Nach dieser schönen Würdigung von JB ist es mir fast peinlich, an diesen zur Bierreklame verhunzten Song zu erinnern. Ich tu`s trotzdem, weil ein Witzbold den damals in einer Studentenkneipe jeden Abend als Rausschmeißer aufgelegt hat - wenn eben keiner mehr bleiben durfte wegen der Sperrstunde...

@cambo: ich hatte Samstag zwar besuch, so dass ich die sendung nicht live sehen konnte, hab aber dann bei der aufzeichnung gleich an dich denken müssen, als die süße Katie die bühne betrat... aber dann war das bei dir in den bergen ja fast so wie früher in der DDR im Dresdener hinterland und der sächsischen schweiz mit dem elbetal... – das nannte doch „das tal der ahnungslosen“, weil man da kein westfernsehen empfangen konnte – anscheinend werden nun auch die alpen zu einem blackout gebiet durch den vielen schneefall...

@missy: ich habe damals Guess Who indirekt kennengelernt – ich war ein großer fan der schweizer hard-rocker Krokus und die hatten eine tolle coverversion von „American Woman“ aufgenommen(imho bis heute noch die beste version, die es von diesem song gibt) und da hab ich mich auch mit der originalband beschäftigt. aber ich überlege die ganze zeit von welcher band ich Burton Cummings noch als sänger kenne – ich habe da etwas im hinterkopf, dass seinerzeit Winfried Trenkler bei „Rock Inn“ im WDR eine band gespielt hat wo auch der Cummings fiel und die mir auch sehr gut gefiel, dank seiner kräftigen stimme. muss ich mal nachchecken...

...hmm – dieses rätsel zu lösen ist meine einfachste übung... – das war eindeutig Purple Schulz & Neue Heimat in dem song „Der letzte macht das Licht aus“ – die singen dort ...vielleicht wissen wir mehr, wenn ordnung nicht das halbe, sondern ganze leben wär...

Um auf Guess Who (bzw. BTO) zurückzukommen: Wie der Name schon sagt, gibt’s auf der DVD „Every Song Tells A Story“ nicht nur die ganzen zeitlosen Songs aus der Feder von Randy Bachmann, sondern auch recht amüsant erzählte Hintergrundgeschichten dazu.

So soll „Let It Ride“ z.B. während eines Verkehrsstaus auf dem Weg zu einem Konzert in New Orleans entstanden sein. Der Song ist seinerzeit bei mir etwas untergegangen – zu Unrecht, wie mir jetzt nach mehrmaligem Hören scheint .....

Cambo, allzu viel kenne ich ja von Katie Melua nicht, aber "The Closest Thing To Crazy" ist definitiv mein Lieblingssong von ihr.

Die Lyrics dazu habe ich ja schon damals gepostet, als du das erste Mal auf sie aufmerksam gemacht hast. Damals habe ich nur eine kurze Hörprobe bringen können, weil ich die wunderschöne Unplugged-Aufnahme, die mir irgendwo in den Untiefen meiner Musikdateien abhanden gekommen ist, nicht gefunden habe. Aber jetzt ist sie doch noch aufgetaucht :

Touch Me bringt mich gedanklich erneut zurück auf Katie Melua, meine derzeitige Lieblingsinterpretin.
Sie trat ja vergangenen Samstag in Wetten dass ... auf. Leider war das Fernsehbild wegen der extremen Schneefälle gestört und von ihren "Chinesischen Fahrrädern" war nahezu nichts zu hören.



Und weil vor mir ein Gläschen Rotwein steht, habe ich herausgesucht ihr ...

Rebel, bei mir beschränkt sich das, was ich früher von Guess Who exzessiv gehört habe, neben „Bright Eyes“ und „No Time“ auch nur auf die die superlange Version von „American Woman“ und den Doppelpack „No Sugar Tonight/New Mother Nature“. „Clap For The Wolfman“mit der Originalstimme von Wolfman Jack war natürlich auch sehr populär.

„Runnin’ Back Thru Canada“ aus dem Jahr 2001 umfasst das gesamte Repertoire der von Bachmann/Cummings geschriebenen Songs. Es ist meiner Meinung nach für ein Live-Album so gut gelungen, dass man gerne auch bei ein paar bisher vernachlässigten Nummern wie z.B. "Let It Ride" etwas genauer hinhört. Und die Stimme von Burton Cummings hat über die Jahre keine bisschen gelitten ...
