World’s Fastest Growing Brand Looks to the Future

SAMSUNG Electronics showcase new product portfolio and signal intent to lead the world of consumer electronics

ISTANBUL — October 27, 2003 — The world’s fastest growing brand today proved why it is rated so highly by consumers around the world by showcasing its portfolio of products in the wonderful surroundings of Istanbul. In his presentation to the show, Mr. Jong-Yong Yun, Vice Chairman and CEO of SAMSUNG Electronics, showed how SAMSUNG has achieved continuing profitability as well as dramatic growth in brand value to establish the Korean electronics giant at the forefront of the industry.
The event featured presentations by top SAMSUNG executives, including Vice Chairman and CEO Jong -Yong Yun and an opportunity for those attending to witness at first hand the company’s impressive product range. SAMSUNG’s latest offerings in mobile handsets, digital TVs and home entertainment were also unveiled during the event.

The company’s determination to become the leader in the Digital Convergence Revolution was outlined in Mr Yun’s opening speech. One significant announcement was the restructuring of the business portfolio into four strategic business areas: Digitall Home, Digitall Office, Digitall Mobile and Digitall Component. Mr Yun also revealed the key businesses within the four strategic business areas: home networking, EV-DO wireless network products, the Infomobile exchange system for wired and wireless business communication, and the 533 MHz mobile CPU.

SAMSUNG’s commitment to the investment in people and technology was confirmed by Mr. Yun to ensure that the company would continue to keep pace with market driven change. Mr Yun said: “Business entities cannot survive without innovation as they face numerous changes and uncertainty. SAMSUNG will continue to create solutions that vitalize and enrich your lifestyle. Technology spawns the future; people are key to technology.”

Eric Kim, Executive Vice President of SAMSUNG’s Global Marketing Operations and Digital Solution Center, underlined the company’s determination to remain the world’s leading brand during the product reveal session: “I am convinced that SAMSUNG is the right company, doing the right things, to meet customer needs. Today – and in the future – SAMSUNG’s Digital Convergence vision will deliver the solutions to the way people want to live their lives.”

Wide Range of Products Displayed
The wide range of key products showcased at DigitAll Inspiration 2003 included:

·70-inch Plasma Display Panel (PDP) television - With its large screen and excellent picture quality, SAMSUNG’s 70-inch PDP TV delivers an entirely new viewing experience, offering realistic high definition (HD) imaging even in daytime settings.
·54-inch TFT-LCD television – This television from SAMSUNG features a crisp, high-resolution image and excels in performance with its less than 12ms response time — ensuring a smooth playback of even the most action-packed visual content.
· DVD-HD931 – SAMSUNG unveils the world’s first DVD player to use a digital visual interface (DVI) to deliver an up-converted signal to output high-definition formats (720p/1080i).
· HT-DB760 – SAMSUNG’s 5.1 rear-reflecting channel surround sound system eliminates the hassle of stringing cables around the room for audiophiles and those consumers who like true-to-life sound.
· VC-RP30W - The SAMSUNG cleaner draws a 3-D map of the environment to identify its relative location, enabling faster and more efficient cleaning of a defined area. A less advanced automated vacuum cleaner navigates randomly until it faces an obstacle, blindingly crawling the area. The smarter SAMSUNG cleaner knows which area needs to be cleaned, with a much more efficient result.
· ITCAM-9 - The world’s first Hard Disk Drive (HDD) digital camcorder offers today’s consumers a variety of options to capture their favourite moments – whether on video, audio or image. SAMSUNG’s ITCAM-9 uses a 1.5 GB HDD to store still and motion pictures, as well as music, audio and data files.
· YP-60 Yepp Sports – The first digital music player designed with the active lifestyle in mind. Including a stopwatch as well as a heartbeat monitor that automatically calculates the calories burned during a workout, this light-weight, splash-proof device is ideal for mobile consumers.
· SGH-E700 - The latest dual-band mobile phone from SAMSUNG features an integrated camera and an “intenna” that ensures that the handset easily fits into pockets and purses. This new model updates the best-selling SGH-V200, which was launched at the start of 2003. The SGH-E700 weighs only 88 grams and has 40 polyphonic ring tones. It supports MMS, WAP 2.0 and IrDA. The phone is JAVA enabled, allowing users to experience an enriched multimedia environment.
· X30 Notebook PC - Building upon the success of the first Centrino notebook PC X10, SAMSUNG designed the X30 to meet users’ entertainment needs while taking advantage of Centrino technology’s long battery life and wireless communication capability. The 15.4-inch LCD of X30 features wide aspect ratio in WXGA, or WSXGA+ resolutions. The wide aspect ratio creates more screen space for various tasks, especially for DVD film viewing.
· CLP-500 series - SAMSUNG’s colour laser printer, the CLP-500 series SAMSUNG is designed for small-to-medium-sized business users. As seen with SAMSUNG monochrome laser printers, the colour printer will offer unsurpassed ease of use and latest innovation in technology.
