Australian state of Qld signs US$87.3 mln smart card contract BRISBANE, Jul 18, 2003 (Asia In Focus via COMTEX) -- The Australian state of Queensland today signed a A$134 million (US$87.3 million) contract with CUBIC TRANSPORTATION SYSTEMS, an Australian subsidiary of the California-based CUBIC CORPORATION. The 12-year contract is for the roll out of electronic integrated public transport ticketing which will start next year. * All bus, train and ferry operators will start charging the same fares and concessions in an area from Noosa to Coolangatta and west to Helidon from July 1 next year. * The first smart cards, which can have fare credit added to them at station machines and over the internet, will be rolled out from late 2004. |
