Entführungen, verschwundene Kinder, Terroranschläge – der Strom täglicher Schreckensmeldungen reißt nicht ab und das Geschäft mit der Angst boomt. Auch das deutsche Traditionsunternehmen Bosch, vorrangig im Segment der Kraftfahrzeug-, Gebrauchsgüter- und Industrietechnik tätig, hat den Geist der Zeit erkannt und einen neuen mobilen Notruf-Service auf den Markt gebracht, der dem Wunsch nach mehr persönlicher Sicherheit gerecht werden soll.
Herzstück des Systems ist HiPer (High Precision Personal Location System), ein 140 Gramm schweres Gerät aus dem Hause GAP, das von der Größe einem gängigen Handy ähnelt. Ausgerüstet mit GPS-Empfänger und GSM-Funkmodul ist das Telematik-Endgerät in der Lage, Standortbestimmungen im Freien bis auf unter zehn Meter durchzuführen. Bei einem Notfall überträgt HiPer die aktuellen Koordinaten per SMS und baut zudem eine Sprechverbindung zum Anwender auf. Alle Notrufe gehen beim Bosch-Notruf- und Service-Center ein, wo das Personal den Standort des Hilfesuchenden ermittelt, die Sprechverbindung aufnimmt und gegebenenfalls umgehend Notfall-Maßnahmen einleitet.
Ausgelöst wird der Notruf über eine zentral auf dem Gerät angebrachte Servicetaste. Neben der Fähigkeit, den aktuellen Aufenthaltsort zu ermitteln, kann HiPer auch das Bewegungsprofil über einen zurückliegenden Zeitraum an das Service-Center übermitteln. Dazu speichert das Gerät kontinuierlich in einem frei wählbaren Zeitintervall bis zu 500 GPS-Ortungsdaten mit einer Genauigkeit von fünf bis zwanzig Meter ab. Befindet sich der Nutzer beispielsweise in einem Gebäude ohne GPS-Empfang, übermittelt das Gerät via GSM die letzten 24 Wegpunkte bis zum Betreten des Gebäudes sowie die vergangene Zeit seit der letzten Messung.
Die seitlich platzierte Gesprächstaste aktiviert zum einen die Annahme eingehender Gespräche, zum anderen startet sie bei Bedarf den Aufbau einer Sprechverbindung zu einer zweiten auf der SIM-Karte hinterlegten Rufnummer. Bei Bedarf lässt sich das Gerät auch so konfigurieren, dass eine Alarmmeldung abgesetzt wird, wenn der Gerätenutzer einen zuvor definierten Bereich verlässt. Ohne Vertrag kostet das Gerät nach Bosch-Angaben 998 Euro, mit Zweijahres-Vertrag inklusive Leitstellen-Diensten rund 400 Euro. Der Call-Center-Notfall-Service wird dann mit zusätzlichen 36 Euro pro Monat berechnet.

CybIT launches first portable telematics platform to combine personal location and emergency alert capabilities

HiPer combines satellite-based tracking to pinpoint user location with GSM messaging to make immediate help or support requests

Aimed at mobile, remote or vulnerable users

CAMBRIDGESHIRE, UK - September 5, 2001 - CybIT has launched HiPer, the first portable telematics platform to combine personal location and emergency alert technology, to provide powerful personal safety and security support for commercial and domestic users. The solution uses GPS satellite-based tracking capabilities to immediately pinpoint a user`s location in realtime, combined with GSM messaging capabilities that allow the user to call for help or support from emergency services, help centres or other designated response points, and tracking can also be carried out over the Internet. The solution is intended for mobile, remote or vulnerable users, and has an identical shape, look and feel to a mobile phone - making it the industry`s smallest portable telematics solution currently available.

HiPer is also the first mobile phone-style device to use the new Siemens TC35 dual band GSM module, which works on two different frequency bands to improve the range and reduce network saturation problems. This ensures that HiPer provides powerful personal safety capabilities regardless of a user`s location. The solution is aimed at children, senior and handicapped people, as well as commercial users, VIPs, policemen on duty, or any user who may be unable to contact emergency support or other backup rapidly, in an accident or dangerous situation. Concerned third parties can check a user`s location if authorised to do so, and HiPer also supports geo-fencing for exception-based reporting if a user enters certain areas - ensuring that a child has arrived on school grounds, for example, or notifying a parent when they leave.

"There`s obviously a strong market for this type of solution from parents who want to be able to quickly check the location of their children when they`re out playing, or from the concerned relatives of an elderly person who lives alone," said Richard Horsman, CEO, CybIT. "However, we also see a strong demand from the commercial sector, with applications including a social worker or nurse who has to make home visits to a potentially violent client, soldiers on wide-ranging or dangerous patrols, or a policeman in the city centre on a Friday night. And HiPer also supports mobile and remote users - surveyors working in isolated locations or other professional service providers, for example, or climbers who may be stranded by rapidly descending fog. We`re also considering incorporating `man-down` functionality into HiPer, to automatically raise an alarm and pinpoint a user`s location if they are unconscious or incapacitated.

"HiPer is the smallest portable telematics platform available on the market, and the only one within its application range to combine personal location and emergency alert capabilities. We`re increasingly seeing the improved safety and security benefits of this type of solution in the fleet and motor industries, but telematics capabilities have, to date, been relatively unexplored with regards to personal usage. And whereas commercially, the benefits include cost savings and efficiency improvements, here we`re looking at saving lives," Richard Horsman added.

HiPer`s key advantage over a mobile phone is that it allows users to summon help by pressing a single emergency button, which automatically forwards the user`s exact location. Users can call for help or support when in trouble, be called by third parties who want to check they`re OK, be called and located by emergency help centres, or call a main contact or an operator to be connected. There`s no need to fumble around with a dial pad or remember phone numbers, which can be difficult in an emergency situation. Users need only press either the emergency button, or a call button that supplies normal telephone functionality to a predefined number.

The solution can deliver 24 historical positions in a single message, providing significant cost saving opportunities across an organisation. It can also deliver an indication of the direction in which the user was heading, based on these historical reports, and can identify if a user is stationary, or - if travelling at 65 mph - has possibly been bundled into a vehicle.

CybIT launches GAP HiConnex asset management telematics unit

CybIT has launched the GAP HiConnex telematics unit, a low cost pocket-sized device that uses Global System for Mobile Communications (GSM) technology to enable the remote management of fixed assets. The HiConnex device can be configured to send an SMS message to a mobile phone or CybIT`s 24/7 bureau services when a sensor is triggered by, for example, low stock levels or power outages. The solution will enable more efficient and cost-effective management and supervision of remote buildings and industrial applications including vending and ticket machines, heating and air-conditioning systems, water and waste disposal systems.

The GAP HiConnex device has eight input and four output channels to allow a fixed asset to be configured to respond to a variety of events. CybIT will provide support to analyse a customer`s needs and programme the unit to their exact requirements. CybIT`s bureau services will also provide round-the-clock support, allowing units to be monitored on a 24/7 basis. Possible applications for the GAP HiConnex include:

Remotely controlling stock and maintaining security of a vending machine that sends an SMS message to the user or CybIT bureau if stock is low or the power has been disconnected
· Monitoring the status of an air conditioning system that alerts an engineer if it breaks down
· Combining GAP HiConnex with movement sensors on gaming machines to alert managers if the machines are moved or to notify when the cash boxes needs emptying
· Remotely monitoring and controlling temperature in industrial refrigeration units

OrangeArrows Formula 1 team selects CybIT solution to improve security and fleet management for multi-million pound transport and show vehicles

OrangeArrows Formula 1 team has selected CybIT to join its Official Supplier Programme. CybIT will install GAP BCmini telematics units in the OrangeArrows team`s fleet of ten Grand Prix transporters and back-up vehicles and three show cars. For the first time, this will enable the Arrows team to monitor the location of its mobile assets and significantly improve the security of its multi-million pound fleet as it travels to 17 Grand Prix races and other events around the world each year.

Using CybIT`s geo-fencing technology, Arrows will be able to establish `electronic fences` around its vehicles. Any movement outside of a designated area will automatically alert the CybIT bureau. A Position Lock Alarm is also activated if a vehicle is moved when the engine isn`t running, and if any of Arrows` vehicles are stolen, the CybIT bureau will be able to track the vehicle using street-level mapping to assist the police in its successful recovery.

"Through CybIT`s bureau services and web-based fleet management solution, we will know exactly where our key vehicles are at any time, from anywhere in the world," said Steve Hood, Arrows` Head of Marketing. "And by using tracking devices on our display cars, we can make sure that the vehicles, which are often out of our sight, are not moved out of agreed areas or used inappropriately."

Liest sich sehr gut. Neue Kamelle! Irgendwer in Engeland
mußte ja der Vertriebspartner sein. Wußte bislang nur von
dem Datafleet in Englisch ist aber ne alte Kmelle. Danke
für INFO. Müssen aber mit steigenden Kursen bestimmt noch
warten, bis genug Renten verkauft sind. Aber so ab Ostern
sehen wir mindestens Emissionspreise!!!!! We´ll see.

Im Ernst Du glaubst doch nicht etwa dass sich GAP die Gelegenheit nehmen lässt solch eine Kooperation zu melden.
Vielleicht läufts ja wiedermal wie bei der NET AG.
Erst dürfen sich mal ein paar Fonds ausserbörslich eindecken und dann wird es an die große Glocke gehängt.

Cybit provides in-car navigational information and breakdown services using call centres, mobile phone links, and GPS satellite navigation. Under the agreement with Siemens, it will co-market GPS Pilot, a hands-free kit for Siemens’ phones which incorporates GPS technology.

Interviewed at CeBIT in Hanover today, Cybit’s managing director Brian Robins predicted that sales could top 40,000 units this year, ultimately reaching 25% of the entire UK mobile market – over 5m units.

In addition to 30% of the hardware sales revenue, Cybit will make money from the £85 annual subscription to their information service. Robins predicted £4.5m sales in 2001, giving Cybit around £1.5m revenue plus subscription fees.

The kit will be sold directly to customers via retail chains such as Carphone Warehouse, alongside Siemens’ mobile phone range. Cybit’s service allows drivers to call breakdown assistance, navigational advice or tourist services over a mobile phone link.

The technology is already on sale in Germany, via ADAC (the German equivalent of the RAC). Unfortunately, as Robins pointed out, it is sold solely as a breakdown assistance service; and the customers who can afford it tend to drive expensive cars, which do not break down very often. Sales in Germany have thus been unimpressive. But with the technology opened up to the other services provided by Cybit, sales could be more extensive.

Future developments in mobile phone technology will not affect Cybit and Siemens’ current monopoly in this area, Robins explained. US legislation requires all mobile phones sold from 2002 on to give out their location to the emergency services, but this technology is bulky, expensive and complicated for network operators to implement. The GPS kit does not even require network operators’ consent to function, and provides a much more accurate position.

The emphasis is on retail consumers, but Cybit will also be marketing the GPS Pilot to commercial clients as a fleet management tool. The huge size of the potential market will push Cybit to expand its call centres later this year.
