Danke!

AERES is a privately owned, drug-development company with over 15 years experience of working with more than 20 biopharmaceutical industry partners to generate therapeutic antibody candidates. AERES also has its own expanding drug development pipeline, which includes a therapeutic antibody ready to enter clinical trials.
AERES` strong track record of success is built upon its proprietary expertise in antibody humanization. AERES has generated 23 therapeutic antibody candidates on behalf of its industrial partners, 6 of which are currently in clinical trials.
AERES’ technology, which entails the genetic modification of mouse monoclonal antibodies to their human or "humanized" equivalent, has effectively solved the problem of immunogenicity associated with earlier attempts to use mouse antibodies for therapy.
Today, antibody humanization is a clinically-validated technology with 6 such therapeutic antibody products already on the market and another 70 humanized antibodies in clinical trials. Moreover, humanization is the dominant technology being exploited by biopharmaceutical companies for the development of therapeutic antibodies.
AERES has considerable expertise in the development of stable mammalian cell lines expressing recombinant antibodies using its proprietary Supervector™ gene expression system. AERES has generated more than a dozen mammalian cell lines for its collaborative partners. AERES is building a broad and robust product portfolio targeting life threatening and debilitating diseases (including cardiovascular, infectious and inflammatory diseases as well as cancer) with a single drug class - therapeutic antibodies. AERES is expanding its drug pipeline through acquisitions, in-licensing and co-development agreements with strategic partners.
AERES` leading drug candidate (ABC-48) is a humanized antibody against P-selectin. This therapeutic antibody has undergone significant pre-clinical development and is scheduled to enter the clinic in 2005. The clinical target for this antibody is prevention of post-operative thrombosis without the bleeding risk normally associated with current therapies. AERES is also developing a second therapeutic antibody candidate (ABC-120) for the prevention of malaria in travellers and military personnel.

AERES Biomedical and Biotest AG Successfully Complete Antibody Engineering Project

Date: January 26 2005
London, UK, 31st January, 2005 - AERES Biomedical, Ltd. (London, UK) announced today that it had successfully completed the engineering of the monoclonal antibody BT-062 in a collaborative effort with Biotest AG (Dreieich, Germany, Xetra:522720.DE). The candidate is directed against a tumor-specific target expressed by multiple myeloma and is in development for this life-threatening tumour of the blood.
"Our collaboration with Biotest once again highlights AERES` expertise in the field of antibody engineering," said Tarran Jones, PhD, CEO of AERES. "Our scientists have been exploiting these skills on behalf of the drug development community worldwide for over 16 years, helping to rapidly progress at least eight antibody-based drugs into the clinic. The list of drug candidates humanized by AERES scientists includes Tysabri(r), which has recently gained FDA regulatory approval to treat multiple sclerosis. We are delighted to provide our support to Biotest to accelerate the development of this therapeutic antibody."
"We are highly pleased about the fruitful collaboration with AERES. After BT-062 had shown impressive efficacy in an animal model of the disease last year, this is the next important step towards the clinical development of the candidate", said Frank Osterroth, PhD, Head of Monoclonal Antibody Projects of Biotest.

CDR is a synonym for complementarity determining region.
The CDR-grafting strategy was first invented at the Medical Research Council (MRC) Laboratory of Molecular Biology by Dr. Greg Winter and patented by the MRC in the late 1980`s. This humanisation technology was originally developed to address the problem of the HAMA (Human Anti-Mouse Antibody) response, which had effectively prevented the therapeutic use of mouse monoclonal antibodies up to this time.
CDR-grafting, or humanisation, involves the genetic transfer of mouse CDRs - which are responsible for antigen binding - into human frameworks of a variable region. A variable region is one domain of a immunoglobulin chain, a whole antibody itself comprising of one light and one heavy immunoglobulin chain. An important aid to the process of humanisation is molecular modelling, which allows the 3-dimensional structure of the antibody to be carefully analysed and key murine framework residues important for antibody function to be identified for preservation in the humanised antibody.
AERES Biomedical Ltd. is a UK based biopharmaceutical research and development company created to:
- Enable the biopharmaceutical industry to exploit AERES expertise and skills in antibody humanization, engineering and expression.
- Identify, in-license and develop its own antibody-based therapeutic agents through to
proof of principle before securing commercial alliances with pharmaceutical companies for their further development.
- Develop and improve its in-house antibody-based proprietary technologies to generate new drug candidates against novel targets.
