• chello`s Swedish subscribers to have exclusive broadband access to Sweden`s biggest TV event
• chello`s broadband network the best way to participate in the world`s most popular interactive TV programme
• 2,400 hours of real-life TV soap from chello

Amsterdam, 31 August, 2000 – chello broadband nv, (chello), one of the world’s leading broadband internet companies, active in Europe, Latin America and Australasia and recipient of the Best European Consumer ISP award, has acquired the exclusive Swedish broadband rights for the hit TV programme `Big Brother`. The show debuts on Sweden`s Kanal 5 on September 3 and on chello`s Swedish subscriber site `chello.se` at the same time - running for 100 days.

Since it first appeared in 1999 in the Netherlands, `Big Brother` has become an international sensation, receiving the highest nightly viewing ratings during the length of its run when local versions of the programme were broadcast in the Netherlands, Spain, Germany and the UK.

`Big Brother` offers viewers unprecedented access into the lives of ten contestants living in a specially-constructed house, in which their every movement is recorded and packaged into a daily half-hour television programme.

Billed as the world`s most popular interactive TV program, viewers of `Big Brother` have the opportunity to vote for which householder should leave the house and therefore the program each week, a process of elimination that eventually decides the overall winner.
chello will offer its subscribers exclusive broadband content from the program, including:

• the ability to see all the TV episodes online
• two 24-hour live camera feeds from the house
• events such as a competition allowing chello visitors to meet Big Brother householders
• on-site voting
• behind-the-scenes news

Roger Lynch, president and CEO of chello broadband, said: “This is yet another example of chello leading the field in offering our subscribers the most exciting and compelling broadband content. With its innovative concept and interactive possibilities, ‘Big Brother’ seems made for broadband internet, and only through chello will viewers get the full experience. And, together with our affiliate, UPC Sweden, chello continues to deliver the most innovative entertainment packages available."

Jon Dissen, director for chello Scandinavia, said: “There is no doubt that ‘Big Brother’ will be the biggest TV sensation in Sweden this year, and chello is thrilled to offer the program to our subscribers as an exciting new dimension in their online entertainment. The opportunities for additional information about the householders, online interaction with them, and the exclusive online archive of all back-episodes of the program will not be available though any other means."

“Following on from the success of the Streaming Media Festival hosted by chello in Sweden in March, this deal confirms our position as the leading broadband interactive company in one of the leading broadband markets in Europe,” said Regina Joseph, vice-president, corporate development/content for chello broadband. “We will continue to be at the forefront of offering our subscribers in Sweden and throughout the world the best and most innovative streaming media.”
