BWI, TUI & Commerzbank win SAMS Award 2015
Aachen, Germany: 3rd March 2015.
Aspera congratulates this year's winners of the 2015 SAMS Award
competition, all of whom use Aspera technology and expertise for their
software license management. BWI Informationstechnik GmbH, the IT service
provider of the German Armed Forces, was honored with first place for
exemplary implementation of enterprise-wide software asset and license
management strategies. Also receiving awards were TUI InfoTec GmbH and
Commerzbank AG. The highlight of this year's International Conference for
Software Asset Management Strategies (SAMS) was the first prize being
awarded to an Aspera customer for the third time, joining a long line-up of
winning Aspera customers behind Deutsche Post DHL, Voith and Evonik
Industries.
The following criteria were used by a panel of experts to evaluate the
nominated companies' performances:
- significant reduction of software costs
- implementation of and compliance with security policies
- prevention of over- and under-licensing
- reduction of overall expenses
- successful implementation of reporting solutions
- enterprise-wide coordination of software acquisition processes
- management of server licenses
BWI Informationstechnik GmbH took first prize at the SAMS Awards for its
"ELIMA" project. A particular challenge of this project was to compile the
complete inventory of client and server software under the highest security
regulations. The success of the project is therefore noteworthy for the
high inventory level (98%) for servers while meeting the requirements of
Standard 19770-1. The optimization of the licensing demand ultimately
resulted in significant financial savings. Claudia Frank from the license
management group at BWI explained: "through the licensing optimization of
the operating environment, costs have been reduced by a factor of four."
The second place prize went to TUI InfoTec and their project "LiMa". Within
14 months TUI used SmartTrack by Aspera to successfully build a tool-based
license management system, and subsequently has achieved a coverage of
licenses equivalent to 90% of the enterprise-wide deployed software's
