Wednesday, September 06, 2000 MP3 loses lawsuit --2:27 pm - By Chris Kraeuter MP3 (MPPP: news, msgs) lost its lawsuit as a judge ruled that it willfully violated Universal Music Groups copyrights. Tuesday, Universal Music asked a judge to award it $450 million in damages because MP3 infringed its copyrights. MP3 said such an award would put it out of business. The online music-swapping site has settled lawsuits with four other major record labels, leaving Universal as the lone plaintiff. MP3 shares were halted down 69 cents, or 8 percent, to $7.88. |
