Nokia sees 50 pct of subscriber growth to 2008 in China, Asia-Pacific UPDATE

(updating with info on new phones)

HELSINKI (AFX) - Nokia (Nachrichten/Aktienkurs) said it expects the number of mobile subscribers to rise from just over 2 bln at present to some 3 bln in 2008, with China and the Asia-Pacific region accounting for 50 pct of this growth.

All in all, developing markets will account for around 80 pct of growth in subscribers over the next three years, the handset maker said.

Nokia issued the forecast to coincide with the launch of three new low-cost mobile phones, which will help it tap into this growth.

The Nokia 1112, 2310 and 2610 models, which will cost between 45 and 75 euro, are expected to begin shipping during the second quarter.
