SUNNYVALE, CA--(Marketwired - Dec 15, 2014) - Fortinet® (NASDAQ: FTNT) -- a global leader in high-performance network security, today announced that RAD, a leading Telecom Access solutions and products vendor, has selected Fortinet's FortiGate®-VM virtual Next-Generation Firewall appliance for best-of-breed security in its offering for Distributed Network Functions Virtualization (D-NFV) at the customer edge. The joint solution, available via the RAD D-NFV Alliance ecosystem, is designed for service providers and Managed Security Service Providers (MSSPs) and represents another milestone in Fortinet's strategy to provide feature-rich virtual security solutions for enterprises and service providers.

In September 2013, as an enhancement to its award-winning Service Assured solutions, RAD launched its first-to-the-market D-NFV-enabled devices. These integrate L2/L3 NIDs with a powerful x86 platform for hosting virtual network functions, enabling service providers to offer new virtualized functionalities at the customer edge in an agile and cost effective manner. Thanks to RAD's D-NFV offering, service providers and MSSPs can quickly and easily roll out new advanced network and security capabilities including optional service chaining, with minimal upfront capital expenditures. In addition to ensuring a better user experience with powerful service assurance tools, it offers a flexible architecture combining cloud-based services and virtualization at the customer site.

With Fortinet's FortiGate-VM, RAD's D-NFV engine offers its service provider customers a comprehensive virtual security platform for protection from a broad array of threats across physical, virtual and hybrid environments. These features, deployed according to customers' needs, include antivirus, firewall, VPN, intrusion prevention (IPS), antispam, antispyware, Web filtering and traffic shaping amongst others. The robust security solution is also available for mission-critical communications such as required by power utilities and public transportation.

Fortinet's FortiGate-VMs are kept up to date automatically by Fortinet's FortiGuard® Services, which helps ensure protection against the most damaging, content-based threats from email and Web traffic such as viruses, worms, intrusions, other unwanted network traffic and more -- around the clock and around the world.

Finally, FortiGate-VM supports all leading hypervisors including VMware, Microsoft Windows Server Hyper-V, KVM, Citrix XenServer, among others.

"RAD and Fortinet were among the first innovators to publicly demonstrate a live, ETSI-approved Proof-of-Concept (PoC) that integrates Fortinet's security platform within our Distributed Network Functions Virtualization offering," said Ulik Broida, VP Marketing and Business Development at RAD. "Via the RAD D-NFV Alliance, this combined solution is now available to our customers, who can enjoy broad security solutions that are highly reliable and easy to manage, maintain and scale," he added.
