      CHONGQING, China, Sept. 16, 2013 /PRNewswire/

GKN Driveline continues its expansion in China with ground-breaking for the expansion of its production facilities in Chongqing.

GKN Chongqing Driveshaft (GDC) is investing $43.9 million to expand the plant which will cover an area of nearly 12,000 square meters when construction is completed in 2014. This builds on our existing highly successful operational base of eight plants."

GDC, established in August 2006, is a joint venture shared by GKN, Shanghai GKN Driveshaft Co., Ltd. (SDS) and China ChangAn Automobile Group. Its main products are CVJ shafts. Customers include ChangAn-Ford, ChangAn-Mazda, ChangAn-Suzuki, ChangAn, JAC, Great Wall, BAIC Motor and SGMW.

Commercial aerospace was strong while military aerospace and spares showed a continuation of the weaker demand evidenced in the first half. Global light vehicle production increased 4% with good growth in China and North America whilst Europe and Japan improved slightly. The weakness in construction and industrial markets continued while agricultural equipment demand remained broadly flat.

Boeing picks GKN to build advanced technology ‘Winglet’

Boeing has selected GKN plc to manufacture the Advanced Technology Winglet for the 737 MAX. Production of the winglets will take place at the GKN site at Cowes on the Isle of Wight in the United Kingdom with final assembly at GKN's facility in Orangeburg, South Carolina.

Already a market success, the 737 MAX has more than 1,600 orders from airlines around the world.

“We announced our first winglet contracts for Boeing aircraft in 2007 and this award reflects the on-going success of our growing relationship,” said Marcus Bryson, CEO, GKN Aerospace and Land Systems.

“It also draws on our expertise in the efficient manufacture of complex composite and metallic wing structures and makes full use of our ability to assemble this advanced structure. We are extremely proud to be part of the team that is producing this unique winglet - and to be involved with Boeing in creating this extremely efficient next-generation airframe."

Boeing’s newest family of single-aisle aircraft, the 737 MAX will build on the Next-Generation 737’s popularity and reliability while delivering to customers unsurpassed fuel efficiency in the single-aisle market. Development of the 737 MAX is on schedule with firm configuration achieved in July 2013. First flight is scheduled in 2016 with deliveries to customers beginning in 2017. GKN will deliver the first developmental winglet ship sets to Boeing in 2015.

UK Business Minister Michael Fallon said "This significant deal creates and secures hundreds of high skilled, long term engineering jobs on the Isle of Wight and across GKN's domestic supply chain.

"It also further strengthens the ties between Boeing and the UK, showing that this country can continue to be the supplier of choice to the world's leading aircraft manufacturers. That's why the Government is working in partnership with industry to deliver jobs and growth through our industrial strategy."

Boeing’s Advanced Technology Winglet is one of a number of design updates that will result in less drag and further optimize the 737 MAX performance, especially on longer-range missions. In total these updates will deliver an 8 percent per-seat operating cost advantage over future competition.

“Boeing is pleased that this agreement will build on our existing strong relationship with GKN,” said Sir Roger Bone, President of Boeing in the UK. “As Boeing celebrates 75 years of partnership with the UK in 2013, this agreement helps to ensure that our strong relationship with the UK aerospace industry continues for many years to come.”

GKN rating affirmed at 'BBB-' with stable outlook

      13 December 2013 | 07:40am

StockMarketWire.com - Aerospace and automotive engineering specialist GKN's long-term issuer default rating and senior unsecured rating have been affirmed at 'BBB-' by Fitch Ratings.

GKN's short-term IDR has been affirmed at 'F3 and Fitch says the outlook on the long term IDR is stable.

Fitch says GKN maintained a stable funds from operation margin of 10% for the 12 months to 30 June, (10.1% in 2012), due to top-line growth and good cost management, and some restructuring and integration charges relating to the Volvo Aerospace acquisition in the second half of 2012.

Fitch also says the earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, amortisation and rent margin was also stable at 12.4%, compared with 12.5% in 2012.

Fitch expects margins to rise slightly in 2013 as the group benefits from previous restructuring measures and begins to see the positive contribution from Volvo Aerospace.

GKN wins "multi-million pound" deal from Bombardier

Engineering group GKN has won a multi-million pound deal from Bombardier to make parts for the Canadian aircraft maker's new Global 7000 and 8000 business jets.

Bombardier Aerospace has chosen GKN's aerospace arm to design, develop and supply the composite integrated rudder and elevator for the ultra long-range aircraft.

GKN said the contract, the exact value of which it did not disclose, adds to "already significant" GKN Aerospace work on the aircraft.

The company's plant on the Isle of Wight in the UK will make the parts, with first deliveries to Bombardier in Belfast due from this year to 2026.

GKN Aerospace Europe & Special Products Chief Executive Neil McManus said: "This latest contract win illustrates both our growing relationship with Bombardier Aerospace."

GKN, which reports half-year results on July 29th, has said both its aerospace and automotive businesses are doing well despite currency headwinds, as a large proportion of its business is in dollars.

The company, which employs nearly 50,000 people in more than 30 countries, has also backed Britain's efforts to support the industry.

A GKN spokesman told Sharecast at Farnborough: "It is good in the UK because the government has recognised the role that this industry plays in wealth generation."

Shares in GKN rose 4.3p or 1.22% to 356p at 13:45 in London.

The engineer is forecast to report pre-tax profit of £581m, up from the previous year's £523m, with growth in the key European, US and Chinese markets.

"In terms of 2014, the trading patterns are well established hence attention is likely to focus as much on cash generation for the group which has been more disappointing than earnings over recent years," Numis said.
