Antwort auf Beitrag Nr.: 43.023.773 von Loserin am 11.04.12 12:24:05Das ist hier bei US Silica der Sand, der in gasführendes Gestein eingebracht wird, um die Poren offenzuhalten, die durch hydraulisches Fracturing (="Fracking") aufgemacht wurden;

"Supply and demand are closer to being in balance," said Michael Lawson, a spokesman for U.S. Silica, the country's second-largest silica sand producer.

The Freedonia Group, a market research organization, estimates that the annual demand for silica sand will increase by at least 4.8 percent every year at least until 2016.

"There may be a temporary stabilization, but it's only temporary," said Winona County, Minn., planning and environmental services director Jason Gilman.

Behind the fracking boom, a sand mining rush
http://www.wbez.org/news/behind-fracking-boom-sand-mining-ru…

>>> Demand has skyrocketed. The demand for silica sand suddenly shot through the roof with the growth of the fracking industry in the late 2000s. In 2011, U.S. silica consumption was over 26 million tons; in 2012, the U.S. Geological Survey reported it had nearly doubled to over 45 million tons. Prices spiked for a couple years, although now companies in Illinois and Wisconsin report the pricing has leveled out as supply begins to meet demand. The owner of Mississippi Sand, LLC says his sand will sell for $100-$150 per ton, including transportation.

A sandstorm is coming: Courtesy sand mafia and sand mining
http://www.dnaindia.com/mumbai/1869629/report-coming-a-sands…

West goes off sand
Developed countries are moving away from sand, so much so that the need for sand mining has decreased considerably.

Many countries are using crushed industrial waste, called aggregate, in construction.

In Britain, metal slack is now used to lay roads. Sand is not used at all.

Montesserat, a tiny country in the Caribbean Sea, has eliminated coastal sand mining, since the practice posed a threat to the island. In the late 1990s, the country embarked on community-driven initiatives to promote alternatives in construction.

In most developed countries, sand mining is kept under check, both through regulations as well as implementation. Sand mining is somewhat a problem in four US states, but there, sand is mined for frac sand (silica).

Impact of unsustainable sand mining
Undercutting and collapse of river banks, loss of adjacent land and/or structures, upstream erosion as a result of an increase in channel slope and changes in flow velocity, as well as downstream erosion due to increased carrying capacity of the stream, downstream changes in patterns of deposition, and changes in riverbed and habitat type.

Threats to water security resulting from the loss of groundwater storage due to lowering of the water table. Example: The water table in all the wells in the Pampa river valley in Kerala has fallen significantly — by an average of 3-4m, and up to 6m in some areas.

Decreased protection from beachfront erosion, especially during ocean disasters.

Mining and dredging activities, poorly-planned stockpiling and uncontrolled dumping of overburden, and chemical/fuel spills cause reduced water quality for downstream users, increased cost for downstream water treatment plants and poisoning of aquatic life.

Alternatives
Construction engineers and scientists, especially in the West, are still grappling with the issue of avoiding sand to make concrete. Stone powder and fly ash have been propped up as alternatives, but the new mixes are not cost-effective and are less durable.

The most viable alternative is ‘manufactured sand’. It is produced in a stone crushing plant by implementing, what are called, vertical shaft impactors and washing plants. M-sand is produced from stones which is used for aggregates, and the quality is consistent and even better than river sand. The practice is yet to catch on in India, though Maharashtra, Kerala, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu have okayed the use of M-sand. Moreover, M-sand is relatively cheaper too

3 Dividend Small Caps With Very Strong Growth Prospects Currently In Uptrend

http://seekingalpha.com/article/1719802-3-dividend-small-cap…

Knoll, Inc. (KNL)
Hi-Crush Partners LP (HCLP)
U.S. Silica Holdings, Inc. (SLCA)

U.S. Silica Holdings, Inc., together with its subsidiaries, engages in the mining, processing, and sale of commercial silica in the United States.

U.S. Silica Holdings has a trailing P/E of 16.97 and a very low forward P/E of 11.41. The PEG ratio is very low at 0.62, and the average annual earnings growth estimate for the next 5 years is very high at 27.50%. The forward annual dividend yield is at 2.0%, and the payout ratio is at 43%.

The SLCA stock price is 1.98% above its 20-day simple moving average, 5.99% above its 50-day simple moving average and 17.06% above its 200-day simple moving average. That indicates a short-term, mid-term and long-term uptrend.

Analysts recommend the stock. Among the ten analysts covering the stock, seven rate it as a strong buy, and three rate it as a buy.

U.S. Silica Holdings has recorded strong revenue and EPS growth, during the last year and the last three years, as shown in the table below.

On July 31, U.S. Silica Holdings reported its second-quarter results, which missed EPS expectations by $0.02 and missed on revenues. The company reported net income of $20.2 million or $0.38 per basic and diluted share for the second quarter ended June 30, 2013 compared with net income of $19.5 million or $0.37 per basic share and $0.36 per diluted share for the same period in 2012.

Second Quarter Highlights

Record revenue of $129.8 million increased 24% over the second quarter of 2012
Oil and gas volumes increased 44% over the same period in 2012
Company reaffirming full-year Adjusted EBITDA guidance of $165 million to $175 million
Declares regular quarterly cash dividend of $0.125 per share
Announces initial investment in new Greenfield site

U.S. Silica Holdings has recorded strong revenue and EPS growth, and considering its strong growth prospects, its compelling valuation metrics, and the fact that the stock is in an uptrend, SLCA stock can move higher. Furthermore, the solid dividend represents a nice income.

Risks to the expected capital gain and to the dividend payment include; a downturn in the U.S. economy, and a decline in the price of natural gas and oil.

Antwort auf Beitrag Nr.: 45.618.577 von XIO am 13.10.13 12:41:50aus letzterem:

A massive short position is still open and continues to be churned in SLCA. Reports that the stock has been shorted to almost 40% of the float are available online. A monster 14,140,400 shares are reported short out of a total of 35.5 million estimated in the float and only 52.3 million total shares outstanding. This is a level you would expect for a company that has already failed. Not for one that is in the thick of the most exponential growth market the U.S. has ever seen in domestic oil production.

Big money loves the stock. In addition to the recent upgrades and mentions of fast money CNBC you can see from reports on Google Finance that SLCA has 112% institutional ownership. Meaning big money and insiders own more than the total shares out there. Indicating that short traders have taken more positions than there are shares to cover those trades. This can only come to one conclusion and that is a massive short squeeze.

Taken in combination I would expect the stock to move north of $45 a share very quickly and expect to even see the $60's or $70's by the middle to end of next year. I calculate these levels based on a forward earnings per share of $3 and a expected price-to-earnings ratio of between 15, on the low end, and 28 on the high end. Which would be comparable to the peer group and . This all assumes no serious changes in underlying conditions.

As opposed to ceramic proppants, which can go from $0.30 per pound to $0.90 per pound but which offer higher quality extraction capabilities and which are capable of performing in greater depths, silica and sand proppants can sell for as little as $0.019 per pound.

Frac sand pricing has room to the upside as it costs just 10% of ceramic proppant. Whiting has followed suit and has successfully tested a form of this design in the Bakken and also the Niobrara. There are rumors other operators are testing this method in several other US plays. This points to what may be a universal application throughout more mature and speculative plays in the US. If this is the case, established players will not only have an advantage but also be motivated to acquire additional capacity. There are three names best positioned for this type of scenario that I listed in the beginning of this article. Of those names U.S. Silica is best positioned due to its logistical advantages.

Michael Filloon wrote one of the most interesting, insightful articles ever on Seeking Alpha recently (link). In the article, he explains how EOG (EOG) has pioneered an approach to fracking that yields substantially higher initial production rates and may also lead to higher expected ultimate recoveries from oil wells. EOG has applied this technique in the Eagle Ford, the Bakken and the Permian, and other operators are starting to implement some or all of the aspects of the technique in these areas.

The technique involves using substantially larger amounts of sand (proppant), as well as doing shorter, "wider" frac stages. Michael points out that this is very promising for U.S. Silica (SLCA), because it provides frac sand that is used in this technique, and if more sand is used, there will be more demand for U.S. Silica's products.

U.S. Silica (SLCA) is expected to continue to benefit from the North American fracking boom when it announces results late Wednesday.

The company used to get most of its business from glass and industrial product makers, but now its supplies of silica are used to help with oil and gas fracking. The company gets nearly 60% of its revenue from the energy industry.

Oil and gas production in the U.S. has gone up in recent years as new fracking techniques help producers exploit previously hard-to-reach fossil fuel deposits.

Analysts polled by Thomson Reuters are expecting U.S. Silica to report a 14% jump in earnings to 41 cents per share and a 22% rise in revenue to $141.28 million.

U.S. Silica stock has risen nearly 150% since Oct. 5, 2012, and was up 2.8% on the stock market today.

Last month Morgan Stanley raised its price target on U.S. Silica to 36, and Sidoti initiated coverage on the company with a buy rating.

My final earnings short-squeeze play is silica sand supplier U.S. Silica (SLCA), which is set to release numbers on Wednesday after the market close. Wall Street analysts, on average, expect U.S. Silica to report revenue of $141.28 million on earnings of 41 cents per share.

The current short interest as a percentage of the float for U.S. Silica is extremely high at 37.4%. That means that out of the 35.45 million shares in the tradable float, 13.25 million shares are sold short by the bears. If this company can deliver the earnings news the bulls are looking for, then shares of SLCA could experience a large short-squeeze post-earnings.

From a technical perspective, SLCA is currently trending above both its 50-day and 200-day moving averages, which is bullish. This stock has been uptrending strong for the last five months, with shares soaring higher from its low of $19.16 to its recent high of $37.14 a share. During that uptrend, shares of SLCA have been consistently making higher lows and higher highs, which is bullish technical price action. That move has now pushed shares of SLCA within range of triggering a big breakout trade post-earnings.

If you're in the bull camp on SLCA, then I would wait until after its report and look for long-biased trades if this stock manages to break out above its all-time high at $37.14 a share (or Wednesday's intraday high if higher) with high volume. Look for volume on that move that hits near or above its three-month average volume of 1.28 million shares. If that breakout hits, then SLCA will set up to enter new all-time high territory, which is bullish technical price action. Some possible upside targets off that breakout are $50 to $55 a share.

Financial Times

"Golden Gate Capital has divested its remaining 8.5% stake in US Silica, the listed commercial silica producer, a securities filing revealed on Friday, in a move that takes the total proceeds earned from the business by the US private equity firm to $1.15bn.

The exit translates into a return of nearly 10 times Golden Gate’s initial investment of $120m in US Silica five years ago."

Fracking Play Set to Break-Out

Stock of the Week
http://www.sharkinvesting.com/stock-of-the-week.aspx

Our Stock of the Week is U.S Silica Holding, Inc. (SLCA). SLCA mines Silica sand. Silica is used plate for windows and for glass in iPhone and iPad screens but its main use recently is for hydraulic fracturing. Fracturing is the process of pumping a mixture of sand, water and chemicals into rock formations under high pressure to force oil gas to flow to the surface. It is estimated that an average well requires 25 railcars of sand.

In its most recent quarter SLCA saw EPS jump 17% and revenues increase 25% over last year. Annual earnings are expected to grow 37% to $2.17 from $1.56 in 2014. The stock trades with a trailing PE of 23x.

On Friday the company issued a secondary offering of shares for selling shareholders at $35.00. The company is at the Wells Fargo Pipeline, MLP and Energy Symposium on Wednesday this week. There have been takeover rumors which we don’t give much credence to but there has been talk that Vulcan Materials (VMC) is interested.

Technically the stock is set up well with a solid base and a number of recent attempts at breaking through resistance at $36. As always we would not chase a strong open on Monday but would look for intraday strength and a good close on higher volume.

Additionally, Pioneer has tested the use of lower-cost white sand instead of ceramic proppant to fracture stimulate wells drilled in shallower areas of the field. As of August 2013, 84 wells have been tested, at a savings of approximately $1.1 million per well. Early well performance has been similar to direct offset ceramic-stimulated wells. Pioneer plans to continue monitoring the performance of these wells and plans to use white sand in 75% of its 2013 drilling program.

Commodities Today: Gold Down, Hidden Gems In The Bakken
http://seekingalpha.com/article/1907781-commodities-today-go…
The gains for investors have not been limited to the oil patch though. US Silica Holdings (SLCA) has been a big winner due to the shale boom taking place across the country, especially with what is occurring in Colorado and North Dakota. The stock has backed off from recent highs due to investor and analyst concerns about margins and growth, but with current drilling techniques and the continued growth in domestic drilling we think this name continues to outperform heading forward.

One Of The Most Notable Stories Of The Year: Energy Renaissance In The U.S.A
http://seekingalpha.com/article/1907821-one-of-the-most-nota…

However, to make the most out of the energy renaissance, investors should look beyond these direct shale plays. As highlighted in The Wall Street Journal, "another boom" is being created in a key ingredient used in hydraulic fracturing: sand. The WSJ finds that companies that mine the ideal sand used to crack rocks and allow the oil and gas to flow out have increased substantially. For example, since going public in August 2012, shares of U.S. Silica (SLCA) have doubled, according to the WSJ.

Refiners also benefit tremendously. Because crude oil exports are mostly prohibited, the oil is refined before being shipped to the rest of the world. As you can see in the chart, in recent years, the U.S. has moved from importing refined petroleum products prior to 2010 to exporting more than 1 million barrels per day as of September 2013.

John Rogers' Ariel Investments Monthly Commentary - November
December 12, 2013
http://www.gurufocus.com/news/238581/john-rogers-ariel-inves…

Second is U.S. Silica Holdings Inc. (SLCA), which provides silica—industrial grade sand—chiefly to energy companies; we own it in Ariel Fund as well as our small cap separate account. When many look quickly at the company, they see a straightforward supplier of a pure commodity product, which therefore has no barrier to entry from competition. We believe, on the other hand, that Silica has a substantial competitive advantage due to its top-notch distribution network and its low costs. Two thirds of its customers are oil and gas producers and another third are industrial companies. In both cases, Silica’s customers need continual supplies of industrial sand or else they must idle their operations, costing a significant amount of time and money. In addition, Silica has 75% of its volume under contract, with an average weighted contract life of two years. In our view, Silica’s customers are highly unlikely to simply switch providers based on price.

John Rogers Ariel Fund Third Quarter Commentary
October 24, 2013
http://www.gurufocus.com/news/232678/john-rogers-ariel-fund-…

During the quarter, we initiated a position in U.S. Silica Holdings Inc. (SLCA), a supplier of industrial-grade sand to the oil and gas markets. Silica (the technical name for this sand) is critical in the process of hydraulic fracturing, and in our view, mastering the logistics and transportation of this commodity constitutes a durable competitive advantage. We believe the market is underestimating the likely pace of growth in U.S. Silica's revenue and earnings over the next several years (as demand continues to meaningfully increase), as well as the attractive cash flow characteristics of the company's business. We did not eliminate any positions from Ariel Fund this quarter. At this point, we consider ourselves cautiously optimistic.

http://www.twst.com/news/1289-us-silica-holdings-inc-slca-to…

U.S. Silica Holdings Inc (SCLA), a Maryland-based company that provides sand to oil & gas drilling companies, is in a good position to capture additional market share over the next two years, according to William Blair Analyst Brandon Dobell.

He says only a certain type of sand – Ottawa white sand, which is found in Illinois, Wisconsin and Minnesota – can withstand the heat and pressure of the drilling process. Dobell says the market is currently underestimating the amount of sand the North American drilling market is going to need. U.S. Silica, he says, has an opportunity in front of it, not only because of its access to Ottawa white sand, but also because it has a large network of storage and distribution facilities.

U.S. Silica Warns Bad Weather Hurt 4th-Quarter Profit

U.S. Silica Holdings Inc. (SLCA) issued a preliminary fourth-quarter profit outlook that missed Wall Street's expectations, as the company warned severe winter weather led to higher costs.

The commercial silica producer said bad weather in December reduced well completion activity and drove higher costs across the company's supply chain.

U.S. Silica also warned of "meaningful" one-time costs, including a bad-debt expense tied to a customer bankruptcy.

U.S. Silica projected a profit of 31 cents a share on $149.5 million in revenue.

Analysts surveyed by Thomson Reuters had projected a profit of 43 cents a share on $149 million.

U.S. Silica expects to release fourth-quarter results Feb. 25.

Shares, inactive in premarket trading, closed Thursday at $32.02.

U.S. Silica Holdings Inc (NYSE:SLCA) Slides On Back Of Weak Preliminary 4Q Operations

Dallas, Texas 02/05/2014 (FINANCIALSTRENDS) – The $1.4 billion market capped U.S. Silica Holdings Inc (NYSE:SLCA) has seen its stock bleed valuation at the markets ever since it reported preliminary fourth quarter 2013 results and provided weaker than expected 2014 guidance.

Making no excuses for the slowdown in the 4Q operations, U.S. Silica Holdings Inc (NYSE:SLCA) president and chief executive officer Bryan Shinn has been quoted to have said that, “Our fourth quarter results were negatively impacted by the severe winter storms in mid- and late December. The weather reduced well completion activity and drove higher costs across our supply chain. We also encountered meaningful one-time costs, including a bad debt expense related to a customer bankruptcy. However, I am pleased to report that volumes appear to have rebounded in January.”

Due to the unforeseen circumstances the firm lowered its guidance for full year 2014 operations; It expects earnings before tax to come in at $180 to $200 million and has limited its cap ex in the new year at $75 to $85 million range. It also expects its tax liability to hover around the 25 percent mark.

The audited results are expected to be announced on 25th February. The downward pegging of the outlook by the firm should not come as a surprise to investors. In the past few weeks, this is the second successive downward revision of the revenue/earnings forecast. This trend warns the market that the management team itself is blindsided to the slowdown in its business and hence are attempting to set expectations before the actual announcement.

The stock has shed close to 14 percent of its market value during trading last week and addend a further 4.7 percent loss during trading on 4th February. At current price points, it is trading 56 percent above its 52 week low price point.

Wells Fargo upgraded U.S. Silica Holdings (NYSE: SLCA) from Market Perform to Outperform with a price target of $33-$35 (unchanged). Analyst Matthew D. Conlan sees an attractive entry.

"SLCA's recent earnings preannouncement and below-consensus 2014 guidance set expectations for SLCA's per-ton profits to remain fairly flat in 2014 and lowered the stock’s valuation to a level we feel is an attractive (re)entry point. In line with SLCA's most recent (seemingly conservative) guidance, we are lowering our 2013/2014 EPS estimates to $1.43/$1.97 from $1.56/$2.42, with a 2015 EPS estimate of $2.79," said Conlan.

U.S. Silica Announces Major Expansions to Supply Chain and Logistics Network
http://www.marketwatch.com/story/us-silica-announces-major-e…

FREDERICK, Md., Feb. 11, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- U.S. Silica Holdings, Inc. SLCA +4.99% announced today that the Company has entered into an agreement with Union Pacific Railroad (UP) to build a new, unit train capable silica sand storage facility in Odessa, Texas. In addition, the Company has completed modifications to its resin-coated sand facility in Rochelle, Illinois. These changes now enable the plant to ship raw sand to multiple destinations across the country. The plant will continue to produce resin coated sand for the oil and gas and foundry industries.

U.S. Silica and Union Pacific Distribution Services, a subsidiary of Union Pacific Railroad, plan to develop a 20,000-ton frac sand storage facility, which is expected to be operational by the end of 2014. U.S. Silica's investment in this state-of-the-art, world class loading facility is approximately $12 million.

Bryan Shinn, U.S. Silica president and chief executive officer said the Company is "very excited to have the opportunity to work closely with Union Pacific to bolster our transload network and get our customers even closer to the wellhead in the Permian, which is one of the fastest growing shale basins in the country."

Brad Thrasher, VP and General Manager of Industrial Products at Union Pacific said, "We are excited at the potential opportunities that will arise from the Odessa Transload facility. This will serve as a great outlet for continued growth in the Permian Basin."

The modifications simply enable the facility to function, in part, as a transload as well as being unit train capable. The first unit train was shipped from Rochelle last month. Mike Winkler, U.S. Silica vice president and chief operating officer said, "Rochelle gives us a tremendous amount of flexibility to move material cost effectively to all of the major shale basins in the country while at the same time optimizing the utilization of this very important asset."

U.S. Silica to operate La Salle frac sand mine
http://www.mywebtimes.com/news/local/u-s-silica-to-operate-l…

still under construction, the city of La Salle approved the mine — north of Interstate 80 and west of Route 178 — in February 2013. Under the city's agreement, it will collect 15 cents for every ton of sand mined with a 2 percent annual increase.

Lawson said the facility would not start production of frac sand for sale until later this summer and eventually should employ 15 to 30 people. Within a year — when the facility is up to full production — U.S. Silica projects the La Salle operation will produce 1.5 million tons of frac sand annually.

"The beauty of the La Salle facility is that it is close to four different class-one railroads and near river transportation in Ottawa," said Lawson. "From those points, we can ship sand to our many customers across the United States. We are currently lining up customers for such sales."

Frac sand is quartz sand of a specific grain size and shape that is suspended in fluid and injected into oil and gas wells under very high pressure to increase production. The fluid pressure opens and enlarges fractures as well as creates new ones. Sand grains are carried into these fractures and prop them open after the fluid is pumped out. The oil and gas industry has used the process for 75 years.

Recently, frac sand has been in high demand with the development of new horizontal drilling technology using hydraulic fracturing that made possible production of previously unrecoverable natural gas resources mostly in the Eastern, Western and Southwestern United States.

Lastly, on the smaller side, is U.S. Silica (SLCA), which is a leading provider of fracking sand. Again, earnings are expected to grow rapidly this year and next (25% and 36%), and the stock has rallied strongly back to the top of its 21-week base. The stock is much more volatile than the other two mentioned, so if you want to play it, keep the position small and use a stop near 32 or so.

http://www.businessweek.com/news/2014-04-17/fracking-sand-sp…

‘Logistical Equation’

“It’s really a complicated logistical equation and the small companies can’t do it,” Dobell said. “The big guys are really going to take a lot of market share because they have the capital to make the investments.”

Emerge is building toward 20 unit trains of sand a month from none two years ago, Shearer said. The company is adding two new mines that together will have annual capacity of 5 million tons and give it access to Canadian National Railway Co. (CNR) and Canadian Pacific Railway Ltd. (CP) The company’s existing mines are served by Union Pacific and BNSF, he said.

“We will be on four Class I railroads when we finish these plants,” Shearer said. “That was a key focus for us to add this logistics flexibility.”

U.S. Silica is now selling 70 percent of frac sand from its storage facilities near drilling areas, up from 5 percent two years earlier, U.S. Silica’s Shinn said.

“It’s been really a massive transformation,” Shinn said. “Some days it feels like we’re more of a logistics company that just happens to sell sand.”

U.S. Silica Holdings Inc (SLCA) continues to see strong upside momentum take it to fresh record highs, recently busting thru the $42 level, and putting it on track to print higher highs.

Trading at a multiple of 16.30 times next year’s estimated earnings, the stock should continue to climb not only from a fundamental perspective, but also from a technical one, as the chart points to a strong rally from here to the mid-$48 level.

The fact that the name hasn’t relinquished much in the way of its solid intraday gains whatsoever since early February despite the recent market selloff, is also noteworthy.

SLCA has an average 3-month trading volume of 1.7 million shares. The ticker has a 52wk range of $18.12 – 42.47. The company has a current market cap of $2.27 billion, a P/E ratio of 29.97 and a mrq/book value of 5.78.

Shares of Silica closed at $42.26 on Friday.

Was mir gut an U.S.

U.S. Silica started with Buy rating at Miller Tabak as frac sand demand booms

U.S. Silica (SLCA +0.6%) is well positioned to take advantage of the demand boom for frac sand, Miller Tabak analysts say in initiating coverage with a Buy rating and an $82 price target.
The firm believes E&P companies "are just starting to understand the benefits that increased reservoir contact has on ultimate recovery," expecting frac sand demand to reach 84M tons by 2016 vs. 28M in 2013; it sees SLCA as one of the best ways to play the growth due to its aggressive capacity expansion plans and industry leading logistics and transload network.
Earlier this month, SLCA raised its FY 2014 EBITDA guidance to $230M-$240M from an earlier range of $215M-$225M, well above analyst estimates.

The production cost of a barrel of shale oil ranges from as high as US$95 per barrel to as low US$25 per barrel, although there is no recent confirmation of the latter figure.[4]

PacWest, a consultancy, says that capacity utilisation for pressure pumping equipment dropped to just 74 per cent at the end of last year. As a result, prices for pumping services dropped an estimated 22 per cent between the first quarter of 2012 and the third quarter of 2013.

It was a rough time for service companies. Schlumberger’s North American operating profits fell 10 per cent last year, Halliburton’s by 26 per cent and Baker Hughes’ by 34 per cent. For producers, though, it was wonderful.

Peak of fracking oil wird m.

Frac sand for sale: Smart Sand Partners LP files for a $100 million IPO

11/13/14

Smart Sand Partners LP, an MLP formed by Clearlake Capital to own frac sand production assets in Wisconsin, filed on Thursday with the SEC to raise up to $100 million in an initial public offering.

Frac IPOs
Smart Sand Partners LP initially filed confidentially on August 29, 2014, just one week after close competitor Fairmount Santrol (FMSA) filed publicly. Fairmount priced below the range and raised $400 million in early October, but trades 21% below, including an 8% loss today. The frac sand MLP IPOs of 2012 and 2013, Hi-Crush Partners LP (HCLP) and Emerge Energy Services (EMES), reached all-time highs on August 29. Since then, Emerge has fallen 46% (but still trades 350% above its IPO price) and Hi-Crush is down 36% (+160% from IPO).

The The Woodlands, TX-based company, which was founded in 2014 and booked $52 million in sales for the 12 months ended September 30, 2014, plans to list on the NASDAQ under the symbol SSLP. Goldman Sachs and Credit Suisse are the joint bookrunners on the deal. No pricing terms were disclosed.

"Unloved" Pick of the Week: U.S. Silica Holdings Inc.
November 25th, 2014
in contributors
Money Moneyng Article of the Week
by David Zeiler, Associate Editor, Money Morning

Money Morning's "unloved" pick of the week is fracking sand supplier U.S. Silica Holdings Inc. (NYSE: SLCA).

An unloved investment is one that's been beaten down - but is actually a great value. Investors then get an amazing entry point into a good long-term investment.

U.S. Silica Holdings Inc. (NYSE: SLCA): About the Company

U.S. Silica has its roots in two silica and sand mining companies founded in the late 1800s: The Ottawa Silica Company of Berkeley Springs, W.V., and the Pennsylvania Glass Sand Corporation of Lewistown, Pa. The two merged to form U.S. Silica and moved the company headquarters to Frederick, Md. U.S. Silica primarily produces sand and silica products used in shale oil and shale gas fracking. However, SLCA offers 250 products that also serve the glass, chemicals, foundry, and building products industries. U.S. Silica operates in 16 locations across the country and employs about 850 people. SLCA has a market cap of $2.42 billion. The chief executive officer is Bryan A. Shinn.

U.S. Silica Holdings Inc. (NYSE: SLCA): Why It's Unloved Right Now

As a supplier to oil drilling companies, SLCA is sensitive to the price of oil. The price of oil nosedived from over $100 a barrel at the start of July to below $85 in October. Oil has continued to slide in November down to about $75.
When the fracking industry starts to have cash flow issues due to low oil prices, Wall Street worries they'll slow purchases from suppliers like U.S. Silica. So investors sold off SLCA stock.

On top of the fall in oil prices, two analysts cut their rating on SLCA stock in recent weeks. Simmons & Co. downgraded SLCA from overweight to neutral on Oct. 31. And Zacks Investment Research dropped U.S. Silica stock from outperform to neutral on Nov. 8.

But the SLCA sellers forgot something important...

Robinson said:
"Investors recently dumped shares in a panic without realizing a compelling part of the story - it's not all about energy. U.S. Silica's specialty division, which accounts for 40% of sales, supplies such industries as housing, water filtration, and performance chemicals."

And while some analysts believe U.S. Silica's array of products is destined to become low-margin commodities, Robinson disagrees.

Robinson said:
"U.S. Silica has committed itself to constant innovation, making that a key to success. In 2012 it created a new 'technical director' post and constructed an advanced research lab."

What's more, Robinson says SLCA's supply chain and logistics operations are "second to none in the industry." That's critical, he says, "because these operations serve as the additional barriers to entry that keeps the company's rivals on the sidelines."

U.S. Silica is also getting ahead of rising demand from the fracking industry. It plans to open three new mines by 2016. That will double the company's capacity, Robinson said.

And the company posted impressive third-quarter earnings. Income almost doubled from $0.40 a share a year ago to $0.76., while revenue rose from $144.4 million to $241.3 million.

As for the main trigger of SLCA's recent sell-off, low oil prices - it can't last. Saudi Arabia has engineered the fall in oil prices, but it's a losing strategy. SLCA stock will get a nice pop when oil rebounds and the economics of fracking again become attractive.

Finally, Robinson pointed out that Forbes recently recognized U.S. Silica as America's Best Small Company. "That means more investors are going to start noticing our find soon," he said.

The Market Changes Its Mind On U.S. Silica

http://seekingalpha.com/article/2720405-the-market-changes-i…

"If the market is correct, however, and the company's fracking sand segment experiences significant deterioration in demand, U.S. Silica stock could continue falling. Given that a significant quantity of fracking sand supply is scheduled to come online over the next 2 years, the proppant sand market could easily go into oversupply. U.S. Silica's oil and gas segment may (in the long term) only contribute about the same segment margin as the industrial and specialty segment, giving U.S. Silica total annual adjusted EBITDA of $115 million to $150 million. If this occurs, assuming EV/EBITDA of 7, U.S. Silica stock could fall another 30% to 40% from current levels."

After 45 years in the oil business and the last 20 as the owner of a oilfield service company I've decided that this slowdown is probably a blessing for the oil business especially here in the Permian Basin. This will give us a chance to get rid of some of the riffraff and useless people that always come with a boom. For the past year we've had an unemployment rate of 2.9% to 3.5% and decent help is hard to come by so hopefully some of the opportunists and marginal people will go on to the next opportunity. Maybe now I can order lunch without getting an attitude and maybe, just maybe, they'll bring the right order. So if your like me and have put back money over the past four years as every experienced oilfield worker should know to do we'll make it through. And for every dollar I don't make this year that's just less that I have to pay in taxes.

Low oil prices to impact fracking: Moodys
http://www.indmin.com/Article/3417569/Low-oil-prices-to-impa…

Crude prices below $60/bl could mean 30%-40% less spending by US oil and gas sector, which is likely to impact frac sand demand. However, owing to the nature of oil drilling and fracking, demand for proppants may not fall until as late as next year.

Crashing oil prices are likely to cut exploration and production (E&P) spending by US unconventional oil and gas companies, which will impact frac sand demand in the coming months, according to a report by rating agency Moodys.

"We estimate E&P capital spending will fall 20% from 2014 levels if oil prices average $75/bl, and decline 30%-40%, if prices remain below $60/bl" Moodys said.

Oil prices have fallen below the $60/barrel level and are likely to hit shale oil companies first because they are the highest cost crude producers.

The rig count has already started falling in the US, with a drop of 43 drilling rigs in December 2014 to 1,882 rigs compared to November.

Crude prices have collapsed in recent months due to low demand growth, high production by US shale oil firms, and the refusal of Opec to cut production.

In previous periods of falling oil prices, Opec has cut crude output to maintain prices. But it has refused to implement cuts this time, which has sent the US crude benchmark West Texas Intermediate (WTI) plummeting. The WTI price has halved in the last six months, to around $48/barrel in mid-January.

But due to the nature of oil drilling and hydraulic fracturing (fracking), demand for frac sand and proppants may not decline until next year.

The Department of Natural Resources (DNR) in Wisconsin, US, also said earlier this week that there has not yet been any indication of a slowdown in frac sand demand.

"Proppant demand will lag these cuts in spending; however, advancements in drilling and hydraulic fracturing technology will mitigate slowing demand to a degree," Moodys added.

"Against a back drop of falling WTI, energy companies will continue to use more sand per well to improve their production."

Frac sand capacity

Additional frac sand production will also put pressure on proppant prices. Hi-Crush Partners increased its production capacity by 3.6m tpa in 2014 through the expansion of its Augusta facility and Whitehall facility in Wisconsin.

US Silica is expected to add 3.8m tpa of new capacity in 2015 by expanding its Pacific plant in Missouri and developing a new frac sand mine and plant in Wisconsin, which will be online by the end of this year.

"It is uncertain at this time if the decline in oil prices will impact spending plans for new mines and plants that were targeted for delivery in 2016," Moodys said.

US Silica and Fairmount

US frac sand companies US Silica and Fairmount were in the best position to weather lower proppant demand due to a diversified customer base, compared to other firms.

"US Silica and Fairmount do not rely exclusively on oil and gas customers. In 2013, US Silica sold 50% of its volume shipments to its Industrial & Specialty segment and Fairmount sold 26% of its volume shipments to its Industrial & Recreational segment," Moodys said.

Meanwhile, other companies such as Hi-Crush and Preferred Proppants rely almost entirely on the energy sector.

US Silica and Fairmount also serve shale oil drillers, while Hi-Crush relies on the shale gas sector. The US Henry Hub spot gas price hit a 27-month low on 12 January at $2.90/mmBtu, and has languished since the shale gas boom.

Meanwhile, the outlook for WTI looks bleak in the short term. US bank Goldman Sachs cut its six-month prediction for WTI to $39/barrel, with crude prices only recovering in the second half of 2015 when US shale oil companies cut output.

U.S. Silica Posts Mixed Results
http://seekingalpha.com/article/2986596-u-s-silica-posts-mix…

Summary

After missing on EPS estimates by $0.02 and beating on revenue by $9 million, the market initially punished U.S. Silica's share price before it recovered.
With oil prices stabilizing in the $50 to low $60 range, this has allowed U.S. Silica to regain lost momentum.
A number of factors make U.S. Silica an attractive investment, including its smart investment in Cadre Proppants, growth in revenue, and a total increase in sales.
However, investors shouldn't expect rapid appreciation in share value like last year. Also, with potential uncertainty in the oil sector, this could lead to downward pressure.

http://seekingalpha.com/article/3121556-the-tide-went-in-and…

Smart Sand (http://seekingalpha.com/article/4017365-smart-sand-ipo-rests…) plat inner IPO

und

Select Sands (http://seekingalpha.com/symbol/CLICF)

hat ihn kürzlich geschafft;

andere schon länger notierte Peers sind

Emerge Energy Services
Hi-Crush Partners
Fairmount Santrol
Carbo Ceramics
