In die entgegengesetzte Richtung... für meinen Geschmack
steuert eine andere Kultfigur aus den 60er Jahren.....
deren erste CD Aufnahme ich damals scheinbar über-hört
habe, zwischenzeitlich 73 Jahre alt und eine Stimme.......
... dunkel wie das Raunen im All... ( )
Platte "The Transformed Man", habe ich ihn mir endlich
Common People
WILLIAM SHATNER
(featuring Joe Jackson)
She came from Greece. She had a thirst for knowledge.
She studied sculpture at Saint Martin`s College.
That`s where I--caught her eye.
She told me that her dad was loaded.
I said, in that case I`ll have a rum and Coca-Cola.
She said fine, and in thirty seconds time she said...
I wanna live like common people.
I wanna do whatever common people do.
I wanna sleep with common people.
I wanna sleep with common people like you.
Well, what else could I do? I said, I`ll see what I can do!
I took her to a supermarket.
I don`t know why, but I had to start it somewhere.
So it started there!
I said, pretend you`ve got no money.
She just laughed and said, oh, you`re so funny!
I said, yeah? Well I can`t see anyone else smiling in here!
Are you sure you want to live like common people?
You want to see whatever common people see?
You want to sleep with common people?
You want to sleep with common people like me?
But she didn`t understand...
...she just smiled and held my hands!
Rent a flat above a shop!
Cut your hair and get a job!
Smoke some fags and play some pool.
Pretend you never went to school.
But still you`ll never get it right.
When you`re lyin` in bed at night,
Watching roaches climb the wall.
If you call your dad he could stop it all.
You`ll never live like common people!
You`ll never do whatever common people do!
You`ll never fail like common people!
You`ll never watch your life slide out of view,
and dance, and drink, and screw!
Because there`s nothing else to do!

-----------THE TEST OF TIME-----------
Tonight I know the kiss we share
Is sweet beyond compare
But will it stand the test of time
The lovely glow that`s in your eyes
The music in your sighs
Oh will they stand the test of time
Time changes mountains time changes rivers
Time changes winter to spring
Time changes everything they say
But if the thrill we feel tonight
Is really really right
You`ll never take your hand from mine
And our love will stand the test of time
Time changes mountains time changes rivers
Time changes winter to spring
Time changes everything they say
But if the thrill we feel tonight
Is really really right
You`ll never take your hand from mine
And our love will stand the test

There She Goes Again
The Velvet Underground
prod. by Andy Warhol
There she goes again
She`s out on the streets again
She`s down on her knees, my friend
But you know she`ll never ask you please again
Now take a look, there`s no tears in her eyes
She won`t take it from just any guy, what can you do
You see her walkin` on down the street
Look at all your friends she`s gonna meet
You better hit her
There she goes again
She`s knocked out on her feet again
She`s down on her knees, my friend
But you know she`ll never ask you please again
Now take a look, there`s no tears in her eyes
Like a bird, you know she would fly, what can you do
You see her walkin` on down the street
Look at all your friends that she`s gonna meet
You better hit her
Now take a look, there`s no tears in her eyes
Like a bird, you know she will fly, fly, fly away
See her walking on down the street
Look at all your friends that she`s gonna meet
She`s gonna bawl and shout
She`s gonna work it
She`s gonna work it out, bye bye
Bye bye baby

---------------PRETTY PARACETAMOL--------------
Pretty paracetamol you soothe my aching brow,
I need you when my heard is spinning round,
I look into the looking glass but none of them is me,
It takes at least an hour to pin me down,
First impressions often lie,
They always fool the naked eye.
I hold you gently on my tongue and then you drift away,
It`s hard to read the writing on the label,
I force my hands out sideways but I can`t resist the strain,
And it don`t help me, no it don`t help me,
First impressions often lie,
They always fool the naked eye.
I think I recognize a friendly face I`ve seen before,
(don`t you despair)
It`s moving far too quickly to be sure,
Tangled in a web of twisted memories and lies,
(There`s no one there)
I`m fighting for a reason to go on.
Pretty paracetamol you soothe my aching brow,
I need you when my heard is spinning round,
I multiply myself by two in the mirror of the wall,
But it don`t help me, no it don`t help me,
First impressions often lie,
They always fool the naked eye.
I think I`ve lost control, I think I`ve lost control,
I think I`ve lost control, I think I`ve lost control...

------------DESTINATION PARADISE------------
Oh my fingers won`t tap
Or stay still in my lap
I`m glued to the box
(to the) speeches and fireworks
Get up off of that kitchen floor
I don`t know what you`re crying for
Get up out of that comfy chair
I can take you anywhere
I`m your strong defender with a heart of ice
And I`ve no illusions that what I do is right
And so it`s destination paradise
For you and I
The windows are closed
So nobody knows
It`s raining out there
On the poor and the powerless
Get up off of that kitchen floor
I don`t know what you`re crying for
Get up out of that comfy chair
I can take you anywhere
I`m your strong defender with a heart of ice
And I`ve no illusions that what I do is right
And so it`s destination paradise

Mystify
Paradise Lost
Faced with shame,
I accept a will that that’s long departed
Phased with games,
I resent a world I once regarded
But now it seems the changes must be made…
Celebrate! terrify me
Don’t mystify your love
Celebrate! terrify me
Don’t mystify your love
Laced with shame,
I reject a thrill that’s so misguided
Faith in flames,
I’m exempt to blame that’s so demanded
But now it seems that changes have been made…..
Celebrate! terrify me
Don’t mystify your love

BLOWIN` IN THE WIND
How many roads must a man walk down
Before you call him a man?
Yes, `n` how many seas must a white dove sail
Before she sleeps in the sand?
Yes, `n` how many times must the cannon balls fly
Before they`re forever banned?
The answer, my friend, is blowin` in the wind,
The answer is blowin` in the wind.
How many times must a man look up
Before he can see the sky?
Yes, `n` how many ears must one man have
Before he can hear people cry?
Yes, `n` how many deaths will it take till he knows
That too many people have died?
The answer, my friend, is blowin` in the wind,
The answer is blowin` in the wind.
How many years can a mountain exist
Before it`s washed to the sea?
Yes, `n` how many years can some people exist
Before they`re allowed to be free?
Yes, `n` how many times can a man turn his head,
Pretending he just doesn`t see?
The answer, my friend, is blowin` in the wind,
The answer is blowin` in the wind.
PETER, PAUL AND MARY
Peter Yarrow, born New York, NY, May 31, 1938
Noel „Paul" Stookey, born Baltimore, MD, Nov 30, 1937
Mary Ellin Travers, born Nov 7, 1937
PETER YARROW:
It was Bobby Dylan`s writing that put us on another level. A big controversy started when Albert Grossman brought in the acetate of Bobby`s new solos. Albert thought the big song was „Don`t Think Twice." That, he said, was the hit.
We went crazy over „Blowing in the Wind." We went into the studio and released „Blowing in the Wind" as a single. We didn`t wait for an album, we just put it out. Instinctively, we knew the song carried the moment of its own time.
MARY TRAVERS:
If I had to pick one song, my softest spot, it would be „Blowing in the Wind." If you could imagine the March on Washington with Martin Luther King and singing that song in front of a quarter of a million people, black and white, who believed they could make America more generous and compassionate in a nonviolent way, you begin to know how incredible that belief was.
And still is. To sing the line, „How many years can some people exist before they`re allowed to be free?" in front of some crummy little building that refuses to admit Jews in 1983, the song elicits the same response now as it did then. It adresses the same questions. „How many deaths will it take till they know that too many people have died?" Sing that line in a prison yard where political prisoners from El Salvador are being kept. Or sing it with Bishop Tu Tu. Same response. Same questions.
Joe Smith, Off The Record, London, 1989, pp. 161-162.
Schon Ende 1963 hat Marlene Dietrich eine deutsche Fassung aufgenommen
DIE ANTWORT WEISS GANZ ALLEIN DER WIND
(Blowing In The Wind)
Music and Lyrics: Bob Dylan. German Lyrics: Heinz Bradtke
Recorded London, 1963, November 1. Arrangement and musical direction: Burt Bacharach. Matrix: Â 7 XRA 2762; First published as single on Electrola EG 9407. Also on E 22612. Published on the CD: „Mythos und Legende”.Time: 3:58
Note:
After the tremendous success of „Sag mir, wo die Blumen sind” Marlene decided to do this German cover version of the Bob Dylan song. It did not exactly become a hit and Marlene did not include this one in her stage show. In Germany it went to Nr. 10 (from Nr. 20 in December 1963) in the January Radio Favourites.
Und lindert damit keine Not.
