AND THE BEAT GOES ON . . . AND ON-The Whispers bring their
soulful tunes to the Liacouras Center to help celebrate more than 30 years of
recording success. The group is featured in a Mother’s Day concert on May 12.
The Whispers’ recording career took off in 1969 with the release of their album Planet of Life.
Some of the group’s early hits included “I Only Meant To Wet My Feet” and “Mother For My Children.”
In 1971, The Whispers became the first artists on the newly formed Soul Train label and immediately
scored hits with “One For The Money” and a soulful cover of the pop group Bread’s classic
“Make It With You.”
In the early 1980s, The Whispers had a major career breakthrough with their first gold single
“And The Beat Goes On,” which became a top-20 pop hit. During that period, The Whispers
collected three gold albums and two platinum
