Cray Refreshes Storage Line With New Cray Sonexion 2000 System

SEATTLE, WA--(Marketwired - Nov 13, 2014) - Global supercomputer leader Cray Inc. (NASDAQ: CRAY), the world's leading expert in large-scale parallel storage systems for high performance computing (HPC) and advanced data analytics, today announced the launch of the Cray® Sonexion® 2000 system -- the latest addition to its line of scale-out Lustre® storage solutions.

The new Sonexion system combines Cray's expertise in designing, scaling and managing end-to-end Lustre solutions with a unique architecture that allows for maximum scalability. Sonexion 2000 features 50 percent more performance and capacity than its predecessor in the same storage footprint, and provides more than 45 gigabytes-per-second of performance and two petabytes of useable capacity in a single rack.

Reliability, availability and serviceability enhancements are bolstered by GridRAID, a new declustered parity protection system for Sonexion. GridRAID accelerates rebuild times by up to three-and-a-half times more than conventional hardware RAID6. Through Cray Cluster Connect, the Cray Sonexion 2000 works seamlessly with any Linux cluster.

Available now, the Cray Sonexion 2000 system is a fully integrated, scale-out Lustre storage system designed for a broad range of supercomputing workloads. The system can scale throughput performance to nearly two terabytes-per-second in a single file system. Sonexion 2000 also features an increase in Scalable Storage Unit (SSU) useable capacity with up to 360TB per SSU.

Several of the world's leading high performance computing centers have recently signed contracts for Cray Sonexion 2000 systems, including the Swiss National Supercomputing Centre (CSCS) in Lugano, Switzerland, the Met Office in the United Kingdom, as well as the Los Alamos National Laboratory and the Army Research Laboratory in the United States.

Complementing the Cray Sonexion 2000 system is Cray's comprehensive line of storage and data management solutions.
