Cubic Demonstrates Advanced Combat Training Technologies at Major U.S. Defense Exhibition SAN DIEGO, Dec 1, 2003 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Cubic Defense Applications (CDA), the defense segment of San Diego-based Cubic Corporation (AMEX: CUB), debuts new combat training technologies at the Interservice/Industry Training, Simulation and Education Conference (I/ITSEC) in Orlando, Fla. The show runs Dec. 1-4. Cubic`s Simulation Systems Division (SSD), formerly ECC International Corp., will demonstrate its Engagement Skills Trainer, EST 2000, designed to enhance individual marksmanship, collective and judgmental skills. In these simulation scenarios, trainees can take aim at simulated enemy soldiers, civilian attackers, tanks and aircraft in urban, desert, jungle, woodland and mountain terrain -- in snow, rain and smoke, daylight, night and low-light conditions. All actions are recorded for playback with green dots representing misses and red dots showing hits. "EST 2000 reduces windshield time, eliminates environmental issues associated with live-fire ranges, and provides significant ammunition cost savings. Most importantly, though, EST builds trainees` confidence, so when they go to the live-fire range, they maximize their success," said Terry Kohl, vice president and general manager of the Simulation Systems Division. The EST 2000 offers a choice of 209 individual marksmanship, 178 squad tactical and 40 shoot/don`t shoot judgment exercises. Features that differentiate the EST 2000 from other systems are superior accuracy and graphics. EST demonstrations will take place at SSD`s booth #631, situated near the CDA corporate exhibit. "We are very pleased to add SSD`s virtual simulation and training portfolio to Cubic`s live and constructive business. With SSD`s technologies, we now have expertise in all three dimensions of combat training -- live, virtual and constructive," said Gerald Dinkel, president and CEO of Cubic Defense Applications. SSD`s biggest customer is the Army`s Program Executive Office for Simulation, Training and Instrumentation (PEO STRI), a customer Cubic has served for years. PEO STRI is the procurement executive for EST 2000 -- the U.S. Army`s only validated small arms training system. So far, EST 2000 systems have been delivered to both active-duty Army and National Guard units in the United States, Korea, Germany, Kuwait and Afghanistan. In addition to the SSD`s virtual demos, Cubic will showcase its advanced live and constructive training capabilities at its CDA corporate booth (#1312). Major highlights include: LIVE COMBAT TRAINING SYSTEMS * MILES 2000 XG -- Cubic`s next-generation Multiple Integrated Laser Engagement Simulation System provides the most realistic force-on-force, laser-based training available today. The advanced MILES XG provides additional capabilities such as MILES XXI functionality, urban operations tracking and solutions for mines, grenades and M203 grenade launchers. Over the past four years, Cubic has deployed more than 40,000 MILES products worldwide to U.S. Army, Marines, Air Force, National Guard and international forces. * CUBIC`S INITIAL -- HOMESTATION INSTRUMENTATION TRAINING SYSTEM (I-HITS) -- I-HITS is a derivative of Cubic`s Deployable System for Training and Readiness (DSTAR) The U.S. Army`s first deployment of Cubic`s I-HITS will be in the Alaska Training Range arena, where it will be integrated with Cubic`s Air Combat Maneuver Instrumentation system. * P5 COMBAT TRAINING SYSTEM (P5 CTS/TCTS) -- The P5 CTS program, awarded under a 10-year ID/IQ contract valued at $525 million, represents the future of Air Combat Training. The rangeless ACMI system facilitates training among the Navy, Marine Corps and Air Force units and paves the way for joint national training capability in the future. Cubic and its principal subcontractor, DRS Technologies, will provide advanced "rangeless" ACMI technology at 27 sites worldwide. Cubic`s Individual Combat Aircrew Display System (ICADS), a key component of P5 CTS/TCTS, will be demonstrated at the CDA booth. * PRECISION COMBAT TRAINING SYSTEM (PCTS) -- Cubic is providing its new PCTS for the Canadian Army`s Weapons Effects Simulation (WES) system as well as the Spanish Army`s new fleet of Leopard 2E Main Battle Tanks. PCTS, a direct-fire weapons simulation system, is the first system of its kind that supports both precision gunnery and tactical training requirements in realistic, rugged environments. * URBAN OPERATIONS PRODUCTS -- Cubic offers seamless urban operations position tracking capabilities, including GPS outdoors tracking and two indoor tracking solutions. Systems may be configured for any location or application. CONSTRUCTIVE SIMULATION & MISSION SUPPORT The Mission Support Business Unit is a major provider of educational services and computer-based constructive simulation support at U.S. military installations in the United States, Korea, Japan and other nations. Constructive simulations help military commanders practice the decision-making skills they would use in actual warfare. Recent contract awards include: * Warfighter Education Support at Fort Leavenworth -- Cubic provides warfighter education and other support services to the U.S. Army`s Combined Arms Center at Fort Leavenworth, Kan. The U.S. Army Training and Doctrine Command (TRADOC) recently awarded Cubic a new $9.98 million non-personal services contract to provide educational and other support services to the Combined Arms Center (CAC). * Korea Battle Simulation Centers -- Cubic provides training and exercise support services to the Combined Forces Command/U.S. Forces Korea/Eighth U.S. Army, as the prime contractor for the Korea Battle Simulation Centers (KBSC). Cubic provides all support necessary to conduct computer-driven service, joint, and multinational training and battle simulation exercises for U.S. Army, U.S. Air Force, U.S. Navy, U.S. Marine Corps, Republic of Korea, and other allied military personnel from platoon through theater-level. Earlier this year, the U.S. Army awarded CDA a contract for continued support at KBSC. The contract is valued at approximately $65 million over five years. * U.S. Marine Corps Training Support Contract -- Since 1998, Cubic has provided critical support to the Marine Air Ground Task Force (MAGTF) Staff Training Program (MSTP). Earlier this year, Cubic received a new and expanded training support contract with a potential value of $82 million over five years. The new MTSS contract was awarded by the Program Manager for Training Systems (PMTRASYS) in Orlando, Fla. -- an organization within the Marine Corps Systems Command focused on providing training tools and technologies to sustain and enhance the performance of Marines in their warfighting missions. The Cubic Defense Applications group, one of Cubic`s two major segments, provides realistic combat training systems for military forces as well as simulation training, force transformation assistance, educational services, operations & maintenance, and manufacturing services. The group also supplies products and systems for C4ISR (Command, Control, Communications, Computers, Intelligence, Surveillance & Reconnaissance) applications, search and rescue avionics and radio communications for military and civil markets. The corporation`s other major segment, Cubic Transportation Systems, designs and manufactures automatic fare collection systems for public mass transit authorities.
