"I wish to thank the Award Nominators for their thoughtful considerations and selection of this year's longlist of artists. They have provided the Jury Panel with excellent candidates for this year's longlist," said Edward Burtynsky, Chair of the Scotiabank Photography Award jury. "Each one of these distinguished artists has a distinctive body of mature work which reflects a high level of excellence in contemporary Canadian photography."

Founded in 2010, the Scotiabank Photography Award is designed to provide support to a mid to late career artist as he or she reaches for the next level of national and international recognition.

"Scotiabank has a passion for the arts and has a long history of supporting artists, culture, and heritage in communities across Canada," said Barbara Mason, Group Head and Chief Human Resources Officer at Scotiabank. "We are proud to play a role in celebrating outstanding Canadian contemporary photographers. The arts expose us to new ideas and allow us to see the world through a different lens."

Scotiabank's commitment to photography was recently underscored by the Bank's $10 million donation to the National Gallery of Canada for the creation of the Canadian Photography Institute.
