Ghana though is a signatory to the United Nations Convention Against Bribery and Corruption the canker has taken root in business, and government sector. The investigations conducted by this reporter (coming soo) which will blow your mind indicates how some members of Ghana Bar Association and reputable practicing lawyers were aiding corruption and encouraging foreign companies to bribe ministers and public officials to have business advantage over others.
And any company that failed to compromise, how it is frustrated and sent packaging out of Ghana. In this story you see why things are not changing in Ghana and development remain as it was before 1957. We will play back to you how a foreign company’s management was asked by their local lawyer to dash out 10% of the company’s shares to him to use to bribe Government ministers and public officials and promises to hold trust for them before a business certificate was granted to them.
He is a member of the Ghana Bar Association and had represented and won several cases in court on behalf of his clients. But in 2011, complacency sets in and took control of his profession when the desire to become rich overrides the ethics of his profession. He had a sound of “Cofie” in his name.
He was contacted by a foreign mining company to guide it through legal processes of registering a company in Ghana. This company needed a legal document to prospect for precious metals in Ghana. However, this lawyer who is said to have fronted for many foreign companies to have their business certificates to commerce business operations in Ghana is among the alliance of corrupt government and public officials.
His confession and testimonies of how corruption works and who benefits from these corrupt deals and sharing formula used. As mandated he is supposed to help fight corruption, and injustices but as it stands now, he rather aid these evil things.
With three month investigations, the Enquirer is ready to bring to you these lawyer and his cohorts in the corruption deal. By the end, you will see who his friends are, the form of their businesses, and how much dollars they earn, the companies that compromised and accepted their new form of business.
