Reforms to be completed by July 20, Indonesia says to IMF
Indonesia has told the IMF that reforms promised in the country`s current letter of intent will be completed by July 20.
The country`s chief economics minister Kwik Kian Gie said this in a letter to International Monetary Fund Deputy Managing Director Stanley Fischer, according to Reuters.

Indonesia had previously said it hoped to sign the letter of intent in mid-July.

The signing of Indonesia`s previous letter of intent was delayed by two months due to the slow pace of economic reform.

Mr Kwik`s letter said Indonesia would shortly adopt a new governing body for the Indonesian Bank Restructuring Agency (IBRA) and establish a committee to handle recalcitrant debtors.

This, it said, would leave four main reforms to be completed by July 20.

These are: finalising and publicising a detailed asset sales and debt restructuring schedule for IBRA; recapitalising Bank Rakyat Indonesia; prosecuting uncooperative bank owners who have been referred to the attorney-general; and specifying sanctions for ministries that have not reported off-budget funds.

In January, Indonesia agreed a new US$5b three-year loan deal with the IMF.

Before each tranche is disbursed, the country must pass an IMF review of its progress in implementing promised reforms, and sign a new letter of intent.

The next US$400m loan tranche is expected in August, if the country agrees its next letter of intent this month.
