Moto Gold Project
Overview
The Moto Gold Project is located in the Moto goldfields in the north east of the DRC, some 560 kms north east of the city of Kisangani and 150 kms west of the Ugandan border town of Arua. The Project covers an area of approximately 4,950 sq kms.

The Moto goldfields are located primarily within rocks of the Moto greenstone belt, which consists of Archaean rocks of the Lower Kibalian System. The Moto greenstone belt is bounded to the north by the Archaean West Nile Gneiss complex and to the south by the (younger) Upper Zaire granitic complex.

The Moto greenstone belt has a history of gold production. Three of the deposits in the area, Gorumbwa, Agbarabo and Durba, which were exploited primarily in the 1950s and 1960s by the Belgians, have produced more than 60% of the +3 million ounces of recorded production from the Moto area. Most of the remainder of production has come from placer, alluvial and small oxide-zone workings. Many of the past-producing high-grade gold mines in the Moto greenstone belt fall within a 7km by 5km area near the towns of Doko and Durba. For a project location map refer page 3 of the Moto 2004 Annual Report at Appendix K.

At present the Moto goldfields remain relatively unexplored by today’s standards. Following the departure of the Belgians in the 1960s, the State owned mining company, OKIMO, undertook limited mining activity, and between 1996 and 1998 Barrick and Anglogold completed a limited exploration programme.

To date Moto has identified a number of unexploited deposits and a large number of untested and poorly explained gold occurrences remain to be systematically explored using modern techniques. Moto has to date focused its exploration activities on the central area of approximately 35 sq kms, and has recently commenced a regional programme.

Exploration Completed

Moto commenced its detailed field exploration programme in January 2004, and has completed substantial exploration work since then including:

Sourcing and analysis of the historical exploration (including soil sampling, pitting, drilling and resource analysis) and mining activity, including documentation located in Brussels (Belgian mining interests from 1950s and 1960s), Kinshasa (OKIMO’s mining activities) and North America (Anglo – Barrick joint venture from 1996 to 1998).
Establishment of a field camp in January 2004. There is currently a team of 4 expatriates and approximately 125 local staff working on the extensive exploration programme.
Regional mapping, soil sampling and geophysical analysis.
Commencement of drilling in February 2004. To February 2005, a total of 732 drill holes for 55,035m have been completed by Moto. There are currently two RC rigs and two diamond rigs operating on site. Drilling is completed by Geosearch International, an experienced South African based drilling company.
Sample analysis is completed by SGS Tanzania Superintendence Co. Ltd. in Mwanza, Tanzania. A sample prep lab is currently being prepared on site.
In August 2004, RSG Global Pty. Ltd. completed an independent review of the integrity of Moto’s drilling, sampling and analysis procedures. RSG Global made a number of recommendations, which have been implemented by Moto.
In October 2004, Cube Consulting completed an initial resource estimate covering the Gorumbwa, Pakaka and Kibali deposits of 7.0 million tonnes at 2.7 g/t for a total of 0.6 million ounces of indicated resources and 36.0 million tonnes at 3.2 g/t Au for 3.7 million ounces of inferred resources of gold.
In May 2005, RSG Global completed an initial resource estimate covering the Karagba/Durba, Megi, Mengu Hill and Pamao deposits of 19.5 million tonnes at 2.4 g/t Au for 1.51 million ounces of inferred resources of gold.
Total estimated resources to date are therefore 7.0 million tonnes at 2.7 g/t for a total of 0.6 million ounces of indicated resources and 55.5 million tonnes at 2.9 g/t Au for 5.21 million ounces of inferred resources of gold.
