Microsoft Gunning For Google In Search By Chris Reiter, Of DOW JONES NEWSWIRES REDMOND, Wash. -(Dow Jones)- Microsoft Corp. (MSFT) plans to overtake Google Inc. (GOOG) as the Internet`s premier search engine, Yusuf Mehdi, senior vice president for MSN said Thursday. Speaking at the company`s annual financial analyst meeting, Mehdi said that Microsoft`s search function will serve up answers to user questions rather than links to sites. "We are starting to beat them now in some areas," said Mehdi. "We still have room to catch up, but we are doing that very fast." Microsoft that its search will delve into information that goes beyond the Internet, including higher-end content. Still, Microsoft acknowledges that it`s not as good as Google at the moment, with the relevancy of its searches still trailing Google`s.
