UPC Selects Motorola`s DVB-Compliant MediaCipher® Conditional Access Technology for All UPC Broadband Systems


HORSHAM, Pa. and AMSTERDAM, Netherlands, Oct. 16 /PRNewswire/ -- Motorola, Inc. Broadband Communications Sector and United Pan-Europe Communications N.V. announced today that UPC has selected Motorola`s DVB-compliant MediaCipher® conditional access system for all UPC broadband systems. MediaCipher will offer UPC proven security and the features and scaling necessary to offer broadcast and interactive services to millions of subscribers across Europe.

UPC will use MediaCipher conditional access for its digital set-top terminals, which it will purchase from Motorola and other suppliers. These advanced interactive set-top terminals will enable UPC to offer a comprehensive range of interactive services to their subscribers, including expanded channel capacity, video-on-demand, virtual channels, high-speed Internet access, e-commerce, and hyperlinking. UPC has just begun the introduction of these set-tops in the Dutch market.
