OTI Conducts Field Trials With VeriPass Solution
SANTA CLARA, California., August. 23, 1999
On Track Innovations, Ltd. (OTI), the leading developer in contact and contactless microprocessor based smart card technology, announced today that field trials are being conducted with VeriPass, a solution offered by Hewlett Packard Company`s VeriFone division that incorporates contactless smart card from OTI.
The VeriPass system allows customers to use the proprietary card payment method of their choice programmed onto a small key fob, which can be attached to the customer`s car key ring. The activation of the key fob is done at the retail location, so customers can begin enjoying the benefits of the VeriPass system immediately. The test program is being expanded with additional sites and functionality. The VeriPass system is the only system of its kind that is adaptable to any dispenser that interfaces with the Ruby SuperSystem -- even, potentially, those without card readers.
The field trials are testing ease of use and customer purchase patterns. Ultimately, VeriPass will enable cash values to be stored on the fob, and also will allow gas-station and convenience-store owners to develop loyalty, frequency and coupon programs. More locations are slated for start up during the latter half of 1999.
A VeriPass Customer Interface Unit on the fuel pump allows customers to simply touch their key fob to the face of the unit to begin fueling. The customer fuels, receives a receipt from the pump and then is free to leave. Purchases made inside the store also can be charged directly to the VeriPass system. Customers also enjoy the flexibility of switching to another credit card at any time with the reactivation done quickly at the retail location.
