testing process and what this actually involves? Also can you advise, with regard to deployment of the correct testing gear, when you expect it to be available for testing and the likely timeframes we can now expect for results from both Shabeel-1 and Shabeel North?
GB: To begin with in February we mobilized a full test package to the wellsite to conduct an open hole test on Shabeel-1 on the primary objective (the Lower Cretaceous Qishn sands).
As it turned out, these sands did not warrant testing (hence no open hole test), but we did see the announced oil-bearing sands in the Jesomma. These are now behind casing so we cannot test open hole and we must perforate the casing to testthese sands. We therefore needed perforating guns, shaped charges and detonators which should be on location soon.
For Shabeel North, we will be able to test any Jesomma oil sands in the open hole as was originally planned. The drill program for Shabeel North is 45 – 60 days (inc. testing) and then we will move back to Shabeel-1 to test that zone.

Kismayo assault set for August
The Kenyan army would like to wrest the Somalian port of Kismayo from the Al Shabaab Islamist militia by August, just before the mandate of the Transitional Federal Government (TFG) in Mogadishu comes to an end. Responding to a news story published in The Indian Ocean Newsletter (ION 1333), a senior Kenyan officer who wanted to remain anonymous recognised that Ethiopia had applied pressure for the assault on Kismayo to be launched soon. But he stated that the Kenyan military high command would be applying its own strategy to take this port, which has become its main objective since it took Afmadow. Preparations are under way to make the attack possible within the next two months. The Kenyan soldiers in Somalia will be relieved by new units in June, the Kenyan air force has bombed Al Shabaab positions coupled with shelling of the same positions by Kenyan navy boats. The Kenyan army will then evaluate its intelligence on the Al Shabaab forces before deciding on the assault. Furthermore, the Kenyan high command wants to avoid a replay in Kismayo of what had happened in Mogadishu, when chaos and violence broke out after the end of combat. It therefore asked the Nairobi government no negotiate with the African Union, the United States and the European Union (EU) for aid to maintain a peace-keeping force. Failing which, the Kenyan High Command considers it would be difficult for the African Union mission in Somalia (Amisom) to keep peace in this port, even after the Islamist forces have been ousted.

Und nochmal zum Thema:
"Africa Oil Corp. (CVE:AOI) (PINK:AOIFF) stock price got affect by a dispute between the local authorities concerning the distribution of would be royalties from the company's oil sales.
AOI share price collapsed nearly 15% in what seems to be a slightly exaggerated panic. The trading volume wasn't too significant though at 2.2 million, which was only slightly above the daily average of 1.7 million.
Still, troublesome news were out forcing the price down and the bearish effect could continue until the matter is resolved. On June 13 it was disclosed that a local authority in Turkana, Kenya, wants to force a stop of exploration activities on AOI's 50% owned Ngamia-1 well until the local district is provided with a larger portion of future oil revenues.
The municipal council requires at least 25% of the proceeds. The district is currently promised only 15%.
The news originally surfaced in a Nairobi Star newspaper. There wasn't any official press release from Africa Oil, meaning the activities around Ngamia-1 were likely not affected and the dispute between the local and central governments might have no effect on the company's exploration efforts at this moment."
