. // New IP@SS component: camera at check-in ICTS has introduced a camera as an additional component of the IP@SS check-in unit, within the framework of the pilot trial conducted at Newark Liberty International Airport. The camera is being used to take photographs of passengers checking in for the daily high-risk flight. Photographs are taken of consenting passengers only; the procedure is conducted on a voluntary basis. The photo is stored on each passenger’s IP@SS smart card, which remains in his/her possession. At the gate, the passenger’s photo is read from the smart card, displayed on the screen, and matched against the individual about to board. This serves as a second identity verification measure, in addition to the matching of the passenger’s biometric signature, which is also stored on the smart card, thus further enhancing the level of security. http://www.icts-int.com/set.html . |
