Devotion chose to work with Ayla because of the company's track record and technical capabilities. Additionally, Ayla's platform will let Devotion link to its customers in China through many of the country's leading social networks. Ayla is building an Internet of Things cloud in China to serve local manufacturers and consumers, and has built out a full team in China, including engineering and cloud operations to support customers in country.

"The rapid pace of construction and urbanization in China and many other markets in the world makes technologies like Ayla's platform indispensable," said Yang Kun, General Manager for Devotion. "Remote monitoring and service will allow us increase the safety and reliability of our products as well as help our customers better manage their costs."

Founded as a joint venture with Italy's Riello Group in 2000, Devotion specializes in heating systems, air purifiers and other building appliances. It holds a leading market position in many countries in Eastern Europe, South America and Asia.

Ayla's mission is to provide the world with the first truly agile platform for the Internet of Things, and to allow our manufacturing partners to market their connected products on a global basis. Ayla achieves its high degree of flexibility through a seamless fabric of interconnected elements, including embedded agents for devices, cloud-based back-end infrastructure and services, and intelligent application libraries.

The process of turning conventional products and product lines into Internet-enabled devices with Ayla's technology is fairly straightforward. NXP Semiconductors, Broadcom, STMicroelectronics and Murata Manufacturing among others already produce communications modules compatible that seamlessly link to Ayla's cloud services. Manufacturers need only integrate these modules into their products, often by replacing existing modules in the same socket. Once purchased, consumers need only activate the device with a cell phone or computer.

Ayla has provisioned the hardware, software and networking assets on its cloud to economic in a way to optimize performance while minimizing cost and bandwidth. In most cases, manufacturers can bundle lifetime connectivity to Ayla's cloud into the price of its products.

Built-in data analytics enable real-time learning and a virtual device management system allows manufacturers to quickly react to this learning and modify their products -- even after they are deployed in the field.

Customers include global producers of air conditioning systems, leading fire and safety equipment vendors and the largest Chinese language web portal in the world as well as emerging innovators in IoT such as LockState and Owlet.

"We are very excited to collaborate with Devotion. While the market for connected consumer devices is large, the opportunity for linking commercial devices is potentially even greater," said David Friedman, CEO and co-founder of Ayla Networks. "Connecting the world's appliances and infrastructure will improve safety, but also teach manufacturers about wear and tear as well as how consumers actually use their products. The Internet of Things will be a learning experience on many levels."
