      Roth starts Intellipharmaceutics at buy

Roth Capital Partners has initiated coverage of Intellipharmaceutics (NASDAQ:IPCI; TSX:I) with a “buy” rating and 12-month price target of $5.25, saying the emerging generics company could launch four new products in the coming 12-to-18 months.

“We believe that this momentum could unlock value for this under covered stock,” writes analyst Scott Henry. The stock closed at $2.97 on Wednesday.

Intellipharmaceutics’ four upcoming product launches include generics of Focalin XR, Effexor XR, Protonix, and Glucophage XR. The lead product, Focalin XR for attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, is partnered with generic leader Par Pharmaceuticals.

“This product pipeline produces branded revenue near $5 billion and we believe that these generic offerings could produce near $100 million in end-user revenue potential for Intellipharmaceutics,” Mr. Henry points out.

He figures product launches could boost revenue from about $1 million in 2011 to nearly $20 million in 2013, with the company crossing over into profitability in the fourth quarter of 2012. For 2013, he predicts earnings per share of 30 cents.

Intellipharmaceutics also has an “entrant in the high-growth area of abuse-resistant opioids, which could be a multi-billion dollar market,” Mr. Henry said. “Although early, this gives investors another way to win, in our opinion.”

      http://adhd.emedtv.com/focalin-xr/generic-focalin-xr.html

"According to Wolters Kluwer Health, sales of Focalin XR® in the U.S. were approximately US$545 million for the 12 months ending February 2012."

Celgene, Novartis, Elan Corporation plc (ELN - Snapshot Report), Par Pharma and Intellipharmaceutics have settled the patent litigation concerning the 5, 10, 15 and 20 mg doses of generic version of Focalin XR. The generic companies expect the FDA to approve these generic versions by the fourth quarter of 2012.

......TORONTO, Nov. 27, 2012 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Intellipharmaceutics International Inc. (IPCI) (TSX:I), a pharmaceutical company specializing in the research, development and manufacture of novel and generic controlled-release and targeted-release oral solid dosage drugs, today announced successful results of an initial Phase I clinical trial of a controlled-release pregabalin formulation. We also announced an update to the 2012 goals of our Rexista(TM) abuse-deterrent formulations for oxycodone, and an update to the development activities of our generic version of Focalin XR(R).

Intellipharmaceutics successfully completed a Phase I clinical trial on our non-generic controlled-release formulation of pregabalin XR. This was the first bioavailability study of our controlled-release pregabalin versus Lyrica(R) (immediate release pregabalin) in 14 subjects. The results showed that our 150 mg pregabalin XR once-a-day dosage was comparable in bioavailability to Lyrica(R) 50 mg three-times-a-day dosage. Pregabalin is indicated for the management of neuropathic pain associated with diabetic peripheral neuropathy, postherpetic neuralgia, spinal cord injury and fibromyalgia. A controlled-release version of pregabalin should reduce the number of doses patients take, potentially improving patient compliance, and therefore potentially improving clinical outcomes. We plan to initiate additional Phase I clinical trials in 2013. According to Wolters Kluwer Health, U.S. sales for the 12 months ending October 2012 for Lyrica(R) (pregabalin capsules) were approximately $2.0 billion. There is no controlled-release formulation on the market at this time. There can be no assurance that additional clinical trials will meet our expectations, that we will be successful in submitting a new drug application ("NDA") 505(b)(2) filing with the United States Food and Drug Administration ("FDA"), that the FDA will approve this product candidate for sale in the U.S. market, or that it will ever be successfully commercialized.

"We are excited to announce the application of our Hypermatrix(TM) technology to another controlled- release product candidate," stated Dr. Isa Odidi, CEO and Co-Founder of Intellipharmaceutics. "Our formulation expertise continues to broaden the pipeline of Intellipharmaceutics' product candidates and expand our potential strategic commercial opportunities."

Intellipharmaceutics' previously announced development goals for 2012 included the completion of clinical batch manufacturing of Rexista(TM) oxycodone, and the initiation of Phase I studies of Rexista(TM) oxycodone. We are pleased to announce our manufacture of batches under current Good Manufacturing Practices has been concluded, and we are now going into clinical trials with the manufactured batches. Preliminary Phase I data from this trial is expected in early 2013. According to Wolters Kluwer Health, U.S. sales for the 12 months ending October 2012 for OxyContin(R) were approximately $2.4 billion.

"Our first proof-of-concept trial of Rexista(TM) oxycodone yielded bioavailability comparable to OxyContin(R). We plan to repeat these trials using our final formulation," commented Dr. Isa Odidi. "Addicts have found ways to abuse OxyContin(R). Our final Rexista(TM) oxycodone formula is designed to deter abuse from crushing, heating, dissolving and various extraction methods including dissolution in alcohol." There can be no assurance that clinical trials will meet our expectations, that we will be successful in submitting an NDA 505(b)(2) filing with the FDA, that the FDA will approve this product candidate for sale in the U.S. market, or that it will ever be successfully commercialized.

We continue to await receipt of potential regulatory approval from the FDA for our generic version of Focalin XR(R). No additional information has been requested by the FDA in the last three months with regards to the abbreviated new drug application ("ANDA") that is currently under review. Upon receipt of regulatory approval, we may commence marketing our generic versions of 5, 10, 15 and 20 mg Focalin XR(R) with our commercialization partner Par Pharmaceutical, Inc. According to Wolters Kluwer Health, U.S. sales for the 12 months ending October 2012 for Focalin XR(R) were approximately $601 million. There can be no assurance as to when, or if at all, the FDA will approve this product candidate for sale in the U.S. market, or that it will ever be successfully commercialized.

......TORONTO, July 15, 2013 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Intellipharmaceutics International Inc. (IPCI) (TSX:I), a pharmaceutical company specializing in the research, development and manufacture of novel and generic controlled-release and targeted-release oral solid dosage drugs, today announced an update on the following events in its Rexista(TM) oxycodone development program:

      1) The results of the current stage of development and physico-chemical tests to assess abuse-deterrent properties of its Rexista(TM) oxycodone

      2) Stability studies

      3) Successful Phase I clinical trial of its Rexista(TM) abuse-deterrent oxycodone, designed around its proprietary drug delivery system.

The physico-chemical tests were conducted on either an intact, pulverized or microwaved Rexista(TM) oxycodone and included:

      •Crush resistance studies conducted to evaluate the potential for abuse by chewing and licking of Rexista(TM) oxycodone;
      •Alcohol challenge studies conducted to evaluate the potential for "dose dumping" related to inadvertent or deliberate co-administration of Rexista(TM) oxycodone with alcohol;
      •Extraction studies in beverages, aqueous and non-aqueous media conducted to evaluate the potential for abuse related to oral administration of oxycodone obtained from dissolved Rexista(TM) oxycodone;
•Vaporization studies conducted to evaluate the potential for abuse related to insufflation of oxycodone obtained from heating of Rexista(TM) oxycodone; and
•Syringeability and injectability studies conducted to evaluate the potential for abuse related to intravenous administration of oxycodone obtained from dissolved, pulverized or microwaved Rexista(TM) oxycodone.
Results from such physico-chemical studies suggest that:

      •Rexista(TM) oxycodone should be difficult to abuse through crushing, chewing or licking;
      •Release of oxycodone from Rexista(TM) oxycodone is likely to be slower or not instantaneous in a range of beverages and solvents;
      •Rexista(TM) oxycodone should not "dose dump", or instantaneously release the entire dose of oxycodone, in the presence of ethanol over a range of concentrations;
      •Rexista(TM) oxycodone when pulverized and reduced to particles should be difficult and time consuming to syringe or inject in the form and volume suitable for intravenous administration;
      •Release of oxycodone should be insignificant or inefficient via heating and vaporization;
•Extraction of oxycodone from Rexista(TM) oxycodone which has been microwaved should be difficult or inefficient; and
•Rexista(TM) oxycodone when pulverized or reduced to particles should be difficult or inefficient to snort or inhale.
Results from accelerated stability studies indicate that Rexista(TM) oxycodone formulation is stable even at a high temperature (40*C) and relative humidity (70%) of storage.

The successful Phase I clinical trial, on twelve subjects in a fasted state, was a randomized, cross-over, comparative bioavailability clinical trial of Rexista(TM) oxycodone in comparison with OxyContin(R) (oxycodone hydrochloride controlled-release tablets). The outcome was positive, and showed that a single dose of our 40 mg Rexista(TM) oxycodone was bio-comparable to 40 mg OxyContin(R). The bioavailability of a single dose of Rexista(TM) oxycodone was equivalent to that of OxyContin(R), as measured by the respective areas under the curve ("AUCs"). The value for AUC essentially provides an estimation of total drug exposure by comparing ratios between Rexista(TM) oxycodone and OxyContin(R). On an industry measurement basis, these may be summarized as AUCt = 92% and AUCinf = 99%. These ratios were within 80% - 125% at the 90% confidence interval. We had previously reported a successful proof of concept Phase I study in which a single dose of a Rexista(TM) oxycodone 40 mg formulation was compared to OxyContin(R) 20 mg administered twice.

"The study suggests that utilization of the technology platform in our formulation of Rexista(TM) oxycodone does not interfere with the bioavailability of oxycodone, and promotes the stability of Rexista(TM) oxycodone," stated Dr. Isa Odidi, CEO and Co-Founder of Intellipharmaceutics. "We believe that our Rexista(TM) oxycodone is also sufficiently differentiated from currently available commercial oxycodone hydrochloride extended-release products, both in its design architecture and by having the release of the active substance, oxycodone, show a point of divergence in a dissolution profile and/or a bioavailability profile. This represents a point or segment in a plasma concentration timeline where the history of the dissolution or release rate changes from a higher release rate during onset of action to another lower rate during the phase of controlled release or sustained action."

We plan to seek a Special Protocol Assessment ("SPA") from the United States Food and Drug Administration ("FDA") to assist us in our plans to conduct a pivotal Phase III study in preparation for a New Drug Application ("NDA") 505(b)(2) application. The purpose of the SPA is to reach an agreement with the FDA regarding the study design, endpoints and statistical analyses needed to support approval of Rexista(TM) oxycodone prior to initiating the Phase III study. We will also be seeking a licensing partner for the Phase III studies. Intellipharmaceutics' previously announced development goals for 2013 included the completion of Phase I studies of Rexista(TM) oxycodone. We currently expect to carry out additional Phase I studies by the 4th quarter of 2013, and to initiate Phase III trials by the first half of 2014.

For the SPA, we intend to propose a pivotal Phase III study designed as a randomized, double-blinded, placebo-controlled, multi-center study to evaluate the analgesic efficacy of Rexista(TM) oxycodone in comparison to a placebo over a 12-week treatment period in patients having pain intensity scores corresponding to moderate-to-severe pain. There can be no assurance that additional clinical trials will meet the expected outcomes, or that we will be successful in submitting an NDA 505(b)(2) filing with the FDA, that the FDA will approve this product candidate for sale in the U.S. market, or that it will ever be successfully commercialized.

      About Rexista(TM) Oxycodone

Rexista(TM) oxycodone is an investigational drug, with a unique long acting oral formulation of oxycodone intended to treat moderate-to-severe pain when a continuous, around the clock opioid analgesic is needed for an extended period of time. Rexista(TM) oxycodone is designed to discourage common methods of tampering associated with misuse and abuse of such prescription opioid analgesic.

Intellipharmaceutics: A Bio-Better Generics Play On The Cutting Edge
Jul 17 2013, 10:19 | 6 commentsby: Josh Ginsburg | about: IPCI (IntelliPharmaCeutics Intl Inc (USA)) Disclosure: I have no positions in any stocks mentioned, and no plans to initiate any positions within the next 72 hours. I wrote this article myself, and it expresses my own opinions. I am not receiving compensation for it (other than from Seeking Alpha). I have no business relationship with any company whose stock is mentioned in this article. (More...)

Intellipharmaceutics (IPCI) is a biotech company specializing in the development and manufacturing of generic and novel drugs as well as proprietary drug delivery systems. The company's strategy in the pharmaceutical space is to turn currently marketed drugs that are developed for immediate release into patentable extended release drugs. The company is also currently working on new drug delivery technologies which could attain a large value if successfully brought to market. In this article we'll take a look at IPCI's current pipeline, platforms and finances to gauge where this company could be in the short to long term.

      The Pipeline

The most significant factor in regards to IPCI may be the fact that they currently have 8 FDA ANDA filings for generic once a day drugs. This to me is a clear sign that the company may be reaching a massive inflexion point in the short term. The total market size being entered by IPCI's 8 candidates is a combined estimated $4.7B. In terms of IPCI's clinical phase candidates the company has completed a Phase I study for their Pregabalin drug to treat neuropathic pain and has also completed a Phase I study for their Oxycodone extended release candidate. Below is a view of the company's current pipeline.

      Drug Delivery Technologies

In addition to IPCI's large pipeline, another venture the company is developing with a huge market potential is their drug abuse deterring technology platform, Rexista™. The function of this technology is to create drugs which cannot be abused by the user (crushing, shooting, dose dumping etc). The company's first drug being paired with this technology is its Oxycodone CR candidate approaching Phase II. Being that IPCI's technology platforms are novel with over 30+ patents pending and issued, I see an extremely large market opportunity for licensing and new improved drug candidates if the technology continues to show effectiveness. This past Monday IPCI gave an update on its Rexista™ development program and revealed that current results suggest that Rexista™ when paired with IPCI's Oxycodone does not interfere with the drugs bioavailability and promoted the drugs stability. The company stated that per these new results they now plan to seek "Special Protocol Assessment" from the FDA which would assist the company in conducting a Phase III trial and subsequent NDA filing. The company states they plan to seek a licensing partner for this Phase III trial and aim to initiate it in the first half of 2014.

      Financials + Analysts

Since IPCI is a development stage company with no products on the market yet, a history of negative earnings can be found on their balance sheet. The company's net loss so far this year for the 6 months ended May 31, 2013 has been $3.1M. As of this time the company also reported having $1.6M in cash and cash equivalents. Being that the company's current burn rate appears to be in the range of $1.5M per quarter there exists a possibility that the company may have to dilute via a new offering in the future. IPCI's management however is clearly looking to avoid diluting shareholders based on the fact that insiders currently own 35% of IPCI's shares. Furthermore, the company has done a good job at managing and conserving cash prior to catalysts in the past which gives me an added confidence in the chances of non-dilution. In terms of market sentiment there are currently 5 analysts covering IPCI with 2 "strong buy" recommendations and 3 "buy" recommendations with a $7 median price target. The most recent buy rating was given this week by Brean Capital LLC, with a price target of $7.00.

      Conclusion

In looking at IPCI's large pipeline of drugs close to approval, it is safe to say that even if a few drugs do not make it to market there is still a high chance of company profitability in time based on the sheer number of drugs up for review alone. While IPCI does not have any blockbuster candidates up for approval presently, the markets which the company is aiming to enter still hold significant value when combined. IPCI's recent Phase I completed Oxycodone CR candidate does however seem to hold potential blockbuster status if it continues to show safety and efficacy throughout future clinical trials. I would look for IPCI to be a strong up and coming player in the generic space which could give current generic pharmas a run for their money.

Shares of Intellipharmaceutics International Inc. (IPCI) gained momentum following the announcement of positive data from its Rexista oxycodone technology development program on Jul 15, 2013. Since the news, the shares gained 15%, ending the trading session on Friday (Jul 19) at $1.84.

On Jul 15, Intellipharmaceutics provided an update on its Rexista oxycodone development program which included – (i) results of the current stage of development and physico-chemical tests to assess abuse-deterrent properties of its Rexista oxycodone; (ii) stability studies and (iii) successful phase I study of its Rexista abuse-deterrent oxycodone, designed around its proprietary drug delivery system.

Results from the physico-chemical studies demonstrate that Rexista oxycodone when pulverized and reduced to particles should be difficult and time consuming to syringe or inject and also inefficient to snort or inhale. Rexista oxycodone should be difficult to abuse through crushing, chewing or licking; and should not "dose dump," or instantaneously release the entire dose of oxycodone, in the presence of ethanol over a range of concentrations. Release of oxycodone from Rexista oxycodone is likely to be slower or not instantaneous in a range of beverages and solvents; and it should be insignificant or inefficient via heating and vaporization.

Stability studies revealed that the Rexista oxycodone formulation was stable for storage even at a high temperature and relative humidity.

The data from the phase I study of Rexista oxycodone in comparison with Purdue Pharma LP’s OxyContin was positive. The data revealed that a single dose of 40 mg Rexista oxycodone was bio-comparable to 40 mg OxyContin. OxyContin is approved for the management of moderate to severe pain when a continuous, around-the-clock opioid analgesic is needed for an extended period of time.

Intellipharmaceutics intends to seek a Special Protocol Assessment from the FDA for assistance in conducting a pivotal phase III study on Rexista oxycodone. Intellipharmaceutics also has plans to look for a licensing partner for the phase III studies.

Additional phase I studies are expected by the fourth quarter of 2013, and Intellipharmaceutics expects to commence phase III studies by the first half of 2014.

Intellipharmaceutics carries a Zacks Rank #1 (Strong Buy).

TORONTO, Oct. 1, 2013 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Intellipharmaceutics International Inc. (IPCI) (TSX:I), a pharmaceutical company specializing in the research, development and manufacture of novel and generic controlled-release and targeted-release oral solid dosage drugs, today reported the results of operations for the three and nine months ended August 31, 2013. All dollar amounts referenced herein are in United States dollars unless otherwise noted.
The Company recorded a net loss for the three months ended August 31, 2013 of $2.0 million, or $0.10 per common share, compared with a net loss of $1.5 million, or $0.08 per common share, for the three months ended August 31, 2012. The net loss for the nine months ended August 31, 2013 was $5.2 million, or $0.27 per common share, compared with a net loss of $4.8 million, or $0.28 per common share, for the nine months ended August 31, 2012. The Company's increased net loss in the three months ended August 31, 2013, can be primarily attributed to the increase in fair value adjustment of derivative liability of $0.2 million compared to a decrease in fair value adjustment of derivative liability of $0.5 million in the comparable 2012 period. After adjusting for the fair value adjustment of derivative liability, the loss for the three months ended August 31, 2013 and 2012 were both $1.9 million and are discussed below.
Loss from operations for the three months ended August 31, 2013 was $1.7 million compared with $2.1 million for the three months ended August 31, 2012. Research and development expense for the three months ended August 31, 2013 decreased to $1.0 million compared to $1.3 million in the three months ended August 31, 2012. After adjusting for stock-based compensation expense, expenditures for research and development for the three months ended August 31, 2013 were lower by $0.2 million. Selling, general and administrative expenses for the three months ended August 31, 2013 were $0.6 million versus $0.7 million in the prior period. After adjusting for stock-based compensation expense, expenditures for selling, general and administrative expenses for the three months ended August 31, 2013 were lower by $0.1 million.
At August 31, 2013, Intellipharmaceutics' cash and cash equivalents totaled $2.4 million, compared with $0.5 million at November 30, 2012. The increase in cash during the three months ended August 31, 2013 is mainly due to the Company's underwritten public offering for gross proceeds of $3.1 million completed in July 2013.
For the three months ended August 31, 2013, net cash flows used in operating activities were $1.8 million compared to net cash flows used in operating activities for the three months ended August 31, 2012 of $1.6 million. The increase was due to the Generic Drug User Fee Amendments of 2012 foreign finished dosage form facility fee of $0.2 million paid in the quarter for the United States Food and Drug Administration's ("FDA") fiscal year 2013. For the three months ended August 31, 2013, net cash flows from financing activities of $2.6 million related to the Company's July 2013 public offering, discussed below.
      Quarterly Corporate Highlights
In July 2013, Intellipharmaceutics announced an update on its Rexista(TM) oxycodone development program. The results from physico-chemical tests to assess abuse-deterrent properties of its Rexista(TM) oxycodone suggested that intact, pulverized or microwaved product with or without various solvents and temperatures, will be difficult to extract through inhalation, injection, chewing or licking. Results of a successful Phase I clinical trial suggested that the technology in the Company's formulation of Rexista(TM) oxycodone does not interfere with the bioavailability of oxycodone as compared to OxyContin(R).
In July 2013, Intellipharmaceutics announced the closing of an underwritten public offering for gross proceeds of approximately $3.1 million at a price of $2.05 per unit. The Company sold units comprised of an aggregate of 1,500,000 common shares and warrants to purchase an additional 375,000 common shares. The warrants are exercisable for a term of five years and have an exercise price of $2.55 per common share. After placement agent fees and estimated offering expenses, the Company received net proceeds from the offering of approximately $2.5 million. Intellipharmaceutics intends to use the net proceeds for expenses related to bioequivalence studies and clinical trials for the advancement of product development, and for working capital, research and development and general corporate purposes.

Intellipharmaceutics / Par to Make Immediate Commercial Launch of 15 and 30 mg Generic Focalin XR(R)
      GlobeNewswire Intellipharmaceutics International Inc.
-- FDA Issues Final Approval of 15 mg, With 180 Days of Exclusivity, and 30 mg; and

      -- Tentative Approvals for the Company's 5, 10, 20 and 40 mg Strengths

TORONTO, Nov. 18, 2013 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Intellipharmaceutics International Inc. (IPCI) (TSX:I) ("Intellipharmaceutics" or the "Company") a pharmaceutical company specializing in the research, development and manufacture of novel and generic controlled-release and targeted-release oral solid dosage drugs today announced that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration ("FDA") has granted final approval of the Company's dexmethylphenidate hydrochloride extended-release capsules for the 15 and 30 mg strengths. Commercial sale of these strengths will be launched immediately by the Company's commercialization partner in the United States Par Pharmaceutical, Inc. ("Par").

As the first-filer for the drug product in the 15 mg strength, the Company will have 180 days of exclusivity of generic sales from the date of launch in the United States by its partner, Par.

The Company's 5, 10, 20 and 40 mg strengths were also tentatively FDA approved, subject to the right of another party or parties to 180 days of generic exclusivity from the date of first launch by such parties. Par intends to launch these strengths immediately upon the expiry of those exclusivity periods.

Dr. Isa Odidi, the CEO and a co-founder of Intellipharmaceutics, stated, "FDA approval of our application for a generic version of Focalin XR(R) is a major milestone for the Company in several respects. We believe that the approval represents a strong validation of our core drug development competence and our controlled-release delivery technologies. At the same time, we have demonstrated that we can partner with an established and well-regarded pharmaceutical company, in this case Par Pharmaceutical, to see a product through to commercialization in the United States. Finally, this generic product will generate our first revenues from commercial sales of a drug product in the United States and provide an enhanced level of financial flexibility to the Company."

Focalin XR(R), a drug used in the treatment of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, is marketed by Novartis Pharmaceuticals Corporation. According to Source Healthcare Analytics, sales for the 12 months ended October 2013 of Focalin XR(R) 15 and 30 mg, respectively, in the U.S. were approximately $136 million and $69 million (TRx MBS Dollars, which represents projected new and refilled prescriptions representing a standardized dollar metric based on manufacturer's published catalog or list prices to wholesalers, and does not represent actual transaction prices and does not include prompt pay or other discounts, rebates or reductions in price). The remaining 5, 10, 20, 25, 35 and 40 mg strengths represent sales of approximately $478 million (TRx MBS Dollars).

Strong Demand For Resistance Technology Bodes Well For IntelliPharmaCeutics
      Dec 17 2013, 12:06 | 7 comments | about: IPCI, includes: ZGNX
Disclosure: I have no positions in any stocks mentioned, and no plans to initiate any positions within the next 72 hours. (More...)

Since my last article on August 28th, IntelliPharmaceutics (IPCI) has done a round trip, including selling off precipitously from $5 to $3.50 in the last few weeks. In my view, the sell off has been driven by a misunderstanding of the ATM offering. The sell off also comes despite , positive development regarding Shionogi's interest in the resistant technology space, and the overall push towards more resistance technology (as evidenced by Zogenix). I will examine each of these points:

First, the ATM Offering: A Misunderstood Driver of Share Price Decline

An ATM offering is not a "fire sale" on the shares, but it sure seems that the market has interpreted the IPCI action here. Fundamentally, an ATM offering is a flexible equity offering that allows the company to sell shares from time-to-time by placing blocks of stock or discreetly feeding demand. Size, price and time are controlled by the company to issue equity at the best possible times and at the best possible prices.

An ATM is actually the least dilutive manner possible to raise equity capital since there is no discount to the market or to a VWAP, and it provides ongoing access to capital to match a Company's burn or simply to add to its cash balance to extend its "runway" while waiting for value creating catalysts. The company can execute every day, or opportunistically, and can choose to execute blocks or anonymously at the market.

Second, Shionogi Validation of Abuse-Resistant Technology Platform

As reported in BioCentury, Eaglet partnered with Shionogi (4507) on November 26th to develop and commercialize oral abuse-deterrent hydrocodone opioid products using Egalet's drug delivery technology. Egalet will receive $10 million up front, and Shionogi will purchase up to about $15 million in Egalet shares in a private placement concurrent with Egalet's IPO. Last month, the company filed to raise up to $69 million in an IPO. Shionogi will also fund all development costs and will have exclusive, worldwide rights to commercialize resulting products. Egalet is eligible to receive over $400 million in milestones, plus tiered royalties in the mid-single-digit to low-double digits.

Egalet's abuse-deterrent technology includes the use of a hard matrix that is difficult to crush, grind or dissolve and that controls the release of the API in the gastrointestinal tract. The company also is developing technology that surrounds the matrix with a water-impermeable, non-eroding, hard shell that creates a cylinder that can be used to tailor the release of the API and makes the tablet more difficult to crush or grind. Egalet has two Phase I oral opioid products already in its pipeline. In September, the company announced it would soon begin a Phase III trial for Egalet 001, with plans to submit an NDA in the fourth quarter of 2014.

Why the Rexista Platform is Comparable to Egalet

Rexista is a novel abuse resistant drug delivery platform which is in clinical development. It is a unique dosage form for Oxycontin (which had $2.4b in US sales), and protects against intentional or unintentional dose dumping (if tablet crushed or taken with alcohol).

In its July 15th press release, IPCI disclosed that it ended the Phase I study showing Rexista has bio-equivalence to Purdue's Oxycontin, and that it has done anti-tampering studies across a wide range of applications, not only with crushing, but also with variety of alcohol combinations, microwaving, freebasing, and snorting (specifically that it can't be snorted as in contact with an aqueous media, it turns gelatinous). Said another way, results suggest that the formulation promotes the stability of Rexista oxycodone without interfering with oxycodone bioavailability. The alcohol challenge studies, beverage extraction studies, vaporization studies, and pulverization studies show that release of oxycodone will be inefficient/slow/difficult/otherwise not ideal.

This range of tests demonstrate that the company has sought to examine a variety of potential avenues for abuse, and potentially, will show a greater range of efficacy than its competitors. After Acura's results, All eyes remain on Pfizer's (PFE) Ramoxy in the near term, as it will go before the FDA for a 3rd time and could lead the class forward in this respect. Pfizer, although it has had 2 disappointments with the FDA thus far, has previously said they could get 20% of the market from Purdue.

      Zogenix example

Further, it appears that the focus on resistant technology will be increasing across platforms, as evidenced by recent actions by state prosecutors in relation to Zogenix (ZGNX). On Thursday the 12th, > 24 state prosecutors sent a letter to the FDA asking the agency to reconsider its approval of the ZGNX painkiller Zohydro, with the contention that the pill could add to prescription drug abuse. Zohydro in October, making it the first single-ingredient hydrocodone drug ever cleared for U.S. patients; the pill uses an extended release formulation reportedly 5x-10x more potent than currently available hydrocodone combination pills such as Vicodin. ZGNX is now working on version that is more difficult to abuse.

      Next Steps

IPCI will be seeking a special protocol assessment (or SPA) for its Ph-III trial (will begin in 1H/14) ahead of the NDA 505b2- which will be a double blind randomized evaluating the analgesic efficacy of Rexista in comparison to a placebo over a 12-week treatment period in patients having pain intensity scores corresponding to moderate-to-severe pain, and will test 2x dosing similar to OxyContin.

At current levels, the risk/reward profile is intriguing: with Focalin approval plus a normalized sales capture from the ANDA pipeline, it is conceivable to have a steady state run rate of ~25mm top line in '14 which, applying a normalized top line multiple, would put the market cap around ~200% from current levels, using the Shionogi comps as the baseline comparator. Again, now downside is capped and assuming one does not read extensively into the ATM offering, should offer about 50% protection on the downside with the scarcity value now conferred by the recent deal pricing.

In seiner 15.

      5 Stocks Poised for Breakouts
      BY Roberto Pedone| 01/10/14 - 01:20 PM EST

A pharmaceutical player that's starting to trend within range of triggering a big breakout trade is IntelliPharmaCeutics (IPCI_), which specializing in the research, development and manufacture of generic controlled-release and targeted-release oral solid dosage drugs. This stock has been on fire over the last three months, with shares up a whopping 99%.
If you take a look at the chart for IntelliPharmaCeutics, you'll notice that this stock has been uptrending a bit over the last few weeks, with shares moving higher from its low f $3.12 to its recent high of $4.37 a share. During that uptrend, shares of IPCI have been making mostly higher lows and higher highs, which is bullish technical price action. That move has now pushed shares of IPCI within range of triggering a big breakout trade above some key overhead resistance levels.

Traders should now look for long-biased trades in IPCI if it manages to break out some near-term overhead resistance levels at $4.37 to $4.62 a share with high volume. Look for a sustained move or close above those levels with volume that hits near or above its three-month average action of 1.31 million shares. If that breakout triggers soon, then IPCI will set up to re-test or possibly take out its 52-week high at $6.46 a share.

Traders can look to buy IPCI off any weakness to anticipate that breakout and simply use a stop that sits right below some key near-term support levels at $3.36 or at its 50-day moving average of $3.13 a share. One could also buy IPCI off strength once it starts to take out those breakout levels with volume and then simply use a stop that sits a comfortable percentage from your entry point.

Quartal. Mal sehen, was bis dahin passiert.

      IntelliPharmaCeutics International

One pharmaceutical player that's starting to move within range of triggering a big breakout trade is IntelliPharmaCeutics International (IPCI_), which researches, develops and manufactures novel and generic controlled and targeted-release oral solid dosage drugs in Canada. This stock is off to a decent start in 2014, with shares up by 9%.

      >>4 Huge Stocks on Traders' Radars

If you take a look at glance at the chart for IntelliPharmaCeutics International, you'll notice that this stock has been trending sideways inside of a range for the last three months, with shares moving between $3.05 on the downside and $4.62 on the upside. Shares of IPCI have been hugging its 50-day moving average over the last few weeks, as the stock has trended up a bit from its low of $3.50 to its recent high of $4.24 a share. This stock is now starting to move within range of triggering a big breakout trade above the upper-end of its sideways trading chart pattern.

Traders should now look for long-biased trades in IPCI if it manages to break out above some near-term overhead resistance levels at $4.24 to $4.48 a share and then once it clears some past resistance at $4.62 a share with high volume. Look for a sustained move or close above those levels with volume that hits near or above its three-month average volume of 608,240 shares. If that breakout lights off soon, then IPCI will set up to re-test or possibly take out its next major overhead resistance level at its 52-week high of $6.46 a share.

Traders can look to buy IPCI off weakness to anticipate that breakout and simply use a stop that sits right around some key near-term support levels at $3.50 to $3.30 a share. One can also buy IPCI off strength once it starts to clear those breakout levels with volume and then simply use a stop that sits a comfortable percentage from your entry point.

gute Frage.

Dies prophezeite man schon beim Merger

      http://www.genengnews.com/gen-news-highlights/vasogen-to-com…

The company’s pipeline was in the preclinical stage. As of May 31, Vasogen had $5.8 million in cash.

To help the merger with IPC, Vasogen entered into an arrangement with Cervus that will provide gross proceeds to Vasogen of approximately $7.5 million in nondilutive capital.

      Hi

Kehrtwende! Warum? Findet man keinen Vertragspartner.

Aufgrund der royalities (Q1-2014 4.4 mn) i.V.m.

TORONTO, July 7, 2014 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Intellipharmaceutics International Inc. (IPCI) (TSX:I), a pharmaceutical company specializing in the research, development and manufacture of novel and generic controlled-release and targeted-release oral solid dosage drugs, today reported the results of operations for the three and six months ended May 31, 2014. All dollar amounts referenced herein are in United States dollars unless otherwise noted.

Revenue related to the Company's license and commercialization agreement with Par Pharmaceutical, Inc. ("Par") in the three months ended May 31, 2014 was $1.5 million versus $Nil in the three months ended May 31, 2013. The revenue in the three months ended May 31, 2014 derived principally from commercial sales of its first product, 15 and 30 mg strengths of dexmethylphenidate hydrochloride extended-release capsules (generic Focalin XR(R)).

Loss from operations for the three months ended May 31, 2014 was $3.1 million compared with loss from operations of $1.8 million for the three months ended May 31, 2013. Research and development ("R&D") expenditures in the three months ended May 31, 2014 increased to $3.4 million compared to $0.9 million in the three months ended May 31, 2013, primarily due to an increase in stock-based compensation expense of $1.2 million for R&D employees related to the shareholder --approved two year extension of the expiry date of previously-granted performance-based stock options to September 2016 and newly granted stock options issued to R&D executive officers. After adjusting for stock-based compensation, expenditures for R&D were higher by $1.4 million during the 2014 period. During the quarter ended May 31, 2014, the Company incurred increased expenses on furthering the development of several generic and NDA 505(B)(2) product candidates, payment of bonuses to certain R&D executive officers, and salary increases to certain non-management R&D employees. Selling, general and administrative expenses for the three months ended May 31, 2014 increased to $1.1 million versus $0.8 million in the prior period. After adjusting for stock-based compensation expense, expenditures for selling, general and administrative expenses were higher by $0.2 million during the 2014 period, primarily due to salary increases for certain non-management employees, and the payment of bonuses to certain management employees.

The Company recorded a net loss for the three months ended May 31, 2014 of $3.1 million, or $0.14 per common share, compared with a net loss of $1.8 million, or $0.09 per common share for the three months ended May 31, 2013. The Company recorded a net loss for the six months ended May 31, 2014 of $0.9 million or $0.04 per common share, compared with a net loss of $3.1 million or $0.17 per common share for the six months ended May 31, 2013. The net loss for the three months ended May 31, 2014 is attributed to the ongoing R&D and selling, general and administrative expenses, including an increase in stock-based compensation expense, payment of bonuses to certain management employees, and increased salaries to certain non-management employees, partially offset by licensing revenue and milestone revenue. For the three months ended May 31, 2013, the net loss was attributed to the ongoing R&D and selling, general and administrative expenses, partially offset by the gain in fair value adjustment of derivative liabilities. Revenue in the three months ended May 31, 2014 was $1.5 million versus $Nil in the prior period. The stock-based compensation expense in the three months ended May 31, 2014 was $1.4 million versus $0.3 million in the prior period. The fair value adjustment of derivative liabilities in the three months ended May 31, 2014 was $Nil versus a gain of $0.2 million in the prior period. In view of the final approval of dexmethylphenidate hydrochloride extended-release capsules for the15 and 30 mg strengths, and the generation and collection of U.S. dollar revenues in the six months ended May 31, 2014 which represents a significant and material change in economic facts and circumstances, the Company had assessed the functional currency for the fiscal year commencing December 1, 2013 and concluded that the Company and its wholly owned operating subsidiaries should be measured using the U.S. dollar as the functional currency. Prior to the change in functional currency, U.S. GAAP required the fair values of the derivative liabilities to be re-valued at the end of every reporting period with the change in value reported in the consolidated statements of operations and comprehensive loss. Subsequent to the change in functional currency, U.S. GAAP reclassifies the derivative liabilities to equity and there is no further re-valuation at the end of every reporting period.

At May 31, 2014, Intellipharmaceutics' cash totaled $7.3 million, compared with $0.8 million at November 30, 2013. The increase in cash during the three months ended May 31, 2014 is mainly a result of the cash flows provided from operating activities which are from licensing revenue and milestone revenue, an increase in cash flows provided from financing activities which are mainly from common share sales under our at-the-market offering program, partially offset by an increase in purchases of production, laboratory and computer equipment.

For the three months ended May 31, 2014, net cash flows provided from operating activities increased to $0.9 million as compared to net cash flows used in operating activities of $1.8 million for the three months ended May 31, 2013. The increase was due to the receipt of $2.8 million relating to commercial sales of dexmethylphenidate hydrochloride extended-release capsules by Par for the 15 and 30 mg strengths of the drug product for the period January 1, 2014 to March 31, 2014, and $0.4 million as a milestone payment tied to the achievement of our product being either the only generic in the market or having only one generic competitor, under our license and commercialization agreement with Par. This net cash flow provided from operating activities was partially offset by increased R&D expenses, and increased selling, general and administrative expenses.

For the three months ended May 31, 2014, net cash flows provided from financing activities of $1.0 million related principally from at-the-market issuances of 377,400 of our common shares sold on NASDAQ for gross proceeds of $1,627,659 and net proceeds to us of $1,582,898, partially offset by the repayment of the entire outstanding related party loan principal to Dr. Isa Odidi and Dr. Amina Odidi, our principal stockholders, directors and executive officers, in the amount of $0.7 million (C$0.8 million) out of licensing revenues earned by Intellipharmaceutics Corp. in accordance with the court approved plan of arrangement and merger completed by IntelliPharmaCeutics Ltd. and Vasogen Inc. on October 22, 2009. For the three months ended May 31, 2013, net cash flows provided from financing activities of $2.9 million relate to the March 2013 registered direct unit offering for gross proceeds of $3.1 million at a price of $1.72 per unit. After placement agent fees and estimated offering expenses, the Company received net proceeds from the offering of approximately $2.7 million.

For the three months ended May 31, 2014, net cash flows used in investing activities was $0.2 million compared to $0.06 million in the prior period. The increase was mainly the result of purchases of production equipment due to the acceleration of product development activities.

Intellipharmaceutics also has New Drug Application 505(b)(2) product candidates in its development pipeline. These include Rexista(TM) oxycodone, an abuse-deterrent oxycodone, based on its proprietary nPODDDS(TM) novel Point Of Divergence Drug Delivery System and Regabatin(TM) XR pregabalin extended-release capsules.

Puuh , wirklich miserable Zahlen.

Maxim Group downgrades IntelliPharmaCeutics Intl Inc (USA)(NASDAQ:IPCI) to Hold from Buy and lowers their tgt to $3 from $7. Co reported the qtr with revs substantially below and expenses greater than expectations. The share count is also rising (ATM facility). The miss raises bigger concerns for firm’s revenue assumptions on Focalin and other generic XR formulations going forward. Firm is also concerned that IPCI’s Abuse Deterrent Technology is no longer differentiated in the competitive landscape versus Teva (TEVA) and Teva is better positioned.

"...with revs substantially below and expenses greater than expectations.."

      1.) revenues

The Company's 5, 10, 20 and 40 mg strengths were also tentatively FDA approved, subject to the right of another party or parties to 180 days of generic exclusivity from the date of first launch by such parties. Par intends to launch these strengths immediately upon the expiry of those exclusivity periods
      (Quelle: homepage intellipharmaceutics)

      In diesem Sinne

      - Intellipharmaceutics (FDA approved 18.11.13 15mg, 30mg)
      - MYLAN Pharms (FDA approved 28.08.13 30mg)
      - TEVA Pharms (FDA approved 19.11.13 5 mg,10mg,20mg,40mg)
      - Watson Labs (FDA approved 21.11.13 30mg)

      Quelle: http://www.drugs.com/availability/generic-focalin-xr.html

Nochmals, glaube nie was in Foren steht, von daher hast du alles richtig gemacht.

      Mal was neues zu IPCI:

      http://seekingalpha.com/article/2352325-wall-street-is-overl…

      Kernaussagen:

      Umsatzerlöse Focalin
      - "Our trailing 12 months of revenue is $7.7 million."

      Ausstehende FDA approvals
      - "...so we think there is a good probability that we will get a couple of these approved by the end of the year...."

      Entwicklungs-/Approvalprozess "Rexista"
      - "...So, Rexista has homerun potential because there is a separate regulatory path that's not as simple as the ANDA path, but it's not as long and as cumbersome as the biotech path (the Phase 1-3). Our Rexista oxycodone is going down a quicker regulatory path that has pretty good reward potential."

Intellipharmaceutics Augments Its Rexista(TM) Oxycodone Development Program With Novel Overdose Deterrence Technology
      Ticker Symbol: U:IPCI C:I

TORONTO, Aug. 28, 2014 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Intellipharmaceutics International Inc. (Nasdaq:IPCI) (TSX:I), a pharmaceutical company specializing in the research, development and manufacture of novel and generic controlled-release and targeted-release oral solid dosage drugs, today announced an enhancement of its Rexista abuse-deterrence technologies with a significant improvement designed to prevent overdose when more pills than prescribed are swallowed intact. Intellipharmaceutics' new platform technology is branded PODRAS (Paradoxical OverDose Resistance Activating System).

The PODRAS platform technology is covered by patents pending with the U.S. Patent and Trademark office.

"We believe this significant advance in our abuse deterrence technology has the potential to positively differentiate Rexista from other abuse-deterrent technologies of which we are aware, and represents an important step toward helping patients manage their pain safely," said Dr. Isa Odidi, Chief Executive Officer of Intellipharmaceutics. "In addition to its use with oxycodone, the new technology is potentially applicable to a wide range of drug products that are intentionally or inadvertently abused and cause harm by overdose to those who ingest them."

Intellipharmaceutics' most advanced application of the PODRAS platform to date is to its Rexista product candidate (oxycodone hydrochloride extended-release tablet), which is designed to deter abuse by both physical interference and overdose.

Preclinical studies of Rexista suggest that, unlike other third-party abuse-deterrent oxycodone products, if more tablets than prescribed are deliberately or inadvertently swallowed, the amount of drug active released over 24 hours may be substantially less than expected, even possibly approaching zero. However, if the prescribed number of pills is swallowed, the drug release should be as expected.

In January 2013, the United States Food and Drug Administration ("FDA") published a paper titled, Guidance for Industry: Abuse-Deterrent Opioids Evaluation and Labeling, which cited the need for more efficacious abuse deterrence-technology.

In this draft Guidance, the FDA stated, "Opioid analgesics are often manipulated for purposes of abuse. Most abuse-deterrent technologies developed to date are designed to make product manipulation more difficult or to make abuse of the manipulated product less attractive or rewarding. However, these technologies have not yet proven successful at deterring the most common form of abuse swallowing a number of intact pills or tablets to achieve a feeling of euphoria."

Dr. Ed Sellers, an internationally recognized clinical pharmacologist and Professor Emeritus, University of Toronto, and President of DL Global Partners commented "The risk of overdose due to taking more opiate analgesic than prescribed is a real one. The lack of delivery technologies to reduce that risk is an unmet public health need. The announced technology is promising. Confirmation of its clinical importance in human clinical studies would be a significant contribution to deterring abuse."

Intellipharmaceutics currently expects to begin a series of clinical trials in Canada and the United States in the coming months to further evaluate Rexista incorporating its PODRAS platform.

There can be no assurance as to whether or when the FDA will approve any Intellipharmaceutics' Rexista oxycodone application.

      About Rexista Oxycodone

Rexista oxycodone is an investigational drug, with a unique long-acting oral formulation of oxycodone intended to treat moderate-to-severe pain when a continuous, around the clock opioid analgesic is needed for an extended period of time. Rexista oxycodone is designed to discourage common methods of tampering associated with misuse and abuse of such prescription opioid analgesic.

      About Intellipharmaceutics

Intellipharmaceutics International Inc. is a pharmaceutical company specializing in the research, development and manufacture of novel and generic controlled-release and targeted-release oral solid dosage drugs. The Company's patented Hypermatrix technology is a multidimensional controlled-release drug delivery platform that can be applied to the efficient development of a wide range of existing and new pharmaceuticals. Based on this technology platform, Intellipharmaceutics has developed several drug delivery systems and a pipeline of products (our dexmethylphenidate hydrochloride extended-release capsules for the 15 and 30 mg strengths) and product candidates in various stages of development, including Abbreviated New Drug Applications ("ANDAs") filed with the FDA in therapeutic areas that include neurology, cardiovascular, gastrointestinal tract, diabetes and pain.

Intellipharmaceutics also has New Drug Application 505(b)(2) product candidates in its development pipeline. These include Rexista oxycodone, an abuse-deterrent oxycodone, based on its proprietary nPODDDS novel Point Of Divergence Drug Delivery System, and PODRAS Paradoxical Overdose Resistance Activating System, and Regabatin XR pregabalin extended-release capsules.

Intellipharmaceutics Reports Positive Results from a Series of Phase I Clinical Trials of Regabatin(TM) XR (Pregabalin Extended-Release)

TORONTO, Oct. 22, 2014 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Intellipharmaceutics International Inc. (IPCI) (TSX:I), a pharmaceutical company specializing in the research, development and manufacture of novel and generic controlled-release and targeted-release oral solid dosage drugs, today provided an update on the progress of its Regabatin(TM) XR product development. Regabatin(TM) XR pregabalin extended release capsules are the Company's non-generic pregabalin formulations. The Company intends to present the following information arising from its Regabatin(TM) XR product development program at the upcoming American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists (AAPS) Annual Meeting and Exposition in San Diego from Nov 2-6, 2014.

The Company has recently conducted and analyzed the results of six Phase I clinical trials involving a twice-a-day formulation and a once-a-day formulation. For formulations directed to certain indications which include fibromyalgia, the results suggested that Regabatin(TM) XR 82.5 mg twice-a-day ("BID") dosage was comparable in bioavailability to Lyrica(R) 50 mg (immediate-release pregabalin) three-times-a-day ("TID") dosage. For formulations directed to certain other indications which include neuropathic pain associated with diabetic peripheral neuropathy, the results suggested that Regabatin(TM) XR 165 mg once-a-day dosage was comparable in bioavailability to Lyrica(R) 75 mg BID dosage. Pregabalin is indicated for the management of neuropathic pain associated with diabetic peripheral neuropathy, postherpetic neuralgia, spinal cord injury and fibromyalgia. A controlled-release version of pregabalin should reduce the number of doses patients take, which could improve patient compliance, and therefore possibly enhance clinical outcomes. Lyrica(R) pregabalin, BID and TID, are drug products marketed in the United States by Pfizer Inc.

Each study was structured as an open label, balanced, randomized and crossover oral bioavailability study. Taking the Regabatin(TM) XR 165 mg once-a-day product as an example, following single dose administration of Regabatin(TM) XR 165mg vs. Lyrica(R) 75mg BID under fed conditions, bioequivalence criteria were met for Cmax [Ratio (%); 103.41 (95.60-111.86 @ 90% Confidence)], AUCt [Ratio (%); 99.37 (94.82-104.13 @ 90% Confidence)] and AUCinf [Ratio (%); 97.01 (92.39-101.86 @ 90% Confidence)]. Under multiple dose administration of Regabatin(TM) XR 165mg vs. Lyrica(R) 75mg BID, Regabatin(TM) XR 165mg met bio-equivalence criteria for both Cmax [Ratio (%); 107.41 (99.45-116.00 @ 90% Confidence)] and AUC0-t [Ratio (%); 84.67 (81.03-88.47 @ 90% Confidence)].

Those results also suggested that Regabatin(TM) XR 165mg once-a-day has a higher exposure during the first 12 hours than Lyrica(R) 75mg BID. Together with the symptomatology and chronobiology of fibromyalgia, this could prove to be advantageous with evening meal dosing and suggests that once a day Regabatin(TM) XR 165mg once-a-day may confer a compliance advantage over Lyrica(R) 75mg BID which is currently administered for treatment of fibromyalgia.

Plans are underway to initiate an investigational new drug application ("IND") under the new drug application ("NDA") 505(b)(2) regulatory pathway with the United States Food and Drug Administration ("FDA"), with a view to possible commercialization in the United States following the Dec. 30, 2018 expiry of the patent covering the pregabalin molecule. According to Source Healthcare Analytics, U.S. sales for the 12 months ended August 2014 for Lyrica(R) (pregabalin capsules) in all strengths were approximately $3.0 billion, expressed in TRx MBS Dollars as defined in our latest Form 20-F. There can be no assurance that additional clinical trials will meet our expectations, that we will have sufficient capital to conduct such trials, that we will be successful in submitting an NDA with the FDA, that the FDA will approve this product candidate for sale in the U.S. market, or that it will ever be successfully commercialized.

"We are excited with the positive results of the Phase I studies utilizing formulations and dosages of our Regabatin(TM) XR product candidate," stated Dr. Isa Odidi, CEO and co-founder of Intellipharmaceutics. "To the best of our knowledge, at present there is no once-daily pregabalin product, nor is there one designed to provide higher early exposure following its oral administration, a factor which may prove beneficial to fibromyalgia patients. We plan to move forward, subject to FDA guidance, into Phase III and also to explore our potential strategic business development activities for this product."
