U.S. payrolls up 112,000; jobless rate falls to 5.6% By Rex Nutting
WASHINGTON (CBS.MW) - U.S. nonfarm payrolls grew by a mild seasonally adjusted 112,000 in January as the unemployment rate slipped to 5.6 percent, the Labor Department estimated Friday. It was the strongest month for payroll growth since December 2000, but it didn`t match expectations of gains of 150,000 or more. Payrolls have grown by 366,000 since August. The unemployment rate is the lowest since January 2002. The average workweek rose by 0.2 hours to 33.7 while total hours worked in the economy increased by 0.8 percent. Average hourly earnings increased 0.1 percent to $15.49. Payroll growth in January was driven by gains in retail and construction, two sectors that typically lay off workers in January.

:confused:Eigentlich sollte es raufgehen, aber die Börse hat ja bekanntlich ihre eigenen Gesetze und ist unberechenbar wie Frauen.:D
