ONdigital claims ‘first TV internet ad’
by Martha McQuay on 17 October 2000 13:18:00 GMT

ONdigital is to run commercials for Orange that will link straight through to the internet in what the digital TV service says is a first in the UK.

The netlink* system means that viewers with the ONnet internet TV facility will be able to click on the Orange ad and bring up the telecoms company’s website while the broadcast picture is retained in the corner of the screen.
The ads will run during ONdigital’s UEFA Champions League coverage from next Tuesday.

ONdigital has also announced its quarterly results, showing that ONnet has recruited 20,000 users since its launch last month, while subscriptions to the main ONdigital service stand at 896,000.

Additionally, ONdigital has signed a deal with Two Way TV to provide puzzles, quizzes and interactive games based on the A Question of Sport, Mastermind, Antiques Roadshow and Crystal Maze TV shows.

MGM’s films will be added to the ONrequest pay-per-view film service, alongside feature films from Universal, Paramount and Fox.
