. Growing demand for smart cards 18 Aug 2003 The use of smart cards will greatly increase. A study of trends by industrial market research company, The Freedonia Group, predicts that the global demand for smart card products and services will increase by 11 per cent until 2006. Banks will increasingly use smart cards, to reduce magnetic card fraud. This will be assisted by the continuing implementation of interoperability standards. The study predicts increasing use of memory-only pay telephone cards, as well as greater use of multifunction smart cards.
