It was only a matter of time before Big Brother took advantage of this new medium called the internet and made it their own personal voyeur show. Carnivore is the code name for the FBI’s e-mail capturing device that allows the government to read any email, at any time. The FBI is insisting that it is only used under a court order but the ACLU tells a tale that is more like the truth. Barry Steinhardt of the ACLU stated: "Carnivore is roughly equivalent to a wiretap capable of accessing the contents of the conversations of all the phone company`s customers." This is just a sign of what’s ahead as the FBI is working to develop apps to monitor a variety of web traffic. What’s to stop the FBI from reading your email? Not much considering they refuse to make their source code available and no one is monitoring their monitoring of you. Next time you plan to use red as a font, you might want to think twice. And you thought spam was your biggest problem …

Stephen King’s latest “dollar-per-download” horror story isn’t scaring anyone but the accountants. At the last tally only 41,000 copies had been downloaded, this compared to a massive 400,000 copies of "Riding the Bullet" which were downloaded in less than 24 hours and the hysteria crashed many servers. The $1 is collected using an honor system with the viewer having the option of paying now by credit card or typing in their email address and paying later. There’s a ton of mumbling on the net that most wouldn’t feel too bad welching on the dollar. Maybe those horror novels lose their effect when on a computer screen, compared to a warm bed, thick covers and the boogey-man lurking in a dark corner of the room …

Aaron Spelling’s new hit "Titans" is turning into a classic Clash of the Titans. After a short five episode stint the plans are being laid to kill Perry King’s character. This so the show can evolve around Yasmeen Bleeth. This means viewers will get a huge dose of the deep and intricate plots that have made Spelling famous: booty, boobs and boning! Sounds like another Must-See-TV event for every adolescent and lonely housewife in America …

Mickey Mouse has his ears pinned back and is ready to rumble! Disney launched a furious attack on AOL and Time Warner on Tuesday in a filing with the FCC. Disney insisted that together they could lock out competitors from the interactive TV market and undermine First Amendment values unless regulators put some heavy restrictions on their proposed merger. Disney says they don’t want the merger cancelled, just an assurance that the FCC keep the two pieces separate so they can’t totally control content and distribution. In the filing Disney states: "[AOL and Time-Warner] have shown over and over again that they will not hesitate to thwart competition and consumer choice to maximize monopoly profits." Sounds like Disney just erased a bunch of names on a previous court case. For some extracurricular fun, try exchanging all the names with DOJ and Microsoft …

Featured Stock - Spatializer (BB, SPAZ, 72c)

With the market acting the way it is winners in the BB arena are getting harder and harder to find. Every time the big boards look like they are recovering they just get dizzy from the heights and fall back down. The BB pool never had a chance to get any footing and until the big stocks develop some kind of momentum, the BB’s will continue to drift aimlessly. The volume buying is very picky right now and like we said before, the days of throwing a dart and picking winners are long gone. Fortunately there are still some select companies that make attractive plays in the micros. One such company has really developed well over the past year. Their royalties have grown over 200% and the company recently reported it fifth straight profitable quarter. This company has also been very growth-oriented, as witnessed by the constant additions to the line-up of large companies that license their technology. We have featured this one before but the story keeps getting better …

Spatializer (BB, SPAZ, 72c) of Woodlands, CA is fast becoming the premier developer and licensor of next-generation technologies for the consumer electronics, computing and entertainment industries. The company has made great strides developing their advanced audio technology, which is incorporated into consumer electronics audio, video and DVD products by some of the largest brand makers in the world. The company licenses three technologies which are cutting edge and definite market leaders. Plus, the royalties these technologies are beginning to generate is pushing SPAZ to strong profitability that will continue well into the future.

Spatializer 3-D Stereo is a proprietary stereo expansion technology. This technology takes stereo input and turns it into a surround sound effect and uses only two speakers. This is incredible technology that creates the effect of having speakers all around the user. N-2-2 is a multi-channel virtualization technology that enables digital audio playback from two conventional speakers or headphones, instead of the standard 5+ speakers normally required. N-2-2 allows OEMs to provide realistic multi-channel audio in two-speaker computer and consumer electronics devices.

enCOMPASS – This is Spaz’s breakthrough product in computer sound technologies. It delivers a sophisticated, convincing audio to complement advances in multimedia video and graphics, a proprietary 3-D audio positioning technology, enCOMPASS uses HRTFs to precisely localize sounds in expansive three-dimensional (x, y, z) space.

The line-up of companies that use SPAZ’s technologies is a who’s who of consumer electronics makers: Toshiba, JVC, Panasonic, Hitachi, Samsung, Acer, Sharp, Sanyo, Goldstar, Emerson, Zenith and Proton. Their products are also used in PC multimedia systems and peripherals from Apple, Dell, Gateway, Hewlett Packard, Sony, NEC, Micron and Labtec and in silicon with Matsushita, ESS, Zoran, Motorola, Acer Laboratories and OnChip Systems along with software compatible with MP3 players such as WinAmp and XingMP3.

The company recently added DigitalFX series to its family of products. This product is a comprehensive audio enhancement software solution based on the Company`s popular N-2-2 virtual surround sound technology and Vi.B.E, the Company`s virtual bass enhancement tech. They are then combined with additional audio effects tailored for specific product applications. By combining these technologies in a single product targeted for specific product applications, SPAZ provides a highly efficient and cost effective solution for the television, portable MP3, PDA, PC and car audio markets. Digital OntheGoFX is targeted specifically for portable MP3 player devices, including Personal Data Assistants. The portable MP3 player market is expected to grow to 32 million units sold by 2003 and this technology will allow SPAZ to capitalize on that opportunity.

Digital PCFX combines the entire suite of audio technologies into a single, comprehensive and cost effective software audio solution for the Wintel platform. Digital PCFX provides 3-D stereo, N-2-2 virtual surround sound for DVD playback, Vi.B.E virtual bass enhancement and enCompass, SPAZ`s positional audio technology for computer games utilizing the Microsoft DirectX(TM) API.

This family of products and the progress SPAZ has made developing them has made for some solid earnings growth also. Q1 ’00 revenues grew 41% over the comparable period last year. The royalty growth was exceptional as they grew 299% over the comparable period from the previous year. Net income grew from $2000 in Q1 ’99 to a solid $171k in Q1 ’00. The solid growth in income is attributed to the strong revenues and to a reduction in operating expenses. These are all positive signs for a micro-cap. The strong product development and marketing, combined with solid revenue and royalty growth makes SPAZ a necessary addition to any micro portfolio.

SPAZ just re-tested its June low of 65c and seems to be headed higher, holding well even on a negative day like today. The stochastics are improving and two back-to-back days of 600,000 shares this week, much higher than average, indicate an imminent move off the two month base. There is a bit of supply at 90c, going back to April and May, but the next target, once the stock gets moving, is 1.75. We think it will trade there by Thanksgiving.

No compensation was received for this report whatsoever.
