Affymetrix Breaks Even in 3rd Qtr, Topping Forecasts for a Loss By Karen Fessler Santa Clara, California, Oct. 24 (Bloomberg) -- Affymetrix Inc. said it broke even in the third quarter, beating analysts` forecasts for a loss, as it sold more of its GeneChips genetic- research tools. Affymetrix earned $295,000, or break-even per share, compared with a loss of $5.8 million, or 11 cents after the payment of preferred dividends, a year earlier. The Santa Clara, California-based company`s products are increasingly in demand as companies race to use data gathered from the recent mapping of the human genome to develop gene-based drugs. The earnings were released after the close of U.S. markets. In after-hours trading, the stock rose as high as $59.38 after falling $3.06 to $52.31. |
