ARCADIS Wins $82 million contract to improve environment and quality of life for service members at Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst

October 2, 2014 - ARCADIS (EURONEXT: ARCAD), the world's leading natural and built asset design and consultancy firm has been selected by The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Tulsa District to complete performance-based environmental remediation activities at Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst  (JB-MDL) in New Jersey. Under this 10-year, $82 million firm-fixed-price contract, with $16 million authorized to date, ARCADIS will support JB-MDL's mission by restoring 104 sites impacted by historical operations. This contract will support the Air Force in meeting the Office of Secretary of Defense (OSD) goals of achieving Response Complete at 90 percent of the defense environmental restoration program (DERP) sites by 2018 and 95 percent by 2021.

The nature of the environmental impacts at JB-MDL include petroleum hydrocarbons, chlorinated solvents, polychlorinated biphenyl (PCBs), landfills, soil, ground water and surface water. Contaminant mass is present as non-aqueous phase liquids (NAPLs), dissolved in water, and in soils.  Both proven cleanup technologies such as soil removal, soil vapor extraction (SVE), air sparging (AS), monitored natural attenuation (MNA), and product recovery will be deployed as well as more innovative techniques such as in-situ chemical oxidation (ISCO), permeable reactive barriers (PRB), directed groundwater recirculation (DGR), enhanced reductive dechlorination (ERD) and in-situ bioremediation (ISB) will be applied to meet these objectives.

The project will build on previous successful site cleanups at other Department of Defense facilities in New Jersey and throughout the US.

"This award will be instrumental in helping our clients meet their goals for site restoration, while supporting one of ARCADIS' key goals of creating exceptional and sustainable outcomes for our clients," said Gary Coates, CEO for ARCADIS US activities.
